Title: Hurricane Relief funds
Post by: ezman604 on September 13, 2017, 08:58:52 AM
A country always seems to be divided due to race, religion or political differences. When we shine and show we are all in this together is when there is a disaster. Sad but at least we DO share a common interest and come together as one during these times. Here is our chance to show unity and compassion for our fellow inhabitants. The whole reason we can even exist is by helping others when we can or need to.
Please follow the link below to PayPal and select an organization to donate to during this crisis. Thanks to all who give. We can help folks rebuild their lives!!!

Great Idea! However, PayPal states 100% of the funds will be passed on with no Fee's. There's very little information as to If 100% of these donations are Indeed Going to be Passed on After the Middle Man To the listed Cause? I Personally made a Donation Directly to My Local {American Red Cross}. I'm personally not Trusting, When A Middleman is Involved. I am Interested in {Helping The US Only,}  PayPal's Information includes areas that I don't want to donate to here is It's post,     {Support the Victims of Hurricane Irma
On Wednesday, September 6, Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane, struck the northern Lesser Antilles before continuing across the Caribbean and up the coast of Florida} Look up Lesser Antilles, I prefer to Keep my Money Helping The Good Old US.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesser_Antilles#Political_divisions   Cheers make your donations Wisely      Saint-Martin no, France can take care of them, The us virgin Islands yes, But PayPal doesn't separate the two.

I've often wondered who gets the deduction for charities which take the money 💰 In and pass it along. Supposedly they add to the pot and give it to the fund. But as has been said,

pvhow can you be sure?

This is a really good question. After having been involved in 4 nonprofit orgs specifically in community development and including a Management and Directorial position in American Red Cross, I would say this is a genuine concern.
Policies developed on who gets help and how and when is constructed so that recipients do not abuse the system. However, it also serves to pay needless positions, "fees", specially selected vendors or religion based orgs, and so forth. I say: You can't be sure. Not unless you are the one standing there handing them the water, food, etc...
I would want more security in sending my donations...

Well, if you folks KNOW of a way to get relief funds to where they need to go, and feel comfortable using that source, PLEASE by all means post it so we can get something going!!!!
There are a lot of fellow Americans out there in need.
I understand the concern. Not long ago we started a Wounded Warrior airgun project here. I spent a LOT of time getting through the red tape trying to get to a WWP official that was interested in helping and guiding us. After many weeks of trying the official channels, we took care of it ourselves. A short time later stories surfaced about possible misappropriations of WWP funds. I sent a request to Fox News to investigate the rumors. Almost a year later there was a new announcement that the top two officials were not only fired but criminal charges were possible due to misappropriation of donated funds. I've also HEARD that 95% of the donations to Goodwill go to the founder and staff, not for any cause to help anyone but the executives.
So, there is always a chance that donations to a non-profit charitable organization will not go toward the exact cause you expected. Knowing this, I will still continue to give on the premise I am doing SOMETHING.
But please post the collecting sources you trust, if there are any.
MANY thanks to all!!!!

I personally don't feel Things are as Bad as they Expected, In Michigan here at Selfridge ANG Base 1000's of troops and Supplies were in place and in fact in the Air ;)  To Florida with Whatever was needed, Shelter, Food, Water Purification Supplies.  While enroute they were Directed, TO STAND DOWN, And returned to Base as they were Not Needed :o     http://woodtv.com/2017/09/12/mi-national-guard-told-to-stand-down-troops-not-needed-in-fl/ (http://woodtv.com/2017/09/12/mi-national-guard-told-to-stand-down-troops-not-needed-in-fl/)

Interesting. David (Rocker1) is still without power in Eustis, FL. And the local stores are out of food or water of any kind. I asked him and he has not seen ANY aide of any kind in his area. He has seen utility trucks pass by a few days ago but not stop in the area. No Red Cross or any local or federal government folks to even CHECK on them. This is sad.....

And reports of elderly dying from HEAT strokes in assisted living facilities without power? And there is no need to send help? Stand down? Shameful and VERY poor planning and decision making if you ask me. And disgraceful in this day and time!!!!
