Title: Trajectory and wind resistance .177/16gr vs .22/16gr JSBs
Post by: skorec on September 27, 2017, 03:27:00 AM
Can you compare  trajectory and effecting of the wind  at  the  900 FPS  for
16gr/.177  JSB exact  Beast   and  16gr/.22  exact  Jumbo ?

On paper the .177 will do better. Real life outdoor results may vary :o

Why do you think  ?

For Sight Heigh 2,4 and Zero Range 72 yd  and 950 FPS  the  ChairGun have answered  me :
-   Drop down 9” for .22/16gr exact  Jumbo at 100 yd with    BC=0,03
-   Drop down  7” for ..177/16gr exact  Beast  at 100 yd with   BC=0,045/

Unfortunately we do not know BC for  future  JSB Exact Beast .177 REDESIGNED but I hope it will be 1/3 better .
...................................
I checked it again after red https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=132886.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=132886.0) and it seems that I made some mistake in chairgun and  BCs .
Can you check  me.

This argument comes along frequently.... If the muzzle velocity is the same, the ballistics of the .177 will be better (higher SD and therefore BC).... so the velocity and energy downrange will be higher.... However, there are two flawed concepts in the original question.... Firstly, virtually any PCP will launch the same weight pellet in a larger caliber at a higher velocity because there is more base area for the air to push on.... You have to DETUNE the .22 cal, relative to the .177 cal, to get them to shoot the same weight pellet at the same velocity.... Secondly, the natural tendency for the SD is to increase in proportion to caliber.... By choosing the same weight in both calibers, you are further handicapping the SD of the .22 cal, relative to what it is capable of (or would be the normal pellet weight chosen)....

So, yeah, the .177 has better ballistics than the same weight pellet in .22 cal.... but realistically, who cares.... you have to handicap the .22 to prove it.... Kind of like asking "which shoots harder, a .177 on 3000 psi HPA or a .22 on 2000 psi"?.... A fair question?.... Not IMO....

Beast can be shot at a 1000fps accurately. The .22 can’t. BC is great, and velocity can be set high. I shoot a Warp at 1000- 1040fps, with the Beasts. Try that with an ordinary pellet!

YES I agree absolutely but not so accurate as JSB Heavy. B
Much better wind  resistance have Piledrivers
