Title: Donny Fl Sumo Moderator
Post by: ancient1one on May 13, 2017, 02:33:47 PM
My 25 Cricket is shooting 63+ FPE and without a moderator was borderline backyard friendly. The first moderator I tried was a 6" inch by 1.25 OD CF unit. It quieted down the Cricket enough for me to shoot in my yard without attracting attention but was still a little loud on my ears after a full day of shooting.
I contacted Donny Fl to see if he had a moderator that could get the sound down. Donny said your in luck I just design an all metal(aluminum) LDC called the Sumo that will drop the report down for sure.
A week later the Sumo arrived and the first thing I noticed was the build quality, the threads were metal(not east to strip) as were the air chambers that was wrapped in felt inside the LDC. The next weekend my buddy Matt(mcoulter) asked me to come over for some shooting inside his shooting shed. I figured what better place to test sound than inside a 10 x 12 shed.
Matt and I took turns testing. Its easier to hear the difference in sound when you stand to the side and behind the gun when someone is shooting. The Sumo was the quietest to both Matt and myself. The biggest difference was in the high notes, the Sumo removed most of the snap and crack sound.
The biggest proof too the Sumo's effectiveness was Matts dog(Jasper) he usually hangs out with us when we shoot. Before adding a moderator to the Cricket he would be startled with each shot. With the 6 inch CF his ears would come up with each shot but with the Sumo attached Jasper had little to no reaction.
If your looking for a well made LDC with threads that will not strip I highly recommend the Sumo.

Did you gentlemen see Donny now has available the Ronin and Shogun? For those who need even more, yet again we're given options. I have no use for anything other than my Sumo, but if I ever go with a .30 then I'm getting one of them for sure. They come in .25 and .30. Sure, either would tame my Taipan even further, but for me, it's already so quiet that I'm perfectly content.

Actually, because my eye is beginning to twitch after reading Donny's site, I may just give one of my Sumo's to my son and try out a Ronin or maybe a Shogun.
Now I'm starting to dislike Donny's options as it seems I can't seem to stay content when the newest and best comes out. I sure hope Taipan doesn't come out with an updated Veteran as I just bought mine. What do we call that? Uprgraditis?

Yup, I got problems. I had to have all three of them ::) ::) ::)
I actually bought 2 Sumos a few weeks ago, but then of course I see Donny released the Ronin and Shogun, so I added them to my collection. Maybe I should buy 6 more and then I can have my own little bowling alley or another high end gun :P :P
