Title: Hatsan Hercules with cf airtank?
Post by: Leon on July 19, 2017, 06:20:52 PM

Hello,

Has anyone tried to put Carbon fiber airbottles on a Hatsan Hercules?
I am interested if it is possible?
I think the cf bottle of Talon tunes would fit but i am not sure.
Have anyone have seen or try this yet?

I thought about that, , but I'm not sure the threads in the cf bottles will be compatible, & that's if the cf bottle's OD is the same or similar. Might even be able to go a little bigger, at least on the forward one. But an adapter should remedy the thread issue if there is one. And using cf bottles should allow for a 300 bar operating pressure if the hammer could be adjusted to open the valve at 4500 psi instead of the usual 250 bar. Best benefit to using cf bottles on the Hercules would be the weight savings, that gun is anything but light.

Keep us updated, I for one will be watching to see your progress.

I looked into that, and the threads are the same. The hatsan has M18x1.5 thread, the same as the cf bottles of talontunes. The main reason for me is the weight reduction.
I'am thinking also about a carbon fibre stock, but first see how the bottles go.

Will this work on the Hatsan Nova too?

You can see the thread size on the bottle.
I think its also M18x1.5

Try an image hosting website, which I believe others from Netherlands have access.

Okay, here we go!!!! If you have any questions feel free to reply.
Hope you enjoy.

And the first thing you do is empty the bottles.
Shoot it dry empty until it reach 50 bar and then the valve opens and you will hear the rest of the air escaping from the bottles.

The stock has one bold in the center.

The leather around the bottle is an old belt.

So the steel/alu bottles are removed. The new cf bottles from talon are a little bit thicker around the neck so i must remove a bit of material from the inside of the stock to make it fit.

Now we gonna test fit the new bottles to the stock.

When you fit the bottles to the gun you must use the old seals because the seals thats come with the talon bottles won't fit.

And now the hardest part, making the buttstock fit the bottle.
I spend the most time on this to make a perfect fit.

Here is the result. The mounting of the hugget magna silencer and the making of a carbon shroud is another project for another time......

The balance of the gun is now outstanding. First i found it a bit front heavy, but now the weight is right in the middle of the gun. The only thing i didn't like was the cf bottles are only 480 cc, so i will be missing 40 cc in total. I must do a stringshot to see how much shots this cost me.

Excellent job. Congrats on a job well executed.

And don't worry about the lowered reservoir volume. It's not by much when you consider the weight savings, and if those bottles are rated to 4500 PSI, what few shots you may have lost in volume you can regain with a higher fill pressure.

Very cool.  I am pretty sure you broke ground with this project.  Is the hugget noticably quieter than the standard QE shroud??  Did you lose or gain accuracy by losing the shorud?  Did I say this was really cool??  Nice work.

THIS is what the air guns are all about to me!!  Nice work!  Do you have a before and after weight of the gun?  I'm betting some folks with Novas are playing very close attention to this  ;)

Yes, the hugget is noticably quieter than the QE shroud. I shot it inside only so i can't tell you yet how its working outside and what the accuracy will be over long distance. I keep you posted.

I am making a new shroud out of carbon fiber that fit between the silencer and the receiver. I think when you don't have any shroud the accuracy will be effected.

On the hercules the weight reduction is 0.8kg or 1 lb 12.6 oz.
But because of the weight balance the gun feels much less heavy.

Thanks.
This bottles are rated at 3625 psi/250 bar. So i get less shots out of the bottles. But i think thats worth the weight reduction.

Too bad, but at least it's only a 40 cc  reduction, so hopefully not many shots lost.
Wonder who'll be the first to apply this to a Barrage, & if Hatsan will  take the hint.

I hope so too. I also wanted to make a carbon fiber stock but the factory stock is so light i leave it. They must made the bottles of the same stuff.......very light.

How's the Hercules holding up with the cf bottles?

It seams  that  bottle fitting/connecting  is the same as at my Puncher Pitbull project which is good info for me. It  should probably  possible to use also the same air pressure regulator
for Hercules bully .

Has anyone understand/know  why Hercules has so big power ?
Is it only because shooting air pressure is higher ?
