After spending a few weeks looking for another lightweight rifle to add to the collection, I decided to take a chance with the relatively new P15. I ordered it from Mike at MrodAir and almost immediately got a tracking number. Two days later it showed up on the door step. The first impression was awesome, it is extremely compact and light, I also lucked out and good a good looking piece of wood as well.
I gave the rifle a good visual inspection and noted that the breach end chamfer in the barrel looked terrible. The cutter chattered and made a mess that probably wouldn’t make any functional difference, but I just had to pull the barrel and fix the chamfer. The barrel is very easy to remove, and after about 20 minutes I had the breach chamfer fixed and I also polished up the muzzle Crown with my trusty variable speed Dremel tool and a Cratex point. I cleaned the bore thoroughly, and reinstalled the barrel as well as the suppressor shroud, baffles and scope rail. I removed the Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 AO IR scope with BKL standard rings from my Varmint/SPA900W and installed it on the P15.
I zeroed the rifle at 25 yards with Crosman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 grain pellets. The trigger is very nice, if a bit heavy as set out of the box. The sound level initially sounded a bit loud to me, then a friend shot the rifle and I realized that the suppressor is working just fine, and is back yard friendly, but there is definitely lots of mechanical noise transmitted through the breach block to the shooters ear making the rifle seem much louder that it really is. The action lever felt very stiff and rough at first. Some gun oil immediately made a noticeable difference, and the action smoothed up way more than I would ever have suspected after about a hundred rounds. Initial groups were between 3/8”and 1/2” shooting off of a crappy/wobbly folding table.
This afternoon I took the P15 out again and shot it off of my shooting table and across the chronograph. From a 250bar fill I got 54 shots on the regulator with an average velocity of 987 FPS, an extreme velocity spread of 10 FPS! and a standard deviation of only 2.9 FPS! I would definitely say the regulator is working well.
Shooting for accuracy from the bench is a bit difficult to do with the P15 off of the bags I have due to the extreme short length, light weight and the shape of the bottom of the stock where it rests on the bench/bags. Today I was able to shoot 6 nine shot groups at 25 yards that averaged @3/8”, this was a significant amount of visible rifle movement as viewed the scope. With some proper v shaped bags, or a gun vise, there is no doubt I could shoot virtually one hole groups from this distance.
So far I am extremely happy with the P15! This rifle is definitely going to be competing with my .25 Impact for walking through the woods carry duty.

Great review, thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks for the heads up on the p15. By any chance are you able to post pic of the p15 would love to see the stock that you posted about.
-
I'm really sold on the SPA products, I've got the Airmax Dominator and just love it.
-
I will try and attach a picture of the rifle. The stock I received has a nice grain pattern that is not as straight or “plain” as some cuts of beech wood, but it this nowhere near as pretty as a nice piece of walnut. I do like the color of the stain on this stock. My Varmint/PR900W stock had a stain color that looked like diarrhea ;D. I sanded that stock down last weekend and it is waiting for me to finish it it multiple coats of Tung oil.
-
54 shots at 32 fpe, 250- ? bar
-
The shot string I recorded yesterday started with a fill of 250 Bar per the gauge on my Joe Brancato guage. The first shot was 931 FPS, and the second shot was 990 FPS and then only varied by 10 FPS until it dropped off of the regulator. My total shot count on the regulator was 54 shots. I didn’t check the pressure gauge until five shots after the rifle came off the regulator, and it indicated 125 bar.

Glad you enjoy your P15 enough to want to post your experience with her.
I truly like my 25 cal, except she was born with a bad barrel :( BUT there is a light shining in the future
, as Roy at Mountain Air Custom Airgun has agreed to machine a new LW barrel 15mm od 23.75 in long. ;D I have a friend with his own lathe( he is an excellent machinist, but Harleys not rifles) who is going to cut threads on the muzzle for a Sumo.It should be delivered to me in 3 weeks as Roy is quite busy. Roy is the gentleman Dairyboy used for his 20 cal Mrod. 8)
I also went after the stock with a sander drum on my Dremel , so the pistol grip fits my hand and removed 30% of the brace where my wrist kept hitting it.
I hope to figure out the photo posting process by the time I get this rifle back together, so I can post photos of the New mods and accuracy results. For me accuracy and fit are way more important than ... OK , I want her to be a good looker to :o

Had a bad barrel on my p15. I bought a marauder .25 barrel. contacted vash545 to see if he would take on the project. Got a yes and send when ready. Got it back tue. Shoots hole in hole at 20 yards. Not a cloverleaf not two shots touching one a quarter inch away nonsense. Also opened the exhaust tract up to 5.5 still not seeing 900 fps @130b lol.
-
Wow you did well with your barrel replacement. Those are great barrels.
We can up the reg for more velocity but I have a gut feeling that a larger plenum be needed to achieve optimum results.
I was getting about 850 fps with 25 gr JSB. Did you use the factory barrel length, or make it longer ?
-
Jarmstrong wow 850 with 25s not bad at all. Naw the marauder barrel was cut down a bit. 18 3/4" is what it is now. Pretty sure the plenum is to small for faster velocities. They should have used a dominator air tube.
-
I've had my p15 in 25 cal for about a month now. I ordered a baffle kit from air-fective (not cheap) also installed a 5" ldc to keep it super back yard friendly. It shots 25gr jsb at 820 fps fairly accurate at 30 yards 1/2 " groups . I have taken 2 possum 5 squirrel a few rats and 1 coon.really like the way it handle. Just need to adjust the trigger a little. Also had to loctited the pin on the side lever, hadn't moved since
.

MikeH is the .22 barrel choked?
-
MikeH is the .22 barrel choked?
Good question....I didn’t push a pelllet down the bore to check.
Shot the P15 a bunch today. Almost 500 pellets through it now and the action is very nice and smooth, I would have never believed it would smooth up so nice without disassembly and polishing work, but I am satisfied as is for now. I still have not adjusted the trigger, but it has smoothed up quite a bit as well and probably reduced its pull by almost a half pound just from usage. I took three squirrels today, one at 30 yards and two that were chasing each other around a large pine tree at @ 40 yards. Am absolutely loving this little rifle, but it definitely takes good fundamentals to shoot accurately due to the short length and super light weight.
-
Picture of my .22 P15....hopefully.

I misspoke, :-X I only was getting 820 fps with JSB 25 gr and 720 with 33 gr ::)
18-3/4" should be about 1" longer than factory. does this make your shroud extend an inch more also? That would be a good thing to help keep your finger from getting in front of the muzzle. OUCH :'( . Its has been reported to happen with short bullpups
Mike ,she is lookin good ;)
-
The image resolution does not do the grain pattern, or the stain color Justice.
-
Jarmstrong I took off the shroud. Vash545 turned 1/2x20 threads and recrowned the marauder barrel. I'm using a weilrauch .25 ldc on my p15. Very Nice looking p15 MikeH!

I was curious how your P15 would look with a ldc. That Weihrauch is a good match, it looks really good together! Also, I am impressed with the machining and build quality that SPA is putting out (except for the barrels do need revamping). IMHO, SPA is putting out a way better product than Kral does for the same coin.
-
That is the same moderator that came on my HW110 I bet she is very quiet ;D
HOW did you know that I am thinking (black rubberized coating)? ??? Weihrauch does a super job on their coating, wish I could find something that comes close to it. What product did you use and how do you like it?
7mm wrench for opening the moderator , found mine at Menards with the socket type hex wrench ;)
-
Hey Vash545 great to hear from you. She sweet looking and shooting like a laser! Have to agree SPA is upping their game. Lol just need to work on barrels and spare part access.
Jarmstrong it's dupli-color truck bed coating, black texture finish. Yep the ldc much quieter then the shroud for sure lol.

I have been looking for awhile to someone to make me a barrel for the P-15 and I just found Roy ,a week ago , NOW a second barrel guy appears, Wow. I bet you get more inquiries now as the barrel problems are coming to the surface. Gotta love this forum
-
You guys are making me itching to get more guns. I already have PP700 0.22 and Hatsan AT44 0.25, I thought the only thing I need would be a big bore for deer. But if you guys keep preaching I may fall into that rabbit hole again.

Mike's rifle looks great, sounds like he is more than pleased with the barrel you machined for him. Are you listed in the GTA MALL , or how does a gun owner in need find your services?

In my opinion I think P15 owners should check that the factory baffles and shroud are installed correctly to ensure the stock suppressor is working as designed before considering ditching the factory unit. The factory suppressor will not function unless the aft most baffle is being held firmly in the "air stripper" that is threaded onto the end of the barrel.
I discovered this when I first inspected my rifle and found the breach chamfer was chattered, and decided to remove the barrel/shroud/baffles to fix the barrel. Prior to removing the barrel and performing the polishing/deburring work, my rifle was very loud when dry fired inside, it sounded like an open muzzle with no suppression what so ever. When I was reinstalling the barrel I noticed that the air stripper relied on the convex portion of the rear most baffle to seal the aft chamber, and force most of the muzzle blast into the rear expansion chamber. When I reassembled my suppressor I left the rear cap set screw loose and stacked the baffles in, making sure the aft most baffle was seated squarely in the air stripper. Next I installed the remaining baffles and the forward end cap. Then I slid the entire suppressor assembly aft to slightly compress/hold the baffles in place prior to tightening the rear end cap set screw. When I dry fired it after reassembly there was a huge reduction in muzzle blast noise, even inside the garage. The rifle still sounded loud to me when I shot it to zero the rifle, but when a friend shot it realized that a lot of the noise I was hearing was being transmitted through the breach block and my face. My P15 is still not "mouse fart quiet" but it is very acceptable in my opinion. I think the aftermarket set of baffles sold by Air-Fective would be a huge step forward, but I am not willing to pay $40 plus US Dollars for shipping.

If you are getting a ton of air blown in your face, the barrel orings that seal the barrel to the breach aren't sealing correctly. I would take the barrel off and inspect the orings for damage and make sure they fit the breech bore snugly (hopefully they didn't cut the o ring grooves too deep!). Also, a little silicone on the o rings really makes a difference.
-
No air in the face. Just stating that the factory suppressor will not function correctly if the rear most baffle is not seated in the air stripper. It would be obvious if I had taken pictures.....but I not so good.
-
Mine is far from mouse fart. I get 102dBA at 6ft. My quietest air rifle 97dBa at 3ft.

Try checking the installation of the baffles and shroud as per my previous post to see if it makes any improvement.

Got a marauder barrel with 1/2x20. Old shroud won't work end piece is m12x1.25

LW barrel is coming home, only to be sent off to LeeAirPro to get muzzle threaded and blued, DonnyFl sumo ordered and I still have to bore a hole in the handle. Going to insert a 1/2 steel tube and epoxy it in the handle. Then remove the brace to the butt. Then paint dark olive. I would post photos BUT the dummy in me can not figure out how to, and I have been trying . The instructional posts have not helped me get past my lack of knowledge.I need a personal tutor in the flesh sit sit with me and guide my dumb butt through the process ::)
Lee and you did a nice job with your P-15 8) lookin good
-
So you going with 23 1/2" barrel or 22 1/2"?
-
23-3/4, it will stick out pass the air tube enough for the Sumo to screw on and still open the air fill port

Hey guys I don't own a p15 but I have owned various spa guns and been fairly happy I read up on this thread about the gun not being able to hit 900fps due to a smaller plenum than needed to due so now I had a thought it looks like the regulator is the same unit as in the p10 which has a plenum which threads into the valve couldn't that be used to "stack" the plenums before regulator and in theory give you the space needed for 900+ fps if I remember correctly it was something like 10 bucks from spa and another foreign source I'm not sure if this will work or be of any value but hopefully it may lead you in a useable direction as I am also looking into a p15 in .25 with a barrel swap to hit 900+fps and that was what I was going to look into after getting the gun
Good luck and I'll be checking if there are any updates and added thoughts about the rifle
-
Looking at the p15 and p10 diagrams it looks like the plenum for the p10 (part number 24) should fit on the end of the p15 valve and plenum and screw the reg onto that doubling the useable regged air again I don't have a p15 but i believe they share tube sizes if I remember reading that correctly somewhere so should work out in theory anyway
Good luck
-
27 mm air tube on the p15.
-
the plenum volume is 15 cc on my P-15. Need more volume
-
Ok more volume hmmmmm, the dominator has a bigger tank. So wonder how easy resizing the barrel bands might be. Should be a piece of cake to make a adapter to fit it to the breech.
-
I'm thinking plenum volume for more energy. I have an extra plenum that I am looking at getting machined so I can double the plenum size
-
I'm fine with mine shooting 800 my shooting distances only 20 yrds. Very limited. Here's a shot of where most squirrel meet with a fatal fall from the pecan tree.
-
Hey Miksatx, I know you have a tack driver at 20 yd, 8) but how does it do at 40 or 50 yd with that Green mountain barrel? ???
-

I wish I could tell you jarmstrong. as of now no place to go close to shoot that far. i guess I could get hold monkeysdad1969 send it to him for a prairie dog hunt.
I would imagine it shoots similar to short tube marauder .25.
-
I'm sure it shoots great, just wanted to let you brag a bit ;D
I thought with that forest in your photo, that you might have room to open her up a bit. But like my boss used to say,( don't be thinking when you're not equipped to do so) ::)
-
I still haven’t shot my .22 P-15 much at long distances, or even tried more than one pellet, but it put two more squirrels in the freezer yesterday. Took a friend squirrel hunting for his first time today. He didn’t grow up in the woods hunting like I did. He wanted to carry the P15 since he has shot it quite a bit in the last week, I took my .25 Impact. We only saw two squirrels because of the wind and cold front moving in, but one was taken with the FX.
Still need to adjust the trigger pull weight on my P-15 and try some more pellets to see which it prefers, but I’m very happy with it so far. I did order a bunch of spare parts from Julie at SPA, and I have extra sear parts in that order that I can regrind and polish. With the days getting shorter it may take me a while to get I fully tuned up, but when I do I will report in.
-
I've had my p15 in 25 cal for about a month now. Also had to loctited the pin on the side lever, hadn't moved since
.
Would you know the stock db level on this bullpup? I'm hearing mixed opinions on how backyard friendly this actually is ? Thanks
-
Its not backyard friendly. you have to modify the baffels in the shroud. thats the only thing what did the chinese wrong on this gun.
there are adapters available for 1/2"unf threat to add a additional silencer / ldc if necessary.
-
Mr rifle in .22 IS back yard friendly, but only when the baffles are seated correctly against the air stripper. I think I discussed this in more detail in an earlier post.
Still very much enjoying the rifle. Have not had time to tune on the trigger yet. Accuracy and shot count are great and it has taken many squirrels.
-
Thanks for the replies. I have a .22 on the way . .22 was out of stock. .25 instead !!

-
Does the P15 use the same shroud and end cap specs as the p10 and p12 ?
-
The air max Dominator ldc end cap is the same as the p15 end cap. I notice that the end cap on the dominator has a oring between the baffles and end cap. No such oring is in place on my old p15 shroud and end cap.

I appreciate the response but that wasn't my question.

I didn't quote you either.

I got the ldc from shanan5s@ yahoo .net on the AA classifieds he sells them for a kinds of air guns. Only has 2 chambers with some kind of hair roller insert but it works

Probably just need to remove the spaces I'd think after @ and yahoo

Who has any of the P15s in stock? I saw that Krale did on their website but not sure how that would go. I've never ordered anything from them before. They did however show the .25 cal in stock so can anyone that has ordered from them before give any advice?
Thanks
-
I have purchased from them twice before, e-mail them a photo of your ID (drivers license)
There is a import duty that UPS billed me
Other than those two things, it is easy, seems like 1 week delivery time

I reached him. Thanks

Yup. I bought mine from them last week.
-
Congrats! Looks like a great gun!
-
I'm very impressed with the build quality. The wood stock really is beautiful. Trigger feels real light like maybe 2.5 lbs. ? Haven't had a chance to ring her out tho. The weather around here has been in the single digits since last week.
-
I know what you mean about weather, it's been a deep freeze here

Wow you did well with your barrel replacement. Those are great barrels.
We can up the reg for more velocity but I have a gut feeling that a larger plenum be needed to achieve optimum results.
I was getting about 850 fps with 25 gr JSB. Did you use the factory barrel length, or make it longer ?
Does someone offer a 30cc plenum for this p15 in .25 caliber? Can it just be enlarged to 30cc? I'm just kind of curious about what's involved. I realize that the transfer port would have to be enlarged to 5.5 mm as well. Thanks
-
I would contact these guys, from reading on the forum they sell HUMA regs, and sometimes can make up spacers/ plenums, it would be a straight spacer between a Huna Reg for the Pi15 and the VAlve...If you have any luck let me know, as I may need one...

Thanks Mike
-
I plan on getting a P15 and M22 for myself when we put in the initial order , I think the P15 has a lot going for it and I plan on seeing what I can extract from it. I really like the Black bedliner look thats my style.
-
whats the price on those p15 ? and m22 ?
I also like the look of both of those that p15 is even shorter then what they call the p10 shorty and weighs a lot less to .
-
Hi Travis,
I have been dealing with SPA for some time on doing some custom guns and distribution, I am not US based so not in your market :) ...The P15 has in my opinion three derivatives that I would explore:
1).P15 .25 Extra Plenum Volume 30 mm, Huma Reg, 5.5 mm Transfer Port, Custom Shroud inserts Similar to AirFective Tuning UK and a 1/2 Unf Adaptor that fits on the shroud (AirFective Tuning makes them) Design it to shoot JSB 25 and 34 Grain and Slugs...
2).P15 .22 Slight increase in plenum volume maybe a 15mm spacer, Huma Reg, Custom Shroud inserts Similar to AirFective Tuning UK and a 1/2 Unf Adaptor that fits on the shroud - Designed to shoot JSB 25 Grain and Nielsson Slugs 23 Grain and 28 Grain Boat tails...(This would be an awesome hunter).
3).P15 .177 -Play with lighter hammer spring, Reduce the TP Size to 80% of caliber (as I believe all stock P15 TP's are 4.5 mm ) Huma Reg, Custom Shroud inserts Similar to AirFective Tuning UK and a 1/2 Unf Adaptor that fits on the shroud - This would be an awesome plinker and give you a good shot count.
The only other things I would do:
1). change the connectors (Firing Housing Pins) that join the trigger to rod and trigger mechanism, perhaps use high end RC bearings / Connectors.
2). Design a semi / Bullpup /Carbine Stock - Similar to the Kalibergun Mini .22
3). Add a Bolt Pin Sleeve to the cocking arm - similar to the M16 Cocking Arm...
I believe you could generate a very good following for these awesome light guns...
My 10 cents :)
