Title: Which bullpup?
Post by: Hunt4dinner on May 24, 2017, 03:04:01 PM
A friend of mine is in the market for a high end bullpup or semi bullpup design air rifle. He has his eye on the impact in .25 cal right now but are there other good options? Mutant, cricket or anything else? Figured I'd ask because I'm sure some of you have one or more of these and would know better than I would.

They lack bling ... but honestly they are one of if not the best built & shooting pups one can buy

Looks aren't everything in most cases! I know he wants a reliable straight shooter that will last. He likes the idea of the changing of barrels on the impact so that's why he's leaning towards it. Figured I'd help him out and ask around. Who knows I may even buy one of these lol

Research and READ before purchasing an IMPACT !
There are some who praise them with many more who don't.
As stated, looks and bling etc ... do not necessarily make for the better gun.

Definitely don't want to rush a 1200$ or more purchase that's for sure. I was also looking at a matador also.

I shot a wildcat, and then went and bought a mutant. No regrets.

+1 for the veteran if you need a .25...still recommend a .22 mutant...

I love my  rti arms priest in .25 a little loud but built like a tank and way more accurate than me. Love forward cocking handle. ;D
Have not shot any other bullpup

FX Wildcat.  Light, very very well made, very accurate and loves to be shot.   Smoothest side lever and trigger I've felt.  Almost 30 FPE with JSB 18.13 .22 at 875 fps.  Love it love it love it.

There's also AT Vulcan, they generally get very good reviews and they are front cockers. Priest is a good option if you like the super soaker style  ;)

Based on all the reviews, youtube videos, blogs, sites ....

When I grow up (in PCP years - is it like dog years?) This I know: I want an FX Impact!

Having said that, my Bullboss does fine for I want (had to say that in case it is reading this post .....)

Keep shooting ...

I like that keeps the scope nice and low also

Don't rule out the Brocock Compatto or Bantam They are the perfect balance between bullpup and rifle:

My .177 Compatto w/Baracuda Hunters has grounded quite a few nutters:

The .25 Compatto/Bantam are not a full power (50 FPE) one, but somewhere between 30 and 40 FPE, I think. It's also a bit longer, but that's needed to get .25s up to speed without wasting a lot of air.

Ataman's are AWESOME.  I get to see one in action when I go out with Baxter Walton; sooo accurate.  Hits HARD.  And the wood is soooo pretty.  Been dreaming about the .357 when I sleep at night...

All good opinions and ideas and I appreciate them all. My buddy will be up to the cabin with me all weekend so we'll have time to look into all of these. He mentioned a couple days ago that he was leaning towards the wildcat but not dead set on it. We'll see!

Don't rule out the Brocock Compatto or Bantam They are the perfect balance between bullpup and rifle:
  • No trigger or cocking lever linkages needed
  • No need to lower the gun or to reach back by your ear to cock it
  • Ultra-smooth action
  • No need for an ultra-high scope mount/extreme cant sensitivity as on full bullpups
The .25 Compatto/Bantam are not a full power (50 FPE) one, but somewhere between 30 and 40 FPE, I think. It's also a bit longer, but that's needed to get .25s up to speed without wasting a lot of air.

I like those Brococks, looks like it would do everything I like and want ....  next on my list (saving pennies to get there!) And it comes with a Huggett ... oooh

That Caliber mini would be at the top of my list.

Wish I still had my Cricket. Wasn't the new kid on the block, but four mags at 50fpe and very accurate.  A very solidly built pup.
