Title: FX Streamline Magazines Hard to Insert
Post by: Kid Shelleen on May 12, 2017, 07:56:38 PM
I finally got my .22 FX Streamline last week (after waiting four months).  I’ve only shot it a couple of times but both magazines I got with it are ridiculously hard to get into the rifle.  I know they are new and probably need to be “worked in” a little but I have to push so hard I’m afraid they are going to break.  Is anyone else having this issue and does anyone know of a fix?  The magazines on my other rifles like the Daystate Huntsman and Benjamin Marauder slide right in without any issues.  As for the gun itself, I'm happy with it. It looks good, is reasonably accurate and it's light.  The shot count I'm getting seems a little on the low side compared to what I've read.

Have you tried a little bit of lubricant? That might help

Funny I thought it was just mine, I mentioned same thing in one of my other posts re the Streamline 22.

I have an FX magazine, the full size one, from my old fx whisper and it slides right in. The little one that came with streamline is a very tight fit
So it's the mag, it's a tiny bit thicker.

Thanks for the reply Jason.  My son's .22 Streamline mags are also very tight so I guess it's an FX manufacturing glitch for the smaller mags. since your older "large" mags work fine.

Fatmatic, I was thinking about using some kind of lube but wasn't sure which kind.  Maybe a very light application of silicone?  I'm not sure what works best on plastic against metal.  I'm also not really sure where the binding is occurring.

Only problem with lube is it might be slick to handle and a bit hard to push in right if it's slippery at all.  I find it mildly annoying myself mainly because you have to line it up better and make sure to try to prevent the plastic from rotating while you put it in, but it'll probably wear down a bit over time.

Might be something you could polish down just a tiny bit, as well.

If I had to take an educated guess at this I would say that your barrel is not set in the breech properly.
I believe it might be too far in. This will cause issues with the magazine. This is probably your fix.

I would second this.  May need to remove the scope and loosen the barrel set screws in the top of the breech and try the fit until you get it just right and tighten the set screws to hold the barrel.  Be sure to not rotate it and misalign the transfer port.  It shouldn't take but a couple minutes to do this.  I had the same issue on my Royale after removing and installing the barrel.  If I push the barrel into the breech until it bottoms out, its too tight to fit the magazine in.  I believe the Streamline is similar but I could be wrong.  HTH

Sort of off topic, but has anyone tried to machine a different style of magazine for the FX's? I find this one to be sort of a pain in the butt. The air arms style magazine is much easier

Thanks Quigly & Brett.  That's what I noticed too when I was examining where the binding was occurring.  The magazine appeared to be binding on the rear of the barrel inlet (short brass colored metal) where it protrudes from the breech.  There are three grub screws on top of the breech and it appears that the two forward ones anchor the barrel and the third one appears to be anchoring the barrel inlet.  The bottom of the barrel inlet appears to have a small hole that may mate with the holes in the power adjuster that sits below the barrel inlet.  I'm guessing that the three holes in the power adjuster are transfer ports that regulate the amount of air that goes into the barrel inlet.  If I get brave I may try to loosen the three grub screws and see if I can gently move the barrel inlet and barrel forward just a fraction but have no idea if this will misalign the transfer port.  I may just wait until someone more knowledgeable about the Streamline posts something on this subject.

Same problem. The one that came with Streamline worked fine, just like it is suppose to.  I ordered two for spare and they won't fit, sent them back got two more they wont fit either. They are just too thick. One will not even start and the  other one would go in if I hit it with a hammer.  Is this some that is left over from a bad batch, or  don't they know how to make replacement mags?  I sent these two back for a refund.  :(

A Streamline is on my short list for a new PCP. These magazine issues worry me.

You can use the full size ones, they are thinner and work great. But are higher & that is what is nice about the smaller ones, keeping your scope closer to the bore. My Streamline is a great little gun , nice to carry on long woods walks. But a customer should have to modify a 70.00 mag, to make it work in a thousand dollar rifle.
