Always wanted a wood stock for my 2100/766/2200 guns so.....
Took a Benji stock and modified it to fit a 766 receiver.
still a work in progress but here it is so far.
-
Looks Good ! ;) I like it ! ;D Best Regards - Tom
-
Looks like fun.
-
Looks good! You going to try to make a forearm with the rest of it?
-
I made a few for some of my guns and the 766 will be all wood.
The center gun is a "78" 760 with a 2100 pump tube, all wood and metal.
785 FPS with 10 pumps. Just finished it last month.
A thumb hole stock would be nice on the 2100.
-
Fascinating!
-
Nice work.

Is that Ruger 10/22 wood you used on that 760 ?
As far as the thumbhole stock goes, the look is not my style ( I'd rather try to exactly replicate the original ) but you did a good job and it shouldn't look too bad when done.
-
Yes, the 760 wood stock was from a 80s Ruger 10-22.
The thumb hole stock is not for everyone but this stock feels really good.
Stripped and stained it yesterday.
-
Very cool!
-
Sealed the stock.
Needs to be rubbed out after the finish cures.
-
Looks great!
-
Thanks UCChris.
I believe this wood is birch so it was really a challenge to get it to look decent.
Birch, pine, cherry, alder etc don't take stain evenly so if I can't get it to work
I break out the truck bed liner like this one.
-
That look GREAT !!
-
Back together
-
Turned out great!

Did you do a pump handle yet?

Did you do a pump handle yet?
Not yet. I have a few 766 parts guns and that TH stock will go on one along with a wood pump arm.
I'll be making a similar TH stock for my Hot Rod 2100 which already has a wood pump arm.
-
Made a TH stock for my Hot Rod 2100.
Sanded off the Monte Carlo cheeks and lightened the stain to match the existing wood pump arm.
This stock had better wood grain than the first.
Should get it together soon.
-
Dang those look good. I would be sure to hold the receiver when pumping.
-
Here's 2 more options.
One is from a Storm XT and the other is Trail NP XL.
The Storm stock would result in a more classic look.
-
I'm liking the thumbhole... little more unique.

I agree. I especially like the Trail TH stock.
Replace the plastic grip cap with black walnut would be a class act.
I think I found my next project.
Here they are all together.
-
I have a 2200 Magnum that's just begging me for a Trail TH stock.
Made the bracket earlier today.

TD10,
You just continue to bark up my tree with these projects. I also happen to have 2 2200 magnums... one already has wood. Just not thumbhole.
I also have a 766, AM77 and 2 2100 classics. Some in wood and some not.

The secret to a decent stain job on Beech is pre-stain followed by a Gel Stain. I did that on my Varmint and the stain came out pretty even.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that once on ash and the result looked more like plastic than wood. I used regular Minwax stain though.
May have to try the gel stain. I also read that using dye stains work better than the oil stains.
Do you have any pictures of your stocks?

Woof, woof, I put the 2100 together, balances at the loading port. LOP=14.25".

Oh Man !!! Now all you have to do is box it up and send it to me ... right?

Ha, ha, I could never part with that gun.
I got it in 2012 and have done extensive mods to it.
I may do a separate thread on the mods.
Velocity with 7.9 grain CPHPs:
07 pumps=730 FPS
10 pumps=820 FPS
15 pumps= 920 FPS
It's also very accurate.
Really likes H&N FTTs and Barracuda Match pellets.
I like the early 766 receivers with the elongated trigger guard with 4 screws.
The fit and finish is much better and fitting the bracket is easier.
I use 1" square brass tubing and it fits the early receivers perfect.
The newer ones need about .025" ground off the sides.
I have 2 of them and a 1980 766.
3-2100s and a 2200.

My 766 is very "minty". I swapped the AM77 black plastic to it and it looks awesome. It looks like the big brother to a PowerMaster 66. I need to replace a valve seal or a pump seal. Something is not up to par. Here are a couple pictures of it and the 2 head shots it made on a Copperhead.
-
You may notice the sticker is still on the underside of the barrel shroud. It says "Rifled Barrel".

Nice gun, I have an 80 just like that one only brown.
If I would have known the AM77 is the same as the 2100 I probably would have got it instead.
I have 2 V1 guns. They had the one piece breech/valve and no markings on the receiver.
They were dogs but I cut the valve off and counter bored the port to 1/4" to take a transfer port.
The result is a one piece breech. Can be drilled out to 22 or 25 cal.

Dang son... you are the king of mods.
Give me some tips on those nasty triggers.

Here you go, this was MinWax black gel Stain, one coat left on 15 minutes after a pre-stain treatment:

Triggers?
I did mod the hammer by adding some weight to it.
The stock hammer weighs only 28 grams so I pressed on a brass collar upping the weight to 34 grams or a 21% increase.
The extra weight should help at the high end.
Since the hammer was modded I had to remove one of the stops on the sear.
Also took some off the height.

Looks good, I'll have to check out the gel stains next time I'm at Lowe's.
