My current go-to pellet in my .177 Marauder is the JSB Exact Heavies. I am currently shooting these at 860 fps, and on a calm day I can consistently shoot 1/2" groups at 30 yards and 1" groups at 50 yards.
However, I am not particularly impressed with the pellet's performance in wind. I would like to try some pellet with a higher ballistic coefficient so I can buck the wind better. Have any of you tried JSB Exact Monster .177 cal in your Marauder? How accurate are they, and how well do they shoot in the wind? What velocity are you shoot the Monsters at?
Thanks!

You also might want to look at H&N Sniper Magnums but their 15 gr, They are supposed to have higher ballistic coefficient.

You're doing about 17 foot pounds with the 10.3's, which is a pretty nice balance for most .177 shooting and those 10.3's are a pretty good BC already. Unless you were to retune the rifle, would end up going a good bit slower with the 13.4gr. JSB's (more like 760-780fps) or the 16.1gr. JSBs (more like 685-695fps) which would make trajectory kind of sucky, and not really show a mega-bonus in windage (but you would deliver more energy down range even at the lower initial speeds).
On the other hand, if shooting targets, paintballs, or spinners at a known set range (not like they are going to run off...they'll always stay at that range), could find a little bit of help with unknown wind speeds.
The 15gr. H7N's are worth a try. Haven't found as many rifles that like them as I have with the two JSB's, but when a barrel does like them, are an excellent heavy weight choice.

Been shooting the Monster 13.43's this year and 1/2 of last with much success ...
BOTH my M-rod and Tm-100 love em at @ 800 fps !!
1/2" at 50 yards is common

Old test, but the one I have the best documetation for.
Have had a BAM 51 .22 for some time, and thought I'd pick up a BAM 50 .177 before they were totally out of US stock (so it's one of the last 2 or 3 from Flying Dragons).
.177 BAM 50 the bottom rifle:
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/ribbonstone/BAM51/c7769df8-2dbb-46d6-9d0e-ec32fe9e0e10.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/ribbonstone/media/BAM51/c7769df8-2dbb-46d6-9d0e-ec32fe9e0e10.jpg.html)
Wanted to cank it up and get some big energy from .177, so turned to heavy weights. Decided on a "soft tune" (about 20%less than absulute max).
I excluded the lighter 10.3 and 10.6gr pellets as they didn't seem to really like going 1050-1075fps. Would just toss out a way away flier at these epepds every now and agin (and I really don't think that's all that unusual once speeds high enough).
So I stuck the heavier weights that would stay under 950fps.
At 25 yards, wasn't enough difference between the top four pellets to really make a judgement.
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/ribbonstone/BAM51/caefbb3f-cafd-412a-a9f6-b490861c3928.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/ribbonstone/media/BAM51/caefbb3f-cafd-412a-a9f6-b490861c3928.jpg.html)
So I tested them a few more times at 25 yards, with pretty much the same results (they swapped places, buyt the best 4 were still in the best 4).
Kind of a flawed test, as I had to order more EunJins, which would be from a different lot from my old EunJins, so I just left them out of testing and went with the top 3.
Went to 50 yards with the 3 most likely candiates from the 25 yard tests. Can see some fiddinling around was down duing the 50 yard shooting in order to get them pretty much "on trarget".
Once asjusted to "on" wasn't really a rat's rump of difference between the three.
(http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/ribbonstone/BAM51/ca780cdc-a377-4ea1-98aa-4fdd898fdac5.jpg) (http://s157.photobucket.com/user/ribbonstone/media/BAM51/ca780cdc-a377-4ea1-98aa-4fdd898fdac5.jpg.html)
So moved the same target back to 75 yards and gave each a 5-shot try (which is the lower group).
Can make some trajectory estimates from the drop between 50 and 75 yards, but it pretty well follows velocity. Windage didn't play much in this, as it was one of those days where the wind just died.
POINT OF ALL OF THIS:
Most often it just takes distance to see what a pellet wants to do at distance; all the short range shooting really isn't as predictive of what that same pellet will do at long range as I would like.
The speed advanatage of the 13.4gr. pellet is stil evident in the drop. It's not a great big hairry deal, holding 1 3/4 mil dots over isn't really any easier than holding 2 1/4 mil dots over (which really isn't much more than the diameter of the mil dot in difference).

Incredible Beast and Monsters .177 accuracy at 75 yards. From my AA S 510 carbine they start spiraling at 35 yard approximately.
Do you have some details info about barrel bore ?

Thank you all for your data and advice! The next time I order pellets I'll try out the JSB Monsters and see how they do.
Straight Shooting!

I do have .177's that won't shoot them real well.
Can get a good Chinese made barrel, it wouldn't be the first time....but there are also some that I did have to rebarrel.
Had hopes that rifle would shoot the Piledrivers (which really do have an amazing BC for a pellet).....but you can't force feed a barrel what you want it to shoot; the rifle basically scattered/key holed them.
Never had that barrel off the action (it's a BAM...so it's GLUED in), but have given it as close a study as I could. No tight spots, loose spots, or rough areas. No choke detected. No burrs at the transfer port. Looks like Mike touched up the crown slightly before he shipped it. Might be a touch tighter than some other .177's from the feel of chambering some type of pellets. Long pellets will show rifling on the head from just being chambered, so perhaps a short throat.
(that last is variable...uses a bolt probe....so the probe enters the hollow base of the pellet...so if the base is really deeply hollowed, the head of the pellet isn't seated as deeply into the barrel.)

It would be interesting to check retained velocity and fpe at 50 and 75 yards. I need to check which B50 is the most accurate with the heavies before I rebarrel one of them.

From a few years ago shot from my factory barrel marauder.

No choke detected.
Thanks for sharing your barrel inspection. Huben K1 version v2. also use un chocked LW barrel.
Twist rate for .22 caliber is 16,4”.

New shaping Monsters are only available yet at .22 caliber ?

Now THAT is interesting.... The new 34 gr. Beast in .22 cal has a similar shape.... I had a feeling that JSB were going away from the cylindrical center section in favour of a fully tapered skirt (with a longer taper) and it looks like that may indeed be the case.... The previous 25.4 gr. Monsters were not great in many guns, although they did shoot well in my B-51 at 950 fps.... I hope the redesigned ones will be better overall....

Redesigned Monster and Beast pellets will be available also at caliber .177 .

Peter
do you know when the .177 redesigned monsters will be available to us ?
soon i hope ;D

Have you found that different pellets at different weights shoot well at a particular velocity?
Just curious because you mentioned they shoot well at 950fps.

Well, I just received a tin of JSB Monsters in .177 Cal. I took my Marauder out to compare The JSB Monsters with the JSB Heavies (10.3gr). At 25 yards, the Heavies did slightly better than the Monsters (0.6" verses 0.7" ctc). At 40 yard the Heavies did much better than the Monsters (0.75" ctc verses 1.5"). These were 10-shot groups in a 5 mph cross wind.
I was really hoping that the Monsters would do better. I chronied the rifle at 880 fps with the Heavies yesterday. I have not chronied the Monsters, yet, but I estimate that they had a MV of about 780 fps. I really can't go much higher, since I am restricted to 20 fpe at the muzzle for Hunter Field Target competition, and I would like to keep power to 19 fpe to be on the safe side.

Fred,
The same as from my AA S510. 1.77 Monster start spiraling at 35-50 yards.
At 80 yard the grouping is about 5"-15" .
-
I am not able shoot beyond 40 yards, but my 10 shot groups at that range are typically about an inch with several shots falling into a single hole. I shoot from a dilapidated bench with just my bipod with no rear rest, so I feel pretty good about that. I am shooting them a bit faster though - right about 900-910 FPS - and accuracy is good enough for chipmunk sniping out to 40 yards in my book. They do knock the snot out of the little buggers.

Not to dig up an old thread, but I was searching for info on the JSB Beasts in .177 and found this thread :).
I’m new to airgunning, but my experience is reflective of what other users are seeing. Shooting for a sandbag standing on my back deck I’m consistently 1” CTC at 50 yards with my .177 Synthetic Marauder with LW barrel, box stock and half a turn on the hammer pretension. At 50 yards the Beasts are solidly penetrating 5/4 deck boards and if I stack the pellets it goes right through. I’ve only tested out to 63 yards, but it’s on the docket to go to a range and push them out to 100 yards. Anyone with a stock marauder non-regulated in .177 take it out to 100 yards yet? 63 yards was only slightly worse than my 50 yard results. No chrony, but I’ll borrow one soon to get some speed results.
