I went deep into the woods out back this morning with high hopes and the 25cal Hatsan. I also brought along the $13 Cheapie that I bought yesterday. I had no expectations on the $13 Cheapie and I am not sure exactly why I even brought it with me. I had The Cheapie loaded & safely secured in one of my PB shoulder holsters. I set up in a location that I had not hunted, as yet, this year. The sky was overcast and the Temperature had dropped from 80F on day 1 to 40F this morning. Fall weather had finally arrived. As dawn progressed and I was able to see into the tree tops, the squirrels began to show up. I could hear them scurrying around on the ground and in the trees. After about 45 minutes I spotted one up above in the branches. This one was a real worry-wart and kept on the move. It finally stopped next to a large forked branch, about 30 yds away. I carefully raised my rifle, took careful aim and squeezed off a shot at it. Just as I pulled the trigger it ducked down and the 19.91gr H&N FTT pellet hit the branch with a resounding thunk. This squirrel had successfully ducked my shot and.. off it went. I was in the act of reaching into my shirt pocket for another pellet for my rifle when a 2nd squirrel jumped into the exact same spot as the last one. I froze in my tracks and the squirrel looked right at me. I was wearing a set of Tigger Stripe Military BDU's and had a face veil and camo bush hat on. So.. Ok.. now what do I do. The rifle is unloaded and if I try and cock & re-load it,.. squirrel #2 will be gone in a heartbeat and it will probably alert all the others to my location. Also my arm is hanging in mid air with my fingers in my pocket. as I sat there trying to come up with a plan..well MR. squirrel #1 comes down the tree trunk immediately in front of me at a distance of around 10 yds. It jumps to the ground and starts making a zig-zaging scamper right toward me. Oh good..thats a worst case scenario now. One in the trees looking at me and one wanting to feed at my feet. Well the one on the ground must have finally figured out that something just wasn't right or got wind of my sent. ( I had sprayed down with sent blocker this morning ). Where was a Hecks outfit when I needed one. I was really wishing I had one of them on at that moment. Ok so the one on the ground stops and stares at me from about 8 Ft then heads back to the tree double time. It stops just for one last look at me and I'm thinking its now or never. It looks up at the one in the trees to see what it is doing and I draw the Crosman 1377 pistol, that I had just bought yesterday and fired at the back of it's head with a 177cal H&N 8.5 sniper medium domed pellet. The gun was pumped to the maximum 10 pumps. I had only shot this gun a few times last night and was not so sure how the sights were aligned on it. In the next moment a red spot appears, dead center, on the back of its head and it slowly drops to the ground. The squirrel in the branches must have thought that it went back down to the ground to feed and "All Was Clear" because it did not alert and calmly moves out of sight in the tree branches, then jumps over to another tree and moves off. I sat there dumbfounded trying to take this all in. I had by the sheerest of LUCK just taken my 1st squirrel with this pistol and my 1st squirrel with a pistol EVER ! It was all so impossible. I had gone to Walmart yesterday to pick up a duck stamp and had seen this pistol on the shelf marked down to $13 and I had made an Impulse Buy. Impulse buy's are something I NEVER Do. I always think things "to death", before I buy anything ! I had researched my rifles for about 3 to 6 months each... before I bought them. I decided to go back to the house and come back out later. :D THINGS JUST COULD NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS AND I WAS TOO PUMPED UP TO HUNT ANYMORE THIS MORNING !!! ;D WOW..WHAT A MORNING ! ;) BY BEST WISHES TO ALL - TOM

That's one heck of a day Tom. Congrats to you.
I have both a 1377 & 1322, and I find them pretty accurate at 20 yards once you get the sights and sight picture dialed in. I've never taken a shot at a squirrel with them, but you raise a very good point that when these close encounters occur, a pistol is a nice option. Maybe I should keep one handy when I'm out back.
Continued success.

Hi Bryan I Did. That was the only one left that day ! I told people here in the forum, that if they were interested in this one, to copy the picture of the gun with the marked down price on it and take it to their local Walmart. Walmart matches other company's prices and they just might have to match a price, from another one of their own stores. Thank You for your kind reply. Best Wishes & Good Hunting - Tom

My 1377 is more accurate than I am. Then I made the mistake of adding a stock to it, now I can`t hit jack with it. My eyes just cant adjust to the dovetail now because it`s too close. Guess I`ll have to take the stock off so I can use the thing again.
I will wait until it cools off around here before going hunting. IMO our season opens too early any way. October 1 would make more sense to me.

Rick : I won't be getting a stock for mine. I'm a retired Poor Boy. I had not even thought of ever getting a pistol :o But.... a 177cal. gun at $13 and no C02 to buy...Yeah I can do that. ;D Now I just have to learn how to shoot it. ;) The work is never none is it. ;D The weather this week has been NUTS. 38F-40F Monday & 90F this Friday. Tornadoes all last night and Rain-Rain-then More Rain. But on the Bright Side...NO Hurricanes Here. :) By October, this year, the Leaves around here will all be gone, I think. They started falling down Big Time starting last Monday. A lot of wind last nite dropped even more. In October I'll be able to see things on the ground but the White Oak Acorns will be all gone by then I think. It is starting to look like deer central around the spots I hunt and I think that a black bear is working my hunting area too. I saw a rotted deadfall that was all clawed up out there. Got to get them while the getting is good. This has been a bumper crop year for the Acorns and they are ripe at just the right time too. Keep me posted on how your hunting goes ! I LIVE to HUNT ! I bought a Crosman holster for my 1377 & 2240 for this very reason. Can't tell you how many times squirrels have run straight at me while I'm standing still in the woods. Usually they are too close for the scoped rifle, and I've often wished I had one of my several pellet pistols. My 1377 gets 603fps with 12 pumps, which is 6.3 FPE at the muzzle at 10 yards I still have 5.7 FPE, which more than ample to take out a squirrel. The 2240 gets 540fps and 9.3 FPE at muzzle, and 8.2 FPE at 10 yards with CPHPs. Both fit the Crosman holster.
Looking forward to taking one of mine the next time I go for the bushy tails. Nice shooting!

Joe : The Holster that I used was the one for my 8in barrel 44Mag PB. It worked "so so". SO I used it . ;D The whole adventure with the pistol, from store to the woods the next day, was CRAZY. It certainly was not in the game plan on opening day. I'm a retired Poor Boy. I don't have a chronograph, so I have no idea what the speed is, of anything I have. I haven't worried about how fast anything is. If they Group Well, Shoot Straight and Hit Hard then they stay. What does a Crosman holster go for ? That would probably work the best and it certainly would beat "making one out of cardboard and Gorilla Duct Tape". ;D Thank You for your reply Joe. Keep me posted on how Your Hunts go ! Nice shooting with a pistol Tom! I can't hunt with a pistol - not good at it unless I have a very stable rest and even then..
Great price on the 1377. I am sure it wasn't luck. You 're a skillful marksman, you can't fool us ;)

Thank You Harry for the kind words and your reply. I am sure that luck was on my side that day (but I'll gladly accept the Honor Bestowed.) ;)
#1 I had not had much practice with that pistol. I just got it the day before, heck the gun was not even sighted in, nor were the sights adjusted. ::)
#2 Senior moment in progress - I can't remember what #2 was . ???
#3 I had just went to Walmart to Get a Duck Stamp and came home with a duck stamp and a $13 New Gun that costs $39 (as a refeb) elsewhere. ;D
#4 I just remembered what #2 was. I am mostly blind in the left eye. ( Wet Macular Degeneration in both eyes and mostly blind in the left one, since I was 28.} Histoplasmosis scaring in my retinas. No depth perception. :-\
-
I got another one with the Crosman 1377 CHEAPIE ! ;D I shot this one on the ground at about 5 yards. I was sitting inside a makeshift blind out back, in the woods, about 40 yards from my place, late this afternoon/evening. I hit this fox squirrel in the back of his head with a H&N 8.5gr 177cal Sniper Medium Domed Pellet. Wow I really did not think I would be able to make the shot. The gun had the maximum of 10 pumps in it. The squirrels have really been on the move now that the weather has cooled of from the low 90F to the mid 50's. Best Wishes. - Tom

Once again, very well done Tom. You seem to have a knack for mastering either under powered or overpowered air guns. I have a 1377 pistol, and once you get the sight picture down, they can be accurate. Of course, I haven't shot mine much lately, so I have no doubt I would miss anything by a mile.
You might have to buy another freezer at this rate. Congratulations again.

Tom, even if you had both eyes closed, it'd still be a good shot, as long as you hit your mark ;)

Tom! Excellent story and shooting! That is such a feel good buy and hunt! I could imagine you standing there frozen looking at those squirrels! I have an old Benjamin pump pistol from the late 80’s with the twist bolt...great little pumper! For 13 bucks you got a shooter! YES! LOL! :)..impulse buys are tough to justify sometimes...not this one!

Randall....I got lucky a second time with another 1377 Pistol. I picked the second one up, from an local Arms list add, for $15. This one was used... BUT... it had never been fired. I got the gun and extras for $15 cash. The second 1377 had brown grips and pump arm on it. Both guns shoot well.
Best Wishes - Tom
