Title: Airforce Talon barrel question- sort of
Post by: YEMX on October 17, 2017, 02:33:49 PM
I would like to start off with this- Mods:  If this is deemed inappropriate, please delete.  It's not my intention to break any rules (specifically rule 12), but if I inadvertently do, I apologize.

Now, I had a weird idea and I haven't seen it discussed here.  I have seen instances where a barrel of a powder burner has been ported with an integral suppressor.  Has anyone heard of this for airguns?  Has anyone done this?  I don't want to discuss anything else with regards to an LDC or building an LDC- I just want to discuss porting a barrel.  Mainly:

-Will it affect accuracy if a barrel is ported and deburred on the inside?
-How would one go about deburring the inside of a rifled barrel?  A flex hone or something?  JB bore paste?
-How big should the ports be?  Spiral ports, staggered ports?

Again, I don't want to discuss anything else with regard to making an LDC.  I only want to discuss points about a ported barrel.

With a bullet firing AG, I will likely work, but unlike PB's the projectiles would be lead, not jacketed. Therefore, there will be some lead removed as the bullets pass the porting. Even if well polished.

With Pellets, the skirts would try to blow out as they pass the ports, and cause serious accuracy problems.

Even with Jacketed bullets in PB's there is still some shaving. I have lost several Florescent bulbs from just this very shaving. LOL!!!

Trying to remember the name of the porting I was trying. (Schuman compensating system)?  Same principal. Different application.

This is probably why this method isn't used!   ;D ;D

Well... back to the drawing board I suppose!!

Another Idea:

If I can get another microlite kit from tagdagger (I know you know of him from TAG knife!!), I'm debating on building a .30 TalonP with a 16" barrel...

What are people's thoughts on a 16" barreled .30?  I'm not looking for HUGE power, but I'm thinking a .30 is a hair better than .25.  More surface area to really PUNCH the target and MAYBE less over penetration to make it safer for inside a neighborhood.  Might buck the wind better than the .25 maybe?  I would also like to be able to make it quiet with say... a Ronin from Donny- 6.5" long, at 2" OD...  since I'd be losing any internal volume in the frame because of the longer barrel.   Might be a pipe dream...

Sounds like a good project! 8)

Really like Donny's LDC's. Sure wish they were a little less costly.  ;)

Me too!!!

There's something I want to try, but I'll have to go over to the TAG to talk about it...  Maybe I'll see you there.  I'm "Caboose212" over there.

I hope I'll get some more input about the short .30 barrel here though.

I still remember TadDaggers arrow shooting AF guns. Years before FX or anyone else. Shame he doesn't build the kits any longer.
There is a tremendous amount of info on the AF Platform over there. AS valid today, as  several years ago.

AirForce learned so much from going there, while at the same time, officially putting down ANYONE who improved their AirForce AG performance. BB Pellitier was the worst at AF at this. Giving advice, when in truth, he didn't understand PCP's at all back then.

Still remember him returning guns that were not right to the customers, saying there was Nothing Wrong with them. When ask what velocity he got at a given setting, he would only say,"I Don't use a ChronoGraph. I tell how fast a gun is shooting by hearing it. Uh-Huh. Right BB!

Man, he could screw up some guns.  Caused a LOT of bad customer relations, and lost sales. Especially repeat sales. They got smart, and he left. Sadly,he is now at Pyramyd Air.

Oh, I remember as well...  SMH I will never understand why many manufacturers don't just listen to the customers on these forums and at least discuss the ideas at board meetings or something.  The AF platform could be soooo much better, if AF would have listened to Dyotat100, or Roachcreek, Walkonking, or Tagdagger and a myriad other people over there!  It's frustrating, to say the least.

I'm starting to disassemble my "Big .30" now, and deciding what I will sell and what I'll keep...  Luckily, it's not a very big list of items I'll be letting go!  I can re-use practically everything!  I will have to modify the frame, as I don't want to buy a new one.
