I visited Boyds Stocks website, looking for a wooden stock to replace the synthetic stock on my Gen II Marauder. They had a special section for closeout specials. It is called their "rapid fire" specials.
I saw a "pepper" colored thumbhole stock with some laser checkering on the palm swell, for the same prices as a stock without the additional checkering (yes, I know some people call it "checking").
I ordered it; and was looking forward to getting it quickly, as it was already made. Then, about a week later this email shows up:

Personally, I feel that E-Mail should have included a discount coupon code, for the "inconvenience". Heck, I was already making inquiries on where to get a metal trigger guard for the stock; glad I hadn't ordered it yet. I had wondered why the online customer reviews were so brutal to Boyds (especially in the areas of customer service and order completion). Well, I guess I know now.

Yes they do lack in customer service, but, what are the alternatives? I get the feeling they have good size manufacturing plant and a too small staff to do customer service.
BTW This morning I was trying to order a pro varmit with a adjustable comb for a gen 2 and looks like that doesn’t exist. May have to look into a thumb hole now.

It looks like they re-worked their website in the past week. Gone are some of the wood selections (all of the ripple variants), adjustable cheek piece, the no-finish option, etc). Perhaps they are waiting for new images to populate their site with.
As for options, there are people within this forum who sell custom stocks, but as expected, their price is higher than a production model.
