This is amazing, thank you!  I have a simple spreadsheet I created that has 5 shot strings from each of my airguns with formulas that calculate FPE and average the FPS, but it's no where near as cool as this!

Thank you for sharing, in need of a more updated one that was not in bar.

I'm still amazed at the generosity of the members of GTA.
Thank you!

This what GTA is all about, helping each other out for the love of the sport.  ;)

Thanks for the kudos!

I hope you find it useful.  It will calculate and display up to 186 shots for those with .177 bottled guns, but the graphs will be a little bunched up with those higher shot counts.  You can still use the data like ES, FPE and efficiency for those higher shot counts though.

Enjoy!

I wonder if I can do an RS-232 or USB connx to take, or allow, a data query from a compatible chrono. Nice job, spreadsheets are definitely too much fun when youre into something like this!

I have a cable and software from Chrono Connect which allows me to collect the data right from my Shooting Chrony. There are tutorials for creating the cable and software to query the unit, but I saw no need to re-invent the wheel.

No, I took it down.  It didn't seem like there was much interest in it and I found that the efficiency calculations in it were not very universal for regulated and nonregulated tunes.  I am however making one that I think is much better and more universal and will post it when completed.  I do have someone testing it for me right now.

Keith,

It looks excellent, I tried to get it , but alas .... I will wait for the new one unless you would be kind enough to repost this one, or email it to me?

Thanks

Being new to AR,
can you explain what is meant by regulated and non regulated, in ref to the efficiency calculations etc.

Thank you,
Don

I found that the efficiency calculations in it were not very universal for regulated and nonregulated tunes.

Thanks Travis!  Glad to see you're back in the saddle again.

"What comes around goes around"  I don't know a whole lot and most of what I've learned came from kind folks like you on the forums.  I have also received free misc parts I needed for my Synrods from many folks on here like you, fuzzygrub, dairyboy, rocker1, synrodsteve and some I forget the name of right off.  So, creating and sharing my spreadsheets is one thing I can do as a thank you for the help I have received from the forums.  This new spreadsheet will look very similar to the one I have been posting with recently and think it's a little better than the first one I shared.  It won't be too much longer.

Thanks Travis!  It relates to the current rating system employed for the threads allowing members to rate them.  Although one star would typically represent disapproval by a member, I'm happy with the one star as it reminded me of the three wise men that were only given one star and it also coincidentally fits in with my current studies titled  ONE STAR.  So I view the one star rating differently than others and it meant much more than negativity to me.

The rating stars I see in my browser are located at the top of each thread and on the main Darkside thread listings.

It's just another spreadsheet, but there are times when I see members looking for one to use so I decided to offer one up.  If you are in need of one this is one you will be able to download freely without any strings attached.

The spreadsheet is almost complete.  I corrected one error my tester found yesterday and am just waiting for him to run through it again before releasing it.

It does have what I think are some unique features like being able to view three different strings on three different graphs with all of the pertinent info.  It will highlight every shot that is within a 2.09% ES and also a 4.09% ES.  You will also be able to compare those three strings on one screen with just one mouse click.  In addition to that you will be able to compare any two of those three strings with each other on the same graph with one mouse click.  There is also a place to store additional strings that you can copy and past at will into one of the three graphs.

Another feature will allow you to flip your Caldwell strings around from ascending order to descending order and also strip the FPS column out of the data so you can just copy and past that part into the string graphs.

I didn't like being limited to just the Excel auto chart scaling so I added a feature to allow you to change the chart scaling to many different scales and I separated the min and max scale selections in a dropdown style menu which will change them very quickly and easily along with being able to reset them back to Excels defaults too.

The downloaded version will include all of these features mentioned and more, but is not my main master spreadsheet which is a little more complex and hard to share everything it does without some user issues.

None of my spreadsheets I've created compare to my prized spreadsheet I got from SynRodSteve called the Shot String Analyzer which he offers for sale via PM for a small fee.  Steve's spreadsheet is amazing and actually analyses multiple strings for you at once plus tons of other features to numerous to list, but I can't share that one for obvious reasons and is why I created one that I could share.  My spreadsheet doesn't even compare to his, but works fairly decent especially for free.

Edit 9-6-18:  New Rev. 03 version.

Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

Play with it, have fun with it and familiarize yourself with it.  If you have questions, just ask.  It wouldn't be a bad idea to save a copy with a new filename when you have some strings stored in it for a backup.

The spreadsheet was designed on a 24" monitor in a 2013 version of Excel.  If you are using an older legacy version of Excel, some features may or may not work, but for 2010 and maybe even for 2007 versions it should work ok?

I am viewing the charts will my zoom level set to 80%.  You can use the zoom slider feature in Excel if you are using a smaller screen size for a better fit on your screen.

Hope you enjoy it!

Keith

Great job Keith.  I haven't downloaded yet but have seen what you've done with your personal version and it's outstanding.  I do have to chuckle a bit at the 'Mac' comments.  I ran into the same thing with mine and like you, had no interest in learning the Mac version but it seems there is a 'need' for this sort of thing for the Mac.  The best answer I think, would be a web app that could be used by all platforms.  Anyway, I'm super impressed with what you've been able to accomplish with yours.

Thanks Steve!  It's not your SSA spreadsheet which I do cherish a copy of, but it was not meant to be either since I have your real deal that I already use.

I agree, having a universal version to please all would be great.  I know your Excel skills far exceed mine, and I would not be the best one to tackle that task.  It does take a lot of hours to build one of these as you well know.  Hopefully some will benefit from my offering which was my only goal.  I did not have a spreadsheet when I first got my PCP.  I worked my way up over time to create one and now I just feel like sharing it for those that are in the same boat as I was, that's all.

I am curious if you have macros enabled which it does have.  This may be the issue if not enabled.

Im trying to update both versions so can not re-check to confirm.  Though, if I recall I believe it prompts you that it has Macro and if I wanted to enable or disable I tried both to no avail.

back to the drawing board of getting my program up and running.  Like I said earlier I need to fine tune my macro skills and yes it is a lot of work as you stated.

Good deal and sounds like it is working for you.  I have been waiting to see someone confirm it's working for them besides me.  I did download it to another pc and it was fine on it.  My tester has some pc woes so I didn't really get a warm and fuzzy from him (no pun intended).

apperantly there is some sort of content not supported as stated in Excel:

"This workbook contains content that isn't supported in this version of Excel."

"To view the unsupported content in the file, you can open the workbook as read-only. However, if you change and then save the workbook, unsupported content will not be saved."

I can see all the worksheets but just all locked because of this mystery content thats not on Mac windows Excel.

What a stinker... hoping to learn something

Well I hate that for you Ron.  Wished it would work for you.  There is no telling what Mac is rejecting.  It could be the macros, graphs, formulas, security,  etc.  In addition to all of the different formulas, there are a number of offset formulas too, so Idk.

Good to know.  What additional maximums would you want?  FWIW, reset max and reset min are Excel's auto scale defaults which should scale better for you at the lower velocities.

Thank you, trigger, for the work you've done on this! It is very useful. I have been envying your spreadsheet for some time.  ::)
I also had the same issue with the Mac version of Excel reported by RONIN001. The error states that there is unsupported content and the options are to abort opening the file or to open as read-only. The warning goes on the say that if opened as read-only, you can save a copy of the file but the unsupported content will not be saved if you do. I saved the read-only file as a new file and opened the new file. No error. No obvious change in function of the spreadsheet. Just thought I would pass that along.

I have a question, maybe I missed it and if so I apologize...  What value are you looking for in the field labeled Regulated cc?

I'm assuming the Reservoir cc is the volume of the air cylinder, but I'm unclear on the other...

I plugged in the numbers for my Gauntlet with the 13ci bottle and the 23ci bottle before and after adding a washer to the regulator and got some interesting results!  This is a great tool!  Thank you for sharing it...

Thanks Robert and glad you like it.  I didn't really know Excel when I started this journey and still have much to learn about Excel.  Being a novice, it took a lot of time and YT videos to figure this all out, but I enjoy a challenge when it's fun stuff.

The regulated cc input refers to the regulated plenum space between the regulators output and the valves seat.  The more accurate the regulated cc, reservoir cc and PSI start and stop inputs are, the more accurate the efficiency data will be.  If no regulator then that input would be zero.

I like getting as accurate as I can with my numbers so I took fluid measurements of my plenum space and my remaining reservoir space to know what they are with my particular setup.  1ml is equal to 1cc so it's pretty easy to get a syringe with ml markings and measure these spaces with water.  It just takes a little time to do so.

Those strings in the spreadsheet are from another Marauder with an SS valve and are not my strings, but the res cc and reg cc inputs are mine and are the results of my fluid measurements which would be very close for any other Huma regulated Marauder with a stock reservoir that does not have a plenum extension of some sort.

One thing to keep in mind on the spreadsheet is the lbs/shot data and the PSI data per shot on the graph.  This data is the average pounds per shot data used over the full string.  We know that our guns are more efficient at the start with the higher pressures so if you're monitoring or jotting down your pressures as you shoot, you may be in disagreement with the lbs/shot data or the psi data showing on the graph for each shot which would be fair.  I am not sure how to calculate the data to match the changing efficiency of the air use throughout the shots but at least we have the average PSI use over the string to look at.

Thank you for your answer!  I did a quick calculation from the cubic inch value of the tank to cubit centimeters, but I'm not to sure about the regulator cc measurement.  These tanks use the Ninja paintball regulators, so I'm sure some searching may result in some measurements some one else has already taken.  Thanks again for the spreadsheet, it gives a great visual of what the rifle is doing over the entire string!

I saved it as a standard .xlsm file (I'm using Office 2016 on Mac). I closed the file I had open and opened the new copy, which was then read/write as it should be. Hope that helps.

Thanks TJ!  Yes, being able to compare strings can come in handy and is why I put that in there.

The spreadsheet can handle a 186 shot string which I thought may be handy for most .177 strings, but the graphs may get a bit cluttered with that many shots.  At least we will still be able to see the important data though.

Never tried that mix.  Maybe try a save as and rename?

I haven't shot any new strings over the chrony, but I have transferred old strings from my own rinky-dink spreadsheet to the one you posted. Nothing stands out as a problem as results seem to mirror the ones from my own. Of course it is much easier to identify where adjustments could/should be made with yours. It would seem that the initial error we saw when using Office on Macintosh was probably a gimme and does not appear to affect the calculations or visual representations provided by the spreadsheet. A simple open as read-only and Save As a new document gets that sorted nicely. Still loving the excellent work you've done there! Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Keith, have you given thought to doing/redoing this in the Open Office spreadsheet?

ITs free, updates are reasonably frequent. Might open the audience a bit more for folks that dont have Excel.....

Dan, I just tried the spreadsheet on Openoffice, it works just fine for me, you will need to change a security setting
to enable macros, after that it worked just fine.

Edit 9-6-18:  New Rev. 03 version.

Click here to download the free Rev 03 spreadsheet (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bp6ztFN7MqbnGLvh9dhwrka80fxTG0fT/view)

Thanks!  Post some strings if you want so we can see what a highly honed Maximus looks like.

I've tried several times now but have been unable to download this to "Numbers" on my iPad! Alwasy get a "whoops error occured" message.

I see someone else was able to use it on their iMac.

Any advice?

Sorry, I'm not a Mac user.  You might ask the Mac guys.  It was built on a PC using MS Excel and will work well with that.

Can you download the file to your Mac?
I got the same error on my laptop and was still able to download the file.

I don't have an iPad or numbers, but if you have a Mac, you can open it in Excel as a read only file and then save that as a new file. Try transferring the new file to the iPad and see if it opens in Numbers then? Of course, this assumes you have a Mac and Excel to begin with. You might also see if you can open it in Excel for iOS (I think it is free for iPads with a 10" screen and smaller). Perhaps you can work with it that way.

The "whoops" error message says "unable to preview", then just hit the download button. It works fine. Just did it on my Win10 laptop and android tablet.

Thanks a bunch, definitely going to try this out this weekend with the BT65 .25 cal. Just curious, but where could the SPClark SSA software be found. I'd love to try them both, but, I can't find that one anywhere.

Oh, one quick question about your Spreadsheet. In the Left hand column of "variables" that you can enter, I see "Regulated cc". What is that? Is that the volume of the regulator if you have one?

Thanks

I just downloaded the spreadsheet and opened it without any issues.  I would choose "save file" instead of "open file".  I am not sure why the preview on Google doesn't display anymore as it use to.  Maybe some new security measure or something?

Yes, you can input your regulated cc volume and your remaining HPA reservoir cc volume along with your set point for an accurate efficiency reading provided the start and stop pressures are accurate too.  The more accurate the numbers the more accurate the efficiency data.  I recommend a fluid test as I've done to be precise.  However, the numbers I have in the spreadsheet should be very close in a similar setup with a regulator.  If no regulator, set the set point and regulated cc to zero and set your reservoir cc to 215 for accurate efficiency numbers when using a stock Marauder setup.

I am still in touch with SynRodSteve (handle name on this forum) who created the SSA.  I still use the SSA and it is an awesome spreadsheet.  Steve has taken a break from the forums, but he still has his .25 Synrod and likes it.  The SSA is a complexed spreadsheet and requires support when dealing with the public.  You can try to PM Steve and see if he is still up to offering and supporting it.

Probably works for you because your using a "Windows" based OS.

When I try it with a "Mac" based OS and "Numbers", I get this!

Sorry to hear that.  I put a lot of time into building this spreadsheet to share as I saw a need for it on this forum and think it's a good one.

I do have some thoughts of revising the spreadsheet to make it even better and more user friendly.  Come on over to Windows, it's much better than in the past.

I have been on a chat with Google IT about the preview error for the last half-hour.  The conclusion was that their IT can't figure out exactly why the preview exist as they get the error too.  They suggest trying to upload it again which I will do when the revision is ready.

Thanks for the info. Just Chrono'ed the BT65 and used your spreadsheet. (I love the spreadsheet)

The gun is a BT65 Elite QE in .25. Fill was 200 bar. Huma regulator set at 130 BAR with the little metering Socket Head Cap Screw installed in the end (the way it came). No other mods yet. Both the Huma face O-ring AND the Valve O-ring are installed as I found the cylinder leaked if I left the valve O-ring off.
Ammo is JSB Diabolo Exact 25.39gr unsorted.

My goal was a shot string close being able to empty the three (9 shot) mags that came with it at a reasonable ES, with a FPE of at least 40.

I get 866 ft sec to 855 ft sec over 25 shots with an ES of 4% (42.3 FPE to 40.2 FPE).
From shot 25 to shot 36 I lost about 0.5 FPE per shot, with a final velocity of 754 with 32.1 FPE (these last 11 shots were still pretty accurate at 41 yards).

I find this tuning will keep any shot within the squares of the free target you can get from "Air Tanks For Sale" (I believe are 1" squares), most cutting the .25 dia red dot in the center if not taking it out entirely. I've just got back into PCP airguns and am relatively new to tuning (always been a Powder Burner before that). To those who tune, based on what I said I was looking for above, how's this look?

Keith,

Used to run "Fusion" and "Bootcamp" on a couple of Macbooks years ago. Best of both worlds, then I retired and didnt really need them anymore. Now an iPhone and iPad cover 99% of what I need these days but there are still a couple of Windows based programs I miss. Maybe its time to revisit the idea.

Thanks for following up on this.

Thanks Rattletrap!  You can use the chart scale pulldown menu in the upper left-hand corner of the main graph to rescale that graph and the main graph to go lower/higher and away from the top FPE scale.  The "reset max" and "reset min"  will reset the charts back to the default Excel scale at both extremes.  The "chart scale" selection just puts the cursor back to the upper left corner of the spreadsheet.  I use this selection to let me know I don't have any custom scaling being used.  Use it however you wish though.  It's yours now.
