Title: Had to Mod the Airmax Dominator today
Post by: smythsg on October 17, 2017, 01:18:34 AM
I decided to open up the Dominator and start adjusting the regulator, but needed to see at what pressure it was falling off the regulator first. After pumping to about half full I started shooting over the chrony and after 8 shots the Dominator bolt pin, which I had secured with blue locktite, fell out in the grass, never to be seen again. I expected that might eventually happen so had already made the trip to Harbor Freight for a box of roll pins. The 1/8 x 5/8 pin was the closest size to what I needed, but I had to enlarge the hole slighly in the pulling plate so the roll pin could be used. Once the pin was fully inserted, no small feat in itself, I had to cut the top part of the pin off with a micro file, and use the flat side of the file to smooth the top and bottom edges of the pin flush with the bolt as there is very little clearence for the bolt to go back into the breech.

Hopefully this little mod will solve the bolt pin issue for good. For those Dominator owners that used blue loctite to hold the pin, it didn't last long on my gun.

Now back to the testing tomorrow to see where the regulator is set, and make some adjustments to get to about 900 fps with 25.4 gn JSB for about 45 ft lbs. If all works out the Dominator will become a fabulous Carbine, perfect for my style of hunting.   :D
