Is it that tough to cock? I just bought the pair off the yellow. Too many P17 threads over the years I finally had to bite the pellet. I just think he's a soft hand Canadian hipster.

It's not that tough to cock, it's just awkward.  I had been thinking of something to help and this is exactly what I was thinking.

So far not impressed with either P17's. The one shoots intermittently which I've got the trigger parts out. The other doesn't group that well. Tried RWS basic, Gamo hunters, Predator GTO's (lead free), and superdomes. The superdomes grouped the best, but it still wouldn't cover a quarter at 10m. Cleaned out the barrels, may try the other barrel and see if maybe that one is better.

That is a cool mod and would make the gun much more fun to shoot. Pinching your hand or shirt in it gets old. Looking forward to your review.

Rob, try the H&N coated wadcutters. Mine gives me pinky nail sized groups at 14 yards with them. Crosman wadcutters do well. They just have an occasional flyer.
Also, they both seem to prefer slightly looser fitting pellets.

I think it would make my P17s safer for younger shooters, as well as myself!

Gonna think about this a bit..

The kit came with the arm, which is made from two pieces of powder coated aluminum and a cast resin block, four screws, an Allen wrench and a piece of two sided tape.

You will need a drill, 1/16" bit, 1/8" bit, a scribe and a center punch.

Position the device and hold in place with the provided two sided tape. The angle of the arms and block are the same as the pistol so it's a near perfect fit.

Scribe the location of the hole then remove the device. Locate the center and mark with a center punch. Drill a pilot hole then the screw hole. It's important to use the center punch and pilot hole to accurately place the screw hole.

Thread the hole. I was tempted to tap the hole but decided to follow directions and just thread it in. The plastic is soft yet ridgid  so don't over tighten  or you'll strip the hole.

Mount the device and repeat with the  other set of holes then reattach being careful not to over tighten the screws

The device does what it's designed for and cocking is much easier.  No more pinched fingers or getting your shirt caught in the gun.
The P17 is very  light but the arm actually improved balance for me. It would clearly get in the way of using a pellet pen but I'm sure the brainpower in this forum could figure a way to mod the mod.

Thanks for the wonderful write up and pics, Kent! Got answers to my questions from Dan (creator of slide extender), but had another for you.

Is there enough room to easily activate the hammer lock between it and the back palm sleeve?
Or is this area somewhat restrictive to opening the receiver breech with a thumb (need at least 1" of clearance)!

Other than that, it looks really cool and the operational concept is brilliant...as you stated, should greatly assist safely cocking the P17! Looks like Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/515096762/air-pistol-slide-extender-custom?from_reg=2&joined=register-header&box=1) has them in stock!

I use the index finger of the hand that I use to cock. It's quite natural with the index finger. The thumb doesn't comfortably fit between the block and the hammer.

Thanks Kent! Makes sense...will be an easy adjustment!

Till now, I always thought that the people who pinch themselves cocking the P17 were, err... a little clumsy. ;D
Reading those posts just made me want to have some fun and shoot a few pellets.
So guess what happened (for the 1rst time, I swear it)  : I DID IT  :o
Well, not really painful, but unpleasant . Now I feel stupidly cautious when cocking.

I have one(cocking aid) coming in this week for my P-17.
Both that I bought from Amazon, about a year ago, came in fine shape and shooting quite well at 12 yards.
I did do an overhaul with orings which help all around fps etc.
It favors the RWS pellets.

I've never pinched my hand but I did get my shirt caught in between the lever and frame. Couldn't pull the shirt out... and the lever wouldn't open (too much stress on the latch because of the shirt). The gun was loaded... of course... and stuck to my shirt!  :o

Haven't done that stunt again, LOL

Yves,

Don't fret (for too long)...looks just like mine, except I use my right hand to cock the receiver! Done it once...Once!  :-[

With a red dot reflex scope installed, I now use my fingers to push down the side lips of the top receiver, but feel the "mentioned cocking aid above" will solve All Ills (and pinches)!   ;)

I don't appreciate red dots that much, so I'll keep cautious ;D. Anyway, if we ever happen to meet in an airport, we'll be able to  show our hands as a rally sign (I'm currently reading WW1 stories ...)

To Wyoman : if there's any film maker among the GTA members, check his next production and ask for royalties : it's just a marvelous gag ! It could have happened to me, but it didn't. Why ? Sometimes I feel lucky.

Yeak P17 in the shirt, why I put a solid scope mount and pistol scope on mine, though I do like the carbine stock option I have seen for the P17's ritcher brother.

My 15 year old nephew and his girlfriend were shooting my p17, he was having some issues closing the gun.
On one instance, he accidentally clamped it on his left nipple.

He was dancing a jig, with the gun hanging on.
His girlfriend and I were laughing.

He wasn't happy..

I saw the youtube which shows him using the slide extender but I noticed that he didn't really
show a full compression stroke. He just lifted the slide up and then closed it. I have never
pinched my chest or hand but I have pinched my shirt once. I just opened the slide again to
release my shirt. For those of you who have bought it and used it does the extra leverage
help in easing the cocking effort or is this just a mod to reduce pinching? My main gripe is
that it is hard to cock for some kids and my daughter also says that it is too hard to cock.
She has no trouble cocking my FWB 80.

That looks interesting.  I personally have never pinched myself.  First off, just open sites for me.  The issue that I had/have is the edge of the scope groves are too sharp and after 20 shots, started to hurt.  I took the sharp edges off as well as I could which helped.  Still the solution for me, is to just use a glove on that hand, not for pinching, but because after 100 shots, my hand gets sore as in really sore.

My gun is stock, except I did debur the piston air hole, resealed with better o-rings throughout the gun and shimmed the breech o-ring to get a better fit.  Oh yeah, also glued the rear site nut in place which stops it from changing during cocking.  With a good piston o-ring it noticeably increased the force required to cock it.  As a reference, I think it is shooting RWS match R-10 8.2gr around 410fps if I remember correctly.

Love the P17 as it shoots far better than me.  It is fun to get into the zone and shoot 50 shots inside a 1/2 hole at 10 yards.  That is not an exaggeration.  I think besides the piston breather hole tearing the o-ring the only other issue I've had is that trigger needed some shimming because it locked up and wouldn't fire.

It reduces cocking effort. It's additional leverage.
