Title: What next
Post by: jwh on May 28, 2011, 09:28:41 PM
R11 in 177
HW35e
Browning SA 22LR
Remington 552 LR

I know lots of you folks shoot powder burners also. I just gave my son a tricked out Ruger 1022 which leaves me with a Marlin 39A (lever) and a CZ 452 Varmint (BOLT) in .17hmr as my only rimfire rifles. I have always had a decent semi-auto in .22 LR. You can see my airguns in my sig. What is your opinion and why? I understand it's a personal choice but I like to hear others ideas. Thanks folks.

Well in terms of what is next for you, I would say you may want to look into PCP.  Although it can be costly initially they are awesome guns.  Thats just my two cents

Since you have a nice collection of HW's going on, why not the HW100 PCP?

Here is my opinion like sad you have nice HW's and a good PCP gun is in order and if you want a good one get yourself a Theoben Rapid MK11 it will probly out shoot your 22lr's and all of your AG's, these are awesome guns and very tunable to just about any power level you could want with in reason! Allen Zasadny is the master tuner of these guns and can hook you up with one with what ever you want! These are awesome hunters and super accurate and IMO the best out there! and if you buy one from AZ he'll tune it for free! Spring guns are cool but a good PCP gun even better! :P

I'm not clear what you are asking, what next AG, or a semi auto rimfire? If you are meaning rimfire I like the 10/22 tricked out, or you can just get a Volquartsen,,,,,,super sweeeet! I can't think of any semi auto AGs other than the various Umarex replica models. Maybe put a shoulder stock on one and make a carbine? ???

FX has a few semi auto AG's that are awesome, with 12 shot mags in .22cal or .177cal :P

Thanks for your thoughts on this. A PCP is not in my future. I enjoy the airguns because of their simplicty and ease of use.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to the 4 mentioned. Now to decide which one before something else comes along and grabs my attention.

That's a tough choice. IMO if it was me I would look to a nice airarms TX200 or pro sport. You have most of the best german made rifles available. I would get one of the best England made ones next. You won't be disappointed in the quality. Bluing and wood is unbelievable with legendary performance.  ;D

I can see the suggestion for the TX200... but mine is a little different: RWS 54

You have some nice shooters. You might want to expand your experience. The 54... what a wonderful gun. And what a different experience. Expensive as heck... but you don't have cheap guns. I can help get you a decent price on one...

Other than that, my suggestions are outside of germany ;-)

I have heard nothing but good about the AA rifles.

I have had a 52 in .177, a 460 in .22, a 34 in .177 and a 350 in.22. The 350 was tuned by Gene and shot with authority and great accuracy. The 52 was a very fine shooter. I just never got that feeling from the Lady DI's that I get from my HW's.

JWH,

I have had a RWS 48, and a 350. I have shot a 460. These guns just do NOT compare at all to a 54. The 54's recoil absorption is OUTSTANDING... it pushes back about as much as my TF BS4, at about twice the FPS.

If you have not shot the 54, you do not know what an RWS is capable of.

Oh, and I own a hw97k... no contest. None. the 54 is that outstanding...

Richard

I have never shot a 54. I do recall several threads over the years on keeping the action in sync so that it doesn't impact accuracy. Is this a problem or just an isolated case here and there. As I still have a port in my chest within an inch or two of the sweet spot when shouldering a rifle the no recoil is appealing. So far I am only shooting my R7 and HW 50 since getting back home.

BTW when I got sick last year you were doing a lot of photography books and classes. I see you are now in the airgun business. The airgun bug bites hard at times.

oh, I still do the photography stuff. I am actually finishing up a book now... and starting a new online school. The book is due in a couple weeks, and the school is something I hope to have online soon.

I'd been building up the airgun thing a little over the year before I ventured out. I'd been selling a good number of scopes on eBay -- I thought a few a month was pretty good. I sell 10X that now. Just slid right into it when I lost my day job some 14 months ago now. I still work 9-5, work before work, work after work, and work on weekends, it is just I do all of it from the home office now.
