Title: Advice on what to look for?
Post by: Yng@hrt on October 07, 2017, 06:11:37 AM
Headed to a gun show this morning. Will be searching for Sheridan Silver Streak's, Super Grade's (a fella can dream can't he?), & Benji 392's. Any other recommendations would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

A Crosman 101 is always a nice find.

Take your smart phone and when you see an airgun you are unfamiliar with do a google search on it. Any write up from "Airgun Academy" or "Another Airgun Blog" are good, dependable, unbiased resources of info.   There is also the good old GTA search function for a wealth of info at your fingertips.

Knowing your affection for vintage pumpers Marty, maybe if you see a Crosman 1400 it will tickle your fancy.

Sharp Ace. Dubbed the Sheridan of the Orient. They're supposed to be well made, hard shooting & accurate. Plus, very few people have one. So it would definitely be unique.

I saw a pretty nice Model A for sale, recently.
Last gun show I went to did not have a single air rifle ! I wanted to go to the air rifle gun show this month, but doubt I will be able to. Good luck.

That's the thing about NM. Just finding any air rifle at a show would be a plus. Spoke to a guy last year at his booth & he said this show would probably be my best bet at finding something. Waited a whole year. Imagine that, lived here almost 60 yrs & last year was my first gun show. Didn't know there were different types of gun shows. Yup, I'd have to say I'm still pretty green when it comes to this stuff. :(

I go to every gun show looking for airguns.  Don't find them often but have made a few killer deals.  When a firearms dealer has an older one that needs seals they may sell it very cheap.

I was going to suggest you print out your thread list but thought "Nah, that's too obvious".  ;D

Now, not that I am currently fond of one or anything....
But you might keep you eyes open for a CO2 Sheridan Model F to 'round out you collection.
Most people don't know what it is and you might get it cheap.

To OP, I find better luck at swap meets and antique shows.  When I lived up north, there was a small 'antique' show at the local fairgrounds every few months.  I got to know some of the vendors.  Turns out they go around to estate and yard sales, buy up stuff, then take it to the antique show.  After a couple of shows, pretty quickly there were airguns showing up.  Yes, I paid more than they did for them, but then I didn't have to drive around every weekend to every yard sale in the county.  They were on the lookout for stuff that I wanted and would smile bigly when they saw me at the antique show.  Let them do the work for you.

Last gun show I went to cost the same as Marty mentioned. Admission doubled for two of us. I found one air gun. A rusted Chinese B2. The guy said "I'll let you have that for $60". I just had to walk away without saying anything.

Sounds like you have a good system working for you. When you think about it your coming out smelling like a rose. Those guys are lucky if they break even, gas, time, etc.

Well Bill, at least you did better than me that go round. A rust bucket is better than a goose egg...I think. Maybe next time I'll peak through the window before dishing out hard earned cash to see a bunch of cra&...knives & rifles folks r trying to get rid of.

I saw a Model A recently for $1200 . A Model B can bring $1500 up., if in great condition.
Only collectibles that are not in my stables are the Left Handed Sheridan & a Model F, CO2. I have had many chances to buy a Model F , but never did because I never thought I would wind up collecting Sheridans. Will probably get one & put a scope on it. Left handed ones can cost more than the A & B !

I doubt you'll find one buy you should keep an eye out for a Crosman Canadian boy
(https://s1.postimg.org/8fislfd8of/9f457a2fe977dc34c7d99d901154d2fd.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
They were made in Canada out of the crosman 130 pistol valve...ect and would later prompt crosman to develop the powermaster 760.

Have to agree that would be a find.  I wouldn’t mind finding a Benjamin 397 carbine either.  They were not made very long.  Underpowered maybe but cool.

To me I look for anything that is unusual in good shape and just makes me smile.  I would love to find a Crosman Town and Country.  Never know what can turn up, I take my blue book and hope.  Airgun shows are really the place to go.  I went to a regular gun show and only one table with airguns and mostly overpriced and beat to *(&^.

That's where I borrowed the picture from.
Btw if someone plays their cards right they could turn a 1377 into basically a Canadian boy for under $250 plus some work to convert the stock. Of course it'll help if you sell the 1377 trigger group and grips / forearm that come on it when your bulid is done
All you need is a custom shop 1377 with steel breech and 18" barrel ( basically 100$ plus shipping ) then a 2260 stock and trigger group.
I found the stock and trigger group for 100$ and 50$ respectively on eBay but I'm sure they're much less from crosman.
