Title: 4,500 psi non carbon fiber tanks
Post by: Sprungout on July 10, 2017, 02:29:29 PM
I noticed the smaller sizes 13ci up to 26ci are now going up to 4,500 psi with just thicker aluminum and no wrapping. Naturally they are not DOT approved, but is this something we may see over here soon? They are dirt cheap compared to CF, and could really extend the shot count on bottle guns.

For the same internal volume, they will be significantly heavier.... In addition, you don't get as much air for the additional 1500 psi between 3000 - 4500 as you did between 1500 - 3000.... so if your gun was regulated at 1500 psi you would get an 80% increase in shot count instead of double the shots.... If they were still under 2" in diameter like the 13 - 22 CI 3000 psi tanks, you would not need repeated hydro tests.... but the lack of some proper marking could cause a problem getting them filled commercially....

Thanks Bob, I always enjoy your advice. They are listed as weighing 500 grams and 60mm in diameter so definitely over the 2" rule. It's getting harder to sift through all the tank options out there, and deciding what is safe if a person chooses to overlook DOT when doing home fills. The Chinese really like creating gray areas...
