Title: chenglong9842 eBay Compressor Scam
Post by: Rat Sniper (AKA: PaulT58) on October 06, 2017, 10:48:13 AM
I'm starting this post in response to a post in the eBay $228 Compressor post in Bargain Gate.  This is to document who was scammed by the elusive seller chenglong9842 and brief timelines to receive a refund from eBay.  It was only 13 days from my initial contact with eBay until I had a refund, but it sure seemed much longer!  So, I'll start:

Order date:  Aug 27, 2017
Best Offer:  $200
1st contact with seller: Aug 29, 2017 (Questioned when it would ship)
Shipped:  Sep 2, 2017
First reported to eBay:  Sep 4, 2017 (Due to ePacket Shipping)
Dispute initiated with eBay: Sep 9, 2017
Delivery: Sep 16, 2017
Received:  Fake 1800 U.S. Silver Dollar (was steel, not silver)
Request to file IC3 Report:  Sep 18, 2017
Adjudicated in my favor:  Sep 20, 2017
Refunded posted:  Sep 21, 2017

Please feel free to add what ever details you'd like share.  It would be interesting to see exactly how members were harmed by this slime-ball!

Well I am not going back to look for dates but this is how things went  for me:

Sent a message through E Bay to the seller saying cancel my order as it had not shipped and to refund my money

After a couple of days and getting no reply as I knew I would not I contacted E Bay about the situation and they explained to me that I had to wait 5 days from the time the message was sent and they would then step in

Well on the 6th day I called E Bay and was told that now they would send a message to the seller and they would wait the 5 days for a reply. I said good luck as they are gone, their store is gone and all their listing are gone. They said yes that is correct but this is the process that has to be followed.

So after about 5 day so I called E Bay again and was told to call back in 2 days

I kinda forgot to call the till the 3rd day and was told a refund would be in my account within a couple of days but I was there that evening.

So I was OK with a 13 day wait as the process made sense to me. They needed to give both the seller and the purchaser an equal time to try and sort things out.

Yes we all knew this was a scam but I am sure there has been times an E Bay purchase was not shipped as soon as it should because of some uncontrollable situation on the sellers end of things. A total of a 10 day wait for the seller to respond is appropriate as who knows I could find myself in a situation that was beyond my control but would be taken care of as soon as I was in control of things again.

I am truly sorry for those that are having issues getting a refund and truly hope it works out OK for them.

Good Luck
Norm

Wow, it's going to be interesting the various levels of help folks received from eBay/PayPal, I can already see some pretty stark disparities!  I had saved all e-mail correspondence between the seller and eBay to a folder, so it was pretty easy to look back at dates.  I certainly don't expect everyone to do the same.  This is more a head count of those scammed by this guy, and whether or not you have received a refund.  Although, the timeline and circumstances are as interesting as they are varied!
