Title: Is this normal for a PCP?
Post by: crittahitta on June 27, 2017, 12:54:28 AM
Hi. I was upstate NY target shooting all weekend. One day I went out to look for red squirrels. I loaded my  3 month old Condor SS .25 cal and walked around for about an hour. When I was able to shoot i pulled the trigger and the shot was extremely weak. Sounded like the hammer spring didn't have the strength to open the valve fully. So I reloaded and shot again and it was normal. It can't be spring fatigue already???Can it? Any suggestions?

i'm not familiar with the Condor's setup but a similar thing happened to my P-Rod.

I'd cock it and it felt fine but when I'd shoot, i'd get a very weak shot.

Turns out the screws holding the trigger assembly to the body of the gun were loose. As a result, the hammer would hang up on the sear and not slam into the valve.

I took the gun apart and that's when I discovered the rear screw was loose. tightened everything, cleaned and lubed the appropriate parts then put it back together and it's back in it's #1 spot.

my condor did the same thing if i left it cocked for a while.

so i just would load it and decock,
or only push the breech open enough to load without cocking the gun until i was ready to shoot.

another possibility if you filled to your max pressure inside then went outside during a hot day, your pressure will rise from the ambient heat and sunlight causing slight valve lock. I learned this the hard way and missed an albino squirrel because of my shot being 300 fps slower than expected. that was almost two years ago and I'm still looking for another one.  good luck with your rifle.

No it is not regulated. Im starting to think the hammer/cocking spring was loaded too long and didn't have the same thrust when the trigger was pulled. I wish i could load the gun then de cock it when I'm walking the woods. starlingassassin, how do you de cock it?
