Title: Is ballistol safe for anodized alum.?
Post by: Tweeter on October 27, 2017, 11:05:44 AM
Wondering if ballistol is safe to use on anodized aluminum, in particular, my Matador?  Does anodizing even need a coat of oil?

anodized aluminum doesn't need oilede down, the anodizing is to prevent corrosion, some types of anodizing add surface strength also. however i wouldn't worryif you get balistol on the anodizing. different types of aluminum have different resistance to corrosion , and there are different types of anodizing as well. i wouldn't worry aboutit cuz i have had balistol on some anodizing without any problems...buti truly can't speak to every combo of aluminum and anodizing.but i seriously doubt it would hurt any of them.

Ballistol will not harm anodized any more than it will harm plain aluminum.  Anodized aluminum is plain aluminum color.  It is then dyed different colors.  The Ballistol should not remove the dye, either.  Try it in an inconspicuous place to be sure.

Ballistol will definitely not harm anodized aluminum. They recommend it's use on sliding doors & windows, which are made of aluminum. Plain & anodized. The stuff works on a lot of things, from firearms to wood & leather goods.

Heck, you can gargle with the stuff if you want to!   :P
It is one of the gentlest gun care products out there.

I would worry more about the harmful UV rays from the sun than the Ballistol.

Now someone's going to re-bottle it and sell it as licorice flavored mouthwash.   ;D  Or dirty foot mouthwash.  They'll call it "Dirty foot in mouth-wash"   8)

They clearly state “Harmful or fatal if swallowed”. So don’t swallow.
Can’t believe I actually typed that.

If I'm not mistaken, it's vegetable based. I have some but don't use it because it stinks! I use light military weapons oil from WW2.

I wiped down the matador with a bit of ballistol.   At the very least it looks nice now, very shiny.  I don't think it will hurt anything.  I used to think ballistol smelled horrible but I've gotten used to it now so I can stand it.
