Title: I think I almost got screwed
Post by: MonsterMaxx on August 02, 2017, 02:24:24 PM
Not sure about this, but there's a fellow called FukoChan on AGN who was selling an airtank.  As we got close to closing the deal he disclosed that he had dropped it and it was damaged.

Not knowing much about CF tanks I asked him to get it tested.  He replied that his scuba people were idiots and that he still wanted me to take it, get it tested on my own and if it was bad he'd take it back.

Then I find this whole thread "Is this tank still good? A dropped Carbon Fiber 75cuft tank :(" on it that's two weeks old where everyone with any knowledge on the subject tells him it's junk.

What the heck people, if it's junk, don't sell it.  Certainly don't try to push your junk on someone else with excuses and a 'refund' offer.

This kind of thing really gets under my skin.  Got boned by some guy on ebay on a bicycle last year - had a broken frame and I got screwed.  Wouldn't even accept it when I returned it and feebay/paypal didn't stand behind me.  Bought it on a debit card and my bank wouldn't either.

Wow you're lucky you found out about the dent in that, I wouldn't buy it either.

Man, some people can be so scummy when it comes to money >:(

No expert either, but bet that would not have passed the visual inspection, to be able to do a hydro test.  Good call, you saved yourself a big headache.

Did you see my post there pleading him for the love of God not to try to push it onto some poor buyer?

So did he disclose the fact it was damaged from the start, or after buttering you up is the question?

only as we were closing the deal

That's not good.  If he waited until nearing the sealing of the deal then he may not have kept to his word about refunding money.

Never know, might be a man of his word.  Still to load on me the task of getting something obviously badly damaged tested and then returned when/if it fails a visual, which everyone said it would.  Then there's shipping costs, who pays for that?

It was going to be a bad deal, fortunately he disclosed and I was able to find the other post where it was discussed for real.

He may or may not be legit, but he should sell for far cheaper, IMHO.

No way  would I accept that tank...And you shouldnt either.

He needs to get it hydro'd if it can be.  He may have already tried and was denied and hoped you'd get someone more lax on their visual.  This still doesn't sound like a kosher sale.  He needs to get it hydro'd on his time/dollar.  Then sell it cheap.  Odds are he will no do such thing...or can't, being as it's compromised.

Ain't no body gonna hydro that in the first place. He need to paint it red and hang it a tree and shoot at it. Once empty of course.

I have no idea either way.  Look at his second pic, it doesn't look as bad as the first.  Was it perhaps only the gel and fibers are still intact?

I saw the thread where he dropped the tank (was in an unrelated thread to the tank) and thought to myself, what a bonehead move! Either keep the tank in service and assume liability / risk on YOU with a compressor or trash it. Very simple and ethical decision..

I saw that thread too... my first thought was how lucky he was that sucker didn't blow.

I saw him that original posting and it had no mention of the damage.

A whopping $50 off new....scammer.

ETA: pending review, if one is ever done, there may have been a misunderstanding as I don't think OP knew that Fuko had 2 tanks.  Doesn't mean an attempted scam didn't take place.  Just sayin'...

I really don’t want to get in a ^*%$#@ match with anyone.
I had some money in my paypal account from selling some ATV tires that day and thought I could wrangle a deal.  I’ve made good deals before on stuff.
Since it’s not happening, let’s not worry too much about it.

Good thing is that it's not happening and you've made the point that we should all be aware that this kinda garbage exists.
Thanks for that.

Fuko started his for sale thread 6 days before his supposed "dropped" thread.  2 days after his "dropped" thread he mentions he's selling the one NOT dropped.  He did state he has 2 tanks in the "dropped" thread....

His retort to my negative feedback "dots" AGN uses...

"Aww comon man i told the dude about the thread and sent pictures. He offered me 400$ for the new tank i have and i just offered him the cracked tank because he was far below my sought price. I even offered a refund if it failed inspection. Im getting it inspected now too. So please can you not dock me accuracy for this?"

Is FukoChan legit?

Monstermaxx, I think you may have jumped the gun on this one and you didn't realize he had 2 identical tanks?

There was no mention of two tanks anywhere in our conversation until I searched out his name, found his other threads and read it in the damaged tank thread.  That was not disclosed at any time.  Certainly not that the community labeled the tank as junk.

He offered to 'split' the shipping with me which he estimated at $50 and have me test the tank.  So half the shipping to me, shipping to a hydro facility for inspection and shipping back from them would have been the least I was adding to the $400.

Not a good deal even w/o it maybe being junk.  Then who's going to pay all that shipping?  Him?

I'm out on this one, will either buy new or someone else's.  For now, I'll continue using my steel scuba tank.

On my old Fire dept. we would have removed that tank from service. They used to send then back and the company would check to see if they could refurbish the unit.

I have faith in what Keith says as he's the one in another thread who explained the abuse firemen put these through and that they're tougher than most give them credit for.

Thanks Bizill,

I only know what we did to them we always used Scott bottles and they were though. But any damage like seen on this bottle would need checking by the mfg. And would definitely be taken out of service.

Okay, this thread has been locked by staff pending admin review.
Well, here I am reviewing.
Posted Fact - the seller dropped and possibly damaged the cylinder.
Posted Fact - several have said they SAW a post on AGN where he was discussing the possible integrity of the cylinder.
Posted Fact - the seller DID disclose the cylinder was dropped and damaged BEFORE the deal was sealed.
So, where's the fraud here? He posted in public that the cylinder had been dropped and possibly damaged. And even made it known to the buyer BEFORE any funds were exchanged.
And the seller has stated that IF the cylinder does not pass inspection and hydro certification, he would refund the money.
Now I have to ask, WHAT is the problem? WHY slander someone needlessly?
Have the cylinder inspected and hydro tested. Or find out from an official D.O.T. inspector if it is still serviceable. Especially BEFORE throwing someone under the bus!!!!!!
And before you ask him a chance to take the cylinder back and refund. Or did I miss something where you have already asked him for that?
Now I have a new membership application waiting from a fellow that will most certainly want to tell his side and defend his position. I can't knowingly open the door to a feud. So I suggest you have the cylinder inspected and tested if possible. And if it's unserviceable AND the seller will not do as he claimed, then you have something to complain about. And can post in the Buyers, Sellers and Traders Gate. But FACTS only. No slanderous remarks formed by opinion.
Communicate with the seller.....please.
Ya'll have a great evening.
