Title: Possession Limit Maxed Out ! Picked up my last one with the B-3
Post by: A.K.A. Tommy Boy on September 24, 2017, 05:28:29 PM
Not much to tell on this one.  :D   I just got home from Church and decided to go out and set in the woods until evening, with the B-3. I did not expect to see much given the current Hot Spell.  It is Hotter than the Dickens and I had just left my back yard when I spotted this squirrel, on the ground about 20 yards away from me. He scurried up the nearest tree and stopped on a branch, to take a look at me.  I already had the B-3 shouldered and the squirrel in the scopes crosshair. I pulled the trigger and caught him in the head with a 117cal 7.4 Grain Crosman Premier Pointed Pellet. The pellet entered just below his ear.  I was only in the woods 50 yards or so from my backyard. I did not even have a chance to set up or set down. I retrieved my squirrel and " Beat Feet" back to the house and the AIR CONDITIONING. I'm maxed out at 14 squirrels on my position limit now. I either must take the squirrels over to my son's place and put them in his freezer or he must make time for our crock pot feed before I can go hunting squirrels again.  It has been a Great Season this year !    ;D

My Best Wishes to All !     Good Hunting to All !       -       Tom Wood

Thank you for your kind reply Brandon.  :)  Yes it does fell good in putting food on the table, especially in this, computer driven, day and age.   I was lucky today, it has been so hot that nothing is acting as it should this time of year.  Also, I was lucky to be able to Hunt  while the sky's were clear and dry.  ;)  It is Raining Cats & Dogs now and it is supposed to Thunder Storm, Hail & Rain for the next Three Days. :o   After the Thunder Storms pass then the Temperatures are supposed to go into the ice box with a big blast of Canadian Frontal Cold weather.  Go Figure..Right?          My Best Wishes - Tom

It's a good problem to have. Nice shot, too!

Three squirrels are a perfect fit in the pressure cooker. Three more in the Crock Pot.

Are they still 'in your possession' if they're cooked and frozen?

If not, then yes, time to start filling your son's freezer. Maybe cook a few up in a stew to bring over too...

Jeremy ..Good Questions...with murky answers. I think that the the squirrels have to be eaten in-order to clear the books.  I'm pretty sure that if I have them, in any way, shape or form, they are considered in my possession.  Thank You for your reply, Jeremy       My Best Wishes - Tom

I'm trying to decipher the crazy Minnesota Regulations on this. ??? Will call the DNR Too. Different people will give you diffrent answers sometimes. Sometimes court decisions must be researched to clarify questions. :-\    Really NUTS !  :P

That's the best idea, to call a dnr officer and ask them directly, most states have one that works a certain county and there number will be posted on the website.

Great shot on your limit squirrel Tom !!!  Here in Mi it's a bag limit of five per day, I haven't gotten that yet this year.  Unlimited red squirrels though (no bag limit on them).

Thank You for the reply, Wayne.;D.  Here in MN the Bag limit is 7 and the Possession limit is 14, for Gray and Fox squirrels. It doesn't mention Reds so I'm not sure there. I'll have to check further.  ???   Got my wife a license today,( Recommendation from MN DNR ) so I can now keep, 2 possession, limits in the freezer.  ;D        Best Wishes to You for More Good Hunting   -   Tom

Brandon Hi !   My son is a Professional Alaskan Big Game Hunting Guide. He has guided big game hunts on Kodiak island for the last 18 years. While guiding in Alaska he picked up some crock-pot recipes, that we use for wild game.  That was what I was referring to as his Alaskan Recipe. This was his last year, guiding other hunters. He sold the business at the end of August.  He is 46 and has decided to get some "Outdoor Bucket List" things done for himself, before he gets too old.   I hope I have answered you question, to your satisfaction Brandon.        Best Wishes  -  Tom

He and I have been on several hunts but I have not done Alaska with him yet. That is one of his Bucket List Items. Now that He is free and I am retired we may spend the entire season hunting up there and not just a week or so. He is also a Free Lance Wildlife Photographer, Wild Life Author and Free lance Commercial Photographer. His Degree is in Wildlife Biology.   Here is his book. If you are interested in "BIG BEARS" this is the best one out there on the subject and was 8 years in the making.   Now available at Amazon.    Best Wishes. -  Tom

Yes Brandon, Jason is quite skilled.  He has traveled the Alaskan backcountry quite a lot. He has gone into the Alaskan Mainland Wilderness, opposite Kodiak Island, by bush plane and paddled down river, the 500 miles or so, back out to the coast. There he arranges for a float plane pick-up. He does most of this alone, too. That is how a lot of the pictures in his book were obtained. He has spent the entire warm season, from ice-out to ice-up in the Alaskan Wilderness alone. He has also gone out in Backcountry Alaska during winter and has journeyed north of the Arctic Circle. He know how to build Igloos and Quinzees and is an expert Cross-country skier and snowshoer. All my boys grew up with a paddle in their hands and a Ruck-sack on their back. I would take them on wilderness canoe trips, from Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the Far North Canadian Wilderness and the Canadian Barren Grounds. We went on an old Voyageur Route once, from Lake Superior to Lake Anthabasca. That was his primer for what he does today. Verlin Kruger was my Role model in those days and I had the opportunity to meet him and also Will Steiger. I spent the whole afternoon Yaking with those guys and getting tips, pointers, and trip suggestions. I was good friends then, with Norm Kagan and went to a lot of the Albert Faille Wilderness Society meetings. Many well known Wilderness & Arctic Explorers attended those meetings and I and my sons, got to meet and converse with several of them. These days I shoot Air Guns & walk the North Woods out back and leave the deep wilderness to younger souls.            Thank You for your reply Brandon - Best Wishes - Tom
