Title: Hammer idea
Post by: mann on September 01, 2017, 12:34:57 AM
I was thinking the other day when I had my disco apart resealing a slow air leak at the valve . I looked at the hammer and thought what if you made a hammer and filled it with lead shot or tungsten shot which would make a dead blow hammer it would stop hammer bounce I believe and I would thread the rear to use a plug that way you can use different amounts of shot to get the ratio of fill right  any thoughts would be great

This seems to come up every 6 months or so, and the consensus is that in order for this to work, the cavity size, shot size and composition as well as hammer travel would all have to be perfect in order for this to work.

Also, fitting all that into a space that barely has enough room for the hammer spring even when it's going nearly completely through the hammer is going to be challenging to say the least and would most likely require an extension of some sort in order to fit it (or an extreme cocking effort).

Not saying it's impossible, but there are easier ways to do the same thing (TSS, SSG) that don't require re-engineering the entire hammer stroke/shot cycle and are completely tune-able. The Daystate slingshot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZgf4HRzWvc) is a play on the dead blow (independent secondary weight) except they use a spring to absorb the excess energy (which also makes it tune-able via spring rates, lengths etc).

If you build one, post it here!  8)
