Title: Trevox
Post by: Darinjfry on June 24, 2017, 02:54:45 AM
So does anybody have their hands on a umarex trevox pistol yet? Thoughts on it and would it have enough power for squirrels out to say 20 yards?

There have been a couple folks on here who ordered one.  We should be seeing some reviews soon.  I'm also interested in hearing some real world reviews!

Darin,

Got my Trevox mid-summer and have been busy with break-ins, pellet selections, practicing and yes, some Accurizing!

Now that I've caught my breath and have got a good feel for the Trevox (and others), posted my 1st thoughts HERE (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=127180.msg1274771#msg1274771), follow ups HERE (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=127180.msg1280984#msg1280984), and comments on my recent trigger work to the Trevox, HERE (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=127180.msg1315895#msg1315895) !

Not sure if the Trevox would carry enough energy for squirrels out to 20yds? I've not shot outside with it yet, just in my indoor workshop range. However, it handles well, FO sights are good and fit and finish is also good. After yesterdays trigger work, finding it very accurate and easy to cock and load!

Hope this info isn't too late for you, but being new to air gunning, took my time to try things out and develop the little knowledge I have!

Ted

Accuracy and enough power. A variety of these big air pistols in springer/rammer from China have been producing as much to a bit less power than the P1/HW45, P5/5G
Magnum, LP8 Magnum. Those pistols when 'healthy' in .177 produce about 5-5.5 FPE at the muzzle. Those big Turkish springer/rammer pistols when 'healthy' in .177
can go 6ish to 7ish FPE. A Crosman 1377 'healthy' on 10 pumps will go 5ish to 6ish FPE at the muzzle.
One of the problems so many guys miss on the springer/rammer pistols (even new out of the box) is a breech seal leak. A simple shimming and/or o-ring or shaped
seal replacement will add anywhere from 20 to over 100 fps MV!

A airgun shooting a domed/pointed .177 pellet at 5 FPE at the muzzle can kill a squirrel at 60 feet with a solid head shot (not a steep angled graze or smack on the
side of the snout). Most AG guys I'd say prefer at least a couple more FPE than 5 at the muzzle for squirrel. Some that aren't real AG knowledgable think all AG hunting
and pesting starts at 20 FPE and an airgun that costs at least $700 or more. And then there's the stories of big fox squirrels that just wouldn't go down after several
hits with .22 LR rimfire! LOL Those guys best stick to shotguns! ACCURACY and enough power.

My Trevox will put a Crosman premier 7.9 threw both sides of a tin can at 11 yards and punch clean holes.  Still not a 20 yard Squirrel gun but has been fun in the back yard.

Just noticed on the german gate a reported 498 feet per sec with jsb 8.4 gr out of a LP8. I think that is about what I get out of the trevox.  I am shooting open sights so I can not compair accuracy.  I do think the LP8 has it in the looks department.

A number of HW45/P1s and LP8s are falling short of what the best or 'healthiest' versions can do or produce powerwise for various reasons from breech seal leak to
weaker or broken main spring. There is a bit more power to be had from even a decent factory spec LP8 but not from the already at max HW45.

Recently purchased a Swiss Arms Mod-fire (Chinese springer pistol with shoulder stock) .177 and after giving it a little attention it is shooting H&N FTT 8.64 gr. at
470ish fps MV. .5-.75 inch 5 shot groups at 50 feet are doable without to much effort using a mounted 3 MOA red-dot sight. Full both side penetration of Progresso
soup cans at 50 feet too. I use to refer to them as "real cans" because so many guys would say this or that air pistol would penetrate a soda pop or beer can. Heck
a Daisy lever action BB spitter will do that. LOL
