Soon in the very near future my replacement Prosport will be in my hands. My question is:
Should I just shoot it as it comes (and hopefully get a fitted guide) or get it down in the 12-13ft/lb area?
-
Get the rifle to the 11-12 fpe range and enjoy. It will behave much better. Spring rifles and power do not mix well.
-
If you plan to get a fitted guide you may as well get it fitted to the lower powered spring. You could even go whole hog and get a fitted tophat at the same time.
Of course you could shoot your gun as is to see how you like it while waiting for your goodies to arrive. Who knows? It may shoot so well as received you don't want to do anything else.

I say shoot it as it comes. If the results are not what you want, then do something.

I'm learning towards it.

Benji and Roadworthy, good advice. Thanks

After a lot of experimentation, I much prefer my springers in the 12fpe ballpark. For FT or hunting, that is plenty of power out to 40 yards.

You're right but the only hang up I have is that nagging question in the back of my head saying...will I need that extra 3-4for? Probably not.

Heck, I don't even hit 10 FPE in my Slavia. But it doesn't stop squirrels and sparrows from dying. They still think it is wayyy more.
Look at it this way: shoot it as it comes. If it ain't smooth enough, drop the power. You can own other guns, too. Like a Hatsan 95QE Vortek in .25. The squirrels in my neighborhood don't like that airgun either.

If the gun shoots great, who cares about the FPE?
Like I said in another thread, my 97K .20 is a 16-17 FPE gun, and I don't think it can shoot any better at 12FPE.
Don't focus so much about the FPE. If it shoots great, just shoot it.

Yes as said before, shoot ot and see how she feels, if itīs great itīs great, if not, take her down in speed, casue these guns are not your average hatsan/gamo 2000 fps gun, these are supposed to feel like a hug from your nice mom, not like a hit on the shoulder from your mate!

AG72 & Benji, thanks for the advice. I think you guys are right.

My TX 200 Hunter Carbine in .177 has only 20 or so shots through it. It is FAC 16/17 ftlbs and is much Wilder than the .22 FAC TX it replaced. It feels snappier even with 10 grain heavy pellets. Now to the point, I recently bought a 12 ftlbs Crosman Optimus in .177.. I lightly greased the spring and oiled all the hinges with a drop of Ballistol and loctite blue on all the stock screws. Result ? A very nice mild shooting 12 ftlbs Springer which is great for plinking in the yard and dispatching pest birds at home..cost? $100 a bit of grease and loctite. Quite suprising, you don't need to spend a thousand bucks to get a nice shooting all round Airgun.
