Title: Cheap scopes
Post by: Sqrl_chsr on August 25, 2017, 12:32:40 PM
Anyone bought a cheap scope on Ebay?
I'm looking for a replacement for my Crosman F4 and there are several 3-9x in the $20-$30 range.

I haven't bought any off of Ebay, but I have several around here that I have picked up in pawn shops. I generally look for Bushnell brand, because they reportedly hold up well to springers, but I also have an older tasco and a couple of Weavers.

Not many pawn shops here.

Make sure that they are air gun rated, some may not hold up to springers. I use centerpoint, aim sports, or NC Star scopes on my air guns. Good luck.

Generally I think thst is the case, however Leapers/UTG has some very affordable products that are great, and I have a few old scopes that I would not trade for some of the newer and more expensive ones.

I have many cheap scopes and a couple of more expensive ones (nothing super expensive).  Most of my cheap scopes held up pretty well.  My .25 Hatsan 125 ate an NcStar 3-9X40 and my Gamo Swarm Maximm ate the Gamo scope that came with it.

I suspect that most cheap scopes are manufactured by the same factory and labeled with different "cool" brand names (i.e. Hammers, NcStar, Pinty, Tasco, Gamo, Optima,... etc.).  Many of them even come with the same manual.

When I can buy a scope for under fifty dollars, to me it's a bargain.

1 I looked at was 30 days money back and a 1 year warranty. Looks like I'll drop the cash.

Maybe it was this CV life scope you are thinking of... There is a thread here on it getting impressive results on GTA.

My search string for ebay:
3-9x40 Air Rifle Scope 11mm
The F4 has 11mm rails and I would rather the scope came equipped with the same.

I'm looking for something similar, with ao adjustment. There a few on ebay and aliexpress that are close to that price range. If you get one I'll be looking forward to your review on it☺️.
I think I'll try sell my 6-24 since it makes my gun so heavy, or maybe stick it on my hunting rifle instead.

I ordered a cheap scope from Ebay, location given was Staten island so I figured it would be here in a day or 2.
Not so! It took 2 days for the tracking number to become active and it is shipping from CA!

I went the cheap route with scopes for a long while... got tired of replacing them. But if you really want a cheapie then you could go with Daisy, they seem to last reasonably well, no match for mag springers though. The cheapest I go now is around $80, just food for thought.

Cheap is relative .....

I have bought a NEWEER brand scope ~$60 with side wheel AO and illuminated reticle. Even has an etched reticle! Honestly did NOT think it would make it on a springer. Well, it still holds perfect zero on a springer after 500 shots. (and a few knocks). I am actually thrilled, it has held up better? than some of my "cheaper" UTG/Leaper scopes (~$130)

Maybe I got lucky, but that brand manufactures camera and photo equipment so maybe they know what they are doing ???

Is NEWEER on amazon? I might have to check them out

Actually my bad spelling .. it's NEEWER, and yes it is on Amazon ....

https://www.amazon.com/6-25X56SFIR-Waterproof-Shockproof-Magnification-Illuminated/dp/B01CY0P3BE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504206709&sr=8-3&keywords=neewer+scope (https://www.amazon.com/6-25X56SFIR-Waterproof-Shockproof-Magnification-Illuminated/dp/B01CY0P3BE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504206709&sr=8-3&keywords=neewer+scope)

I do not have this model but have a 4-16x44 which I cannot seem to find right now on eBay or Amazon ??? It has an etched reticle, center illuminated (only the mildot crosshair - not the whole thing!!) and side wheel AO which works like a charm!

It sits on a Stoeger SPRINGER, and even after over 500 rounds, still holds true zero. I am impressed!

Best part: I bought it on sale on eBay for just under $50! Maybe it was a limited run and I got the last of them ?

The scope did NOT hold up.
I'm seeing shadows of the target, almost a double image.
I also noticed that all of a sudden I was hitting 2-3 inches off center without changing the scope settings.
It came with a 30 money back guarantee and a 1 year warranty.
Now dealing with the seller

The 1st reply from the seller was the scope needs to be zeroed every 4 or 5 shots. ???
I replied after zeroing in the only reason to do it again is if you change ammo.
Again they said  the scope needs to be zeroed every 4 or 5 shots. They said what about $3 refund.
I said no. Full refund.
They said $8 refund.
I said refund $18 and I''l keep the scope.
Waiting on their reply.
Anyone out there ever realign the lenses in a scope?

Just open a claim with eBay for defective product, and let them deal with it. They will get you a full refund.

If you want to stay with a CHEAP scope, your best bet is to find a used name brand scope rather than the really cheap new one ...

Just my opinion ....

Looks like they want to haggle.
I told them $18 refund, they said $13.
Let's try full refund and they send me a prepaid shipping label.

I guess the downside for me would be the lack of parallax adjustment, though with some you can turn the ring on the front end to bring it closer. Right now the specs say it is set for 50 yards, so as long as most of your shooting will be out at those distances it wouldn't be a problem. I've got a Simmons 3-9x40 that I did do the ring adjustment of the parallax to about 25 yards. Nice to have quick adjustability though.

I can't tell if that is the same as the one I had.
If just didn't hold up to the crosman springer I have.

IMO, you would be better off with an AO scope.
Look at the UTG scopes or if you prefer Crosman, Walmart had the Centerpoint 4-16X40mm for about $70 (I don't know if they still sell it).

Main thing, go AO.
