Title: The one that got away?
Post by: bReTt on November 06, 2017, 04:27:10 PM
Hello airgunners!

I have been in this airgun shooting hobby for 10 years now.  It started out with a Gamo BigCat 1200 and soon I jumped up to a R9.  Over that time my tastes have remained pretty simple but quality and accuracy were important to me.  I have collected some nice HW spring guns, 3 pcps and a few others along the way.  It’s a modest collection compared to many here but it’s more than I really “need”.  I am a backyard plinker/enthusiast that enjoys slinging lead in my own backyard.

Recently I have found that my airgun interest is turning towards the low powered, 10m type guns.  I have a nice FWB300S but the side cocking and the horrible mechanical clunk of the shot leaves me wanting some thing more.  I am looking at the pcp 10m guns or even a ssp.

So now, I want a new 10m pcp rifle and that has me up against a tough spot.  I can’t justify another airgun.  Especially one that would be from a few hundred dollars to possibly close to $3000 depending on what I really decide that I want.  Most likely it will be $1000 or right around there.

So what I’m getting at is, I am going to start thinning the herd for the funds AND to pass on some nice things that I just don’t get to shoot much anymore.  There are a few guns that I grab when heading out to shoot and the others collect dust.  I try to rotate through them but still, there are those few that I gravitate to.

Here is my question to you...

What is that one, or two, airguns that got away but wish that hadn’t?

This is kind of like that “only one” question but a little different.

Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to hear about that “one that got away!”

Sorry, I can't help you, Brett. I rarely ever sell my toys, and I've yet to sell any of my airguns.  I guess I'm a toy hoarder

Only one I can say I miss alot is my .22 Taipan Veteran Shorty. Quiet, accurate and compact. However bullpups just aren't as appealing to me as they were so that's why I got rid of it. Do I miss others? At times but never to the point of wishing I had them back just due to liking to try different things

I have never parted with an airgun I wished I hadn't.  I have yet to miss a deal on a used one I really wanted either.  I've been fortunate so far.

I had an old style BSA Lightning in .177 with a perfect tune. Sweet shooting, 13 ft-lbs,  and crazy accurate.  I let it go because the big can on the end was against NY hunting regulations.
I also miss my transition Streak converted to ACP, a .22 R1 lefty, a .22 Lightning XL, and a .22 Pro Elite with a lefty thumbhole stock. But that old .177 Lightning fit me the best of any gun ever.

My first airgun, a crosman powermaster 66 that My dad bought it for me at age 7.
I shot the heck out of it for years without oiling it, then in the summer of 2011 I learned airguns needed to be oiled and sprayed some stuff in it which instantly killed the pump cup.
I didn't know that was all it was or even think about repairing it and basically junked it.

It was a plastic receiver gun and had the black stocks / w gold spacers which I'd  never chose, but it was my first gun and there's no reason for me not to still have it today.

An Air Arms MPR-FT.
I'd never get rid of my 300s. Mine is the clunkless version and it cocks like a Swiss watch winds.

I have sold a few of the springers that I bought before I understood air guns that I’ve never thought about again. Nothing special about them and easy to forget. I did however make a trade with a fellow member at the fun shoot this year for a gun I had been looking at and really wanted to try. I had my gamo coyote .177 with me among others. I didn’t really want to get rid of anything but thought the coyote would be fine since I have a few others that are similar. We made the trade with a stipulation of having first shot at the rifle if one of us decided to sell what we had traded for down the road. We exchanged contact info and guns and went home. Within a couple of weeks I had emailed asking if he was ready to sell it back. I really missed it. He responded no and that he was really enjoying it. Made me want it more but I was also willing to wait and not press the issue so I didn’t aggravate him and cause the rifle to be forever someone else’s. Luck would have it that he had a change of heart very soon after. He contacted me and asked if I still wanted it. I instantly responded yes and asked where to send the money. He said he was leaving for vacation and coming right by my hometown and would hand deliver it and take the cash. Perfect! A few days later I had my beloved super accurate coyote back. I learned a very valuable lesson in this experience. I’m not a seller and the toys I buy are off the market forever. I put a lot of time and research into my purchases and buy what I think will fit my wants. I’m willing to let anyone shoot my rifles but they have to go home with me. If I don’t sell any I’ll never miss any haha!

What you wrote towards the end there are my thoughts and feelings exactly....  guess I’ll be saving my money and NOT selling anymore!  Ha ha ha!

I regret selling a nice QB57 that I had learned how to shoot real well. Would like to still have a Cr M1 woody I passed on and a beautiful Cr 150 chrome Medalist....in it's box. There are more. Thing is, I have to let some go because I keep buying more and I have no intention of stopping. I love playing with something new/new to me and the ones I've grown a little tired of have to make room.  :-\

never had regrets selling a gun, but had lots of regrets no buying a gun, to many times great deals on great guns came up and I didn't buy them, either didn't have the money or was talked out of it, my advise to everyone is "if you want it, Buy it", No regrets.......

Miss my Diana 52 i had back in the 80´s, it was in 22 and very very accurate and was gorgeus, sold it to fund a bsa in 25 cal, wich i only fired maybe a hundred shots cause my family moved and i had to sell it... OP, if you want a cheap accurate pcp for 10 meters, look att air arms s200/CZ s200, very accurate, well built and not to expensive!

I have a nice FWB300S but the side cocking and the horrible mechanical clunk of the shot leaves me wanting some thing more.

No story from me, but I wouldn't have thought a FWB300S could "clunk" unless it was needing some work. Are you sure you don't want to have someone look into that?

Well, maybe I should have it looked at.  It seems that a few folks are saying that it shouldn’t make a noise.  It’s shooting healthy at around 610 and one hole accuracy but it does “clunk” when it shoots.  It is a mechanical action that generates the power to move the pellet so it has to make some sort of noise.  Maybe my description is throwing people off.  All I know is the the sound that it does make isn’t a beautiful sound.  Ha ha ha!

My 1970`s Blue Streak. I sold it after I got my drivers license and a .22 rimfire. My thought at the time was I`ll never use it again, I can go where I want and shoot my .22. Took me a few years before I realized I had made a mistake, been sorry ever since. It doesn't keep me up at night but I do wish I had it now. At the same time, if I had kept it I may never have searched out the other air guns I have now and love so much.
