I am picking up my Maximus Monday, and was wondering, besides cleaning the barrel , is there anything I should do to it before I pump it up and start shooting it? It may sound like a mundane question, but I just want to make sure there is nothing I have to do to it, as I have never owned one of these before.

Between now and Monday, do a search and read all the threads you can about Maximus. There are a few things you may want to do to make it quieter, smooth out trigger, etc. Then have fun!

Check the gauge before doing anything.. A lot of guns are shipped with some degree of pressure these days.

Cole, when my Maximus .22 arrived, I cleaned the barrel, pumped it to 2,000 PSI, mounted a scope, set up a target, and started sighting it in. No problems with it until near the end of the squirrel season. At the end of February, I noticed it was leaking a little air. I cleaned and re-wrapped the gauge and fill nipple with white teflon tape and it is good to go again.
Happy shooting.
Oh, one more thing: My rifle likes the JSB 15.89 gr pellets best.

Mine had 1000 psi upon arrival. Holds forever. Nothing really needed to get it going. But check this for a trigger tune (you can get a hardware store spring that can be cut to work - I started with a spring 1.55" long, 0.185" diameter, and 0.020" wire)

:D Thanks all. I'm not looking to modify this , (just yet ;), LOL). I was just wondering if there was any prelims I should do before I started pumping air and shooting lead. I searched the forum about this gun, saw a lot of positive stuff, but nothing about setting it up the first time. At the price point I bought this gun I figured I couldn't go wrong, as I was wanting to build a Disco type carbine this winter. I figured this would be a good gun to learn about this type of Crosman platform, as it shares a lot of common parts with the Disco, and the same operational procedures. That build will be a separate thing as I want to use Disco/22xx parts. Once again thank you for the input.

Cole, this was my thread/review from the beginning - if it will help in your build. June 2016 The Benjamin Maximus .22 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=110457.0)

Lube the bolt also

When you get aggravated with the stock trigger pick up one of these from Baker Airguns. It'll transform your trigger from pretty lousy to very nice for a paltry 22 bucks. The Disco and Max triggers are the same.
Enjoy your new gun!

Well I pumped it up for the first time yesterday to check for leaks, and it did leak down rather fast. Took it out of the stock and teflon taped the gauge and fill port and pumped it up to 1500 today to see if it leaks down. So far no leaks. If it keeps pressure over night ,tomorrow I will pump it up the rest of the way and sight it in. LOL I have so many guns that I can wait till tomorrow, the joys of this are unending.
