Today, I had the regulator pulled from my Ninja 90 ci tank. On the regulator the bottom three threads appear damaged. The man who removed it for me, showed me how several regulators would not seat in the tank to the ORING by hand. He felt the regulators bottom threads were caught in the tank threads.
Now the question. To clean out the tank thread, can a use a tap to clear the tank threads? After doing some research it would appear to be a 5/8 X 18 UKN tap, is this correct?

Yes, that is the correct tap.... After cleaning up the tank threads, inspect them with a loupe to make sure they are not damaged.... Small imperfections well down from the top (O-ring) should not be an issue, but you want a good 1/2" of perfect threads, IMO.... Make sure you clean out any debris afterwards, any swarf in the tank could quickly ruin your regulator....

Finally got the initials after the size correct. I found the tap at Ace Hardware. Did it this afternoon, took it slow and easy. Threads look great, now to get a regulator for it.
