;) For a mere $32.97 at Walmart today picked one up and took it home.
Shot it less than a dozen times and onto the bench it went tearing it apart @ 80% to clean up, deburr & do some trigger work.
Found out like many have ... what a solid little pistol !!
outside of the plastic body and some TOUGH plastic at that the mechanics of pump are all metal as is firing valve & trigger parts ... WOW what a bargain !
Replaced a few o-rings with tougher Poly ones and then took the stones to the trigger sear parts for some badly needed cleanup. yea stamped parts can be kinda rough and these cheepo pistols are no exception. Next modified the trigger blade adjusting screw so it would screw in further giving a pull that was short travel & crisp after releasing safety ... OR, if you squeeze trigger sear moves a bid and then upon releasing safety the trigger is about a pound or less with NO creep at all ... Very nice !!
Barrel mopped out and crown touched up. * Wow nice barrel too being snug fitting and very nicely rifled, I'm shocked really at this barrel !!
Over on the chrony we got @382 fps with JSB 8.4's and @409 fps with RWS Hobby 7.0's being right to specifications packaging claims.
I'M IMPRESSED this little pistol shoots great and is far more gun than one would expect for @ $35 out the door ;D ;D

sounds like you got a fun little shooter there Scott.
Good deal.
now when do we get to see some 100yd groups / ;) ;D
-
Glad you got one Scott. They are a lot of cheap fun.
-
I really like mine. Even had a good cylinder with no burr on the air inlet. No better airgun value out there IMO.
-
Extremely accurate with cheap crosman wadcutters, as well. You just can't beat these guns for cheap, accurate pistols.
-
Been shooting them for a couple years now. Sent a couple to Eric at Stalwart Arms and he did some incredible stuff to them including some Teflon coating. Just picked up another from an online Walmart clearance for $20 shipped. I got lucky and got the last one. Some kid is gonna get a great Christmas gift.

You've actually over paid ;D

Yep! Fun doesn't usually come cheap but with a P17 Wow! Cheap Fun!
So Scott, tell me more about your trigger mod. You simply installed a longer grub screw?

A detailed write-up, with lots of pics would be greatly appreciated!...hint...hint

Scott,
Glad you discovered this "Steal of a Deal" .177 FUN pistol! I have two, did a little TLC (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=131384.msg1316124#msg1316124) tuning and have two fine shooting and accurate 10m pistols! Haven't had to stone the contact points, debur the cylinder or change one o-ring...Yet! If\when time comes I'm already ready! 8)
Enjoy,
Ted

I absolutely love mine. I'm almost hesitant to add to the typical "incredible value" theme for fear the manufacturer will start bumping up the price! ;-)

A longer grub was not the issue, the un-threaded stepped end is !
Took screw out and using the lathe ( Tho a drill & file works too ) removed another 3-4 threads effectively making the little stem portion longer. This allows grub screw to go in further before bottoming out. Result you take out more travel of sear mechanics taking sear closer to breaking point. Safety still works fine and found no issues doing so.

How would you compare it to a Daisy 747?
I have a 747 and think the world of it, but I see folks keep raving about the P17, which has me curious.

Nope, the P-17 is actually a certified clone of the P-3. And like I said, some of us have been buying them for a few years at this price. I got my first 5 or 6 from BigSupplyShop. Walmart is a better source now because of their return policy. With BSS you had to return to the manufacturer. Altho, I've never had to return on.... a few have.
-
Correct Bill! My comments were meant to be "toungue-in-cheek" humor, as the P17 IS a MIC P3 "in-disguise" (at 87% less)!!! ;)

Scott, Thank you, Sir!
Sounds easy enough that I will give it a shot.

For under $35 you can't afford not to find out.

I have both...
Same accuracy, better trigger (after easy home mods), more "conventional" form factor (similar to powder burning semi-auto pistols), and WAY better price!

Nicole has a P17. If you want to try it, remind me and next time we shoot and I'll bring it.

Scott,
Thanks for the heads-up on extending the trigger's pre-travel screw! Hadn't considered that as both my P17s had 3\16" travel (screws already bottomed out in the trigger's un-threaded end). Not bad, but took your lead by First, removing plastic set pin that protrudes into the already tapped hole (there for positive screw set resistance), then drilled out the thin un-threaded end with an 1\8" bit (where end of screw pin protrudes through trigger). Tapped the previous threads (4M-.70-36 pitch), cutting new threads through the wider opening. Cleaned cuttings and re-inserted the plastic screw set pin.
Now, can adjust minimal pre-travel with just-right screw-set resistance. Achieved 1\32" travel, virtually a hair trigger (mines for indoor target precision only and would not recommend for outside plinking or varmint hunting)! Trigger pull weights remain the same and all functions and safety selectors work perfectly! 8)

Wendell,
Sure, if you would consider this making it better (I did)! ;D
Scott's solution may be easier for some as he moded the PT screw...I decided to mod the trigger. Either way, took some pics along the journey!! 8)

Wendell, Dinh, Jerry & Tom,
Appreciate the comments, but Special Kudos to the OP Scott (Motorhead), for sharing with all of us his P17 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=132621.msg1317250#msg1317250) successful modding experience!! :D
Read in several areas on the GTA that his Accurizing\Tunning Business Services is the Best!! 8)

Scot, Ted,
Sorry for the confusion...I had meant my post for each of you! You guys ROCK!
-
It's all good ... Pictures posted got the info out there, works for me ;)
** Found myself near Wally world again today & just could not stand it :P Now own 2 giving it the same treatment this afternoon.
Now a friend can play too ;D
The safety on #2 was a lot tighter having no trigger motion at all before releasing, this allowed taking sear to critical that once safety is off the trigger breaks like glass with no detectable creep or travel .. Wow super trigger on #2

I disabled the "Auto Safety" function on my P17.
It still has a manual Safety which I can activate whenever I need it.
But the annoying auto safety was driving me nuts.
My first P17 is right out of the box stock except for the safety mod.
If my eyes were a little bit younger I'm sure I would have tighter groups.

The auto-safety often gets me when trying to perform trigger pull test with a Lyman meter... >:(
Otherwise, I'm in the habit of setting safetys before opening the breech for loading\cocking all my air guns. Since my triggers are not stock, I consider the P17 auto-safety a nice "safety" feature! ;)

Hi guys, anybody can tell me how to de burr the cylinder?
-
Small stone in dremel tool for the hole, Scotch bright pad wound on a wood dowel spun on a drill for the bore polishing.
