I have a 22 cal Maximus.. I did a home made power adjuster and power did increase. I do not hove a chronograph but pellet expansion comparisons confirm an increase. My question is will the max flow valve at .161 give me any gain in velocity and is the max flow valve worth the money?

Squirrel s ask n started the 1st and today was the first time they gave me a good shot. Hit two with the HN Hunter exsteem and it crushed them. One a pass threw and the other expanded but did not mushroom like I wanted

It's hard to make changes like that to a gun without a chrony.

I have hunted with my Maximus .22 for a year. Several times, the pellets did not pass through. I noticed that the pellets were deformed to different degrees depending on how much bone the pellets went through. It seemed that the pellets that went through the shoulder area were most deformed. The pellets that traveled along inside the body showed almost no deformation. I would suggest that the pellets path has more to do with deformation than does the FPS. JMHO

Might be worth tuning your Maximus down if you are worried about pass-throughs. I don't take anything but head-shots and rarely get a pass-through. I get a quick kill and no chance of bone fragments in the meat. You'll probably end up with more shots, too.

I think your right about hitting bone and pellet deformation. I also think fps has something to do with it based on testing and prior squirrels and groundhogs that were shot. Pellets expanded more on game animal's when I added the power adjuster and increased fps

My gun passed through squirrels heads at 40 yards out the box. Not worried about pass throughs but if the pellet is not going to expand then I will go back to CPH. No since spending extra on a pellet that is supposed to expand but doesn't. CPH are laser accurate out my gun but do not expand at all.

Correct but shooting into a water trap and comparing pellet expansion will show increases in velocity. Also I presently get a shot count of 13 and that is more then enough for me. Squirrel limit here is 5. I don't think a larger transfer port will lower my shot count but I could be wrong

Crosman pellets are a harder alloy and don't expand much. I'll add that I have not seen Barracudas nor Barracuda Extremes expand worth a dang unless I shoot into a piece of pine or a bar of soap JSB Ultrashocks are my favorite expanding pellet. They are softer and even at a stately 550 FPS they expand. Crow Magnums also expand, but I get better groups using the Ultrashocks. A close second for expansion are Skenco Ultra Shocks. Polymags work great in the airguns I have that shoot them well.
Given a choice, I usually go for the most-accurate pellet over anything else, but I will add that my primary pesting gun, my PP700 pistol, shoots nearly everything well.

Hn crow magnum group like a shot gun out of my gun. The HN extreme shoot better then the CPH and preform better past 30 yards that is why I use them. USB ultra shock are 15 bucks for 150 that poly mag price range. Gamo red fire are 7 bucks for 125 and shoots almost as well as the hn and CPH. Hn terminators expand like crazy but will not group for me past 30 yards. I am holding the take a few squirrels with the red fire and see how they perform

If your shot placement is good then it doesn't matter what ya shoot them with. I only worry about pass through if there is a remote chance I might hit something behind it. Head shots are good if there is a chance of making the shot, but if your hunting, you take what ever shot you can get. Hopefully it is a heart/lung shot if you can't get a head shot. There isn't much meat to waste on a small game animal like a squirrel or rabbit if it goes through the ribs, it isn't like you will ever hear of a rack of baby back squirrel ribs.

You are right about the rib shot and lost of meat. None to really lose there. I take what I can get head or heart lung when hunting. I want expansion to insure the heart and lungs are taken out and not just pushed aside.. Also you want expansion to make sure all the energy is dumped into the animals. I personally like pass throughs so long as it is minimal.
