Hi, folks, as promised, plans are being firmed up for what is going to become an annual event, the annual Baxter Walton Meet and Greet. Last held in early fall of 2015, 2016 got away with the growth of the website, Baxter's own work schedule and customers, customers, customers! Baxter is busy enough, he's asked me to help set this up and here is the pertinent information:
Dates: May 26th, 27th and 28th. The last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this month, we are getting together at the Figueroa Campground in the Los Padres National Forest in California. The easiest way to get there is to go to Google maps and print out directions. We will meet up Friday night between 5 and 7 PM at the campgrounds, get to know each other and plan the following days' hunt. Nothing is being provided, so what you bring is what you get!
It may be nice to have a few friendly competitions, time pending, and I'm working on those as we speak. I have had a few responses and will contact those people separately to fill in.
If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to contact me.
This meet and greet will only be as good as the people that show up. If you have the opportunity, even if you just make it Saturday or Sunday, please make it a point to come out! Airgunners need to support airgunners and Baxter supports a lot of folk. The participation will help us develop the next years' meet and greet and so on. Hopefully we can make it a big deal each year and begin talks of a bigger venue, raffles, vendors; who knows?
Before I forget, Baxter had mentioned to me since we're hunting on public land, you are to have a California Hunting license to do so. We're not checking, but if a ranger comes by, he may. Baxter leads me to believe there is something you can purchase from, say, Big 5, that may cover your for a weekend, but I couldn't find any info.
Really looking forward to this and to meeting any and all who decide to join us!

You must have a hunter safety course to get a license. Many places offer the course on the weekend like Bass Pro Shop. No hunter safety - no license. If you plan to go and don't have a license you may want to get on it. You can get a license the same day you pass the course, at least at Bass Pro.
-
Don't forget to get you outdoor passes for each day that your out there if I
remember correctly they are about 8 dollars a day to be in the national forest .
-
Much thanks to D Rig for keeping us honest! Everyone remember to get passes for the days you're hunting. Any Bass Pro or Big 5 should be able to take care of it...
-
Is the campground first come first serve or do we need to make a reservation?
-
First come first serve, my friend.
-
Not sure if I can get the time off work but would love to come out. Would like to meet more people as I am new to Air Rifles.
-
Please feel free to come out. We're all ready and willing to meet new and old airgunners alike. The more the merrier!
-
Any backstage passes available?
Autographs extra?
LOL
Would like to attend but the title made it sound as if he is going on tour.
Hey Baxter, tour on out to the GTA Gene Curtis Memorial Fun Shoot/Airgun Show. Would love to see you there!!!
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!

How is this event coming along? I have a pig hunt the weekend before so probably can't go 2 days. But a good option for me is to fly into Santa Inez from San Diego and rent a car and drive up. Any San Diego people want to split fuel and car rental?
I have a Hatsan Carnivore 30 cal. Tuned by Baxtor. I still have lots of questions. I am hitting 50 yard squirrels in my yard. But the groups I am getting are 5 inch at best with a super solid bench rest. I would love to get sub MOA at 50 yard. I have local squirrels and coyote in need of lead.
My plane is a Bonanza A36. Total weight full fuel 700 lbs. So 3 guys total plus 100 lbs

Craig--- That will be the perfect location to see what's going on with your Carnivore. If the best group you're getting is 5", there is something definitely out of kilter.
Pellets clipping the baffles maybe? I had the same gun, until just recently and it would do MOA or 1" groups at 100 yards.

I'd would like to make it. Looks like the plane is busy so will have to drive it. Google says 4 hours 13 minutes. May be a last minute decision because of pig hunt.
I am not sure why I am getting flyers with this gun after the tune by Baxter. My bench rest is super solid and I have a Hawke Sidewinder 8-32x50 scope. JSB 44.75 gr pellets.
I practice a lot and shoot an AR15 223 out to 300 yards also a Sako 30-06 out to 200 yards. I will be doing a lot of squirrel hunting on the ranch between pig hunts. The AR 15 really blows them up.
So I am not a novice. But the pellet gun thing has me scratching my head. I have a cheap break barrel gammo 177 that I shot 40 squirrels in my yard last year. I found the right ammo and could hit them at 25 yards. Now the squirrels are farther out because of fear and death. 50 to 100 yards behind my property. I bought the Hatsan after watching all the YouTube videos. I didn't want to spend 3k on a Daystate.
So I need the Hatsan to be consistent. I've got maybe 10 at 50 yards. I'd like to start going out to 100 yards. My longest squirrel shot is 75 yards but it took 6 shots. But the squirrel was patient with me and kindly waited for me to give it a pellet. My range finder is the new Sig Sauer 2400. Super accurate and has a ballistics program in it for holdovers.

If there's someone who can tell you what the problem is and get it right, it would be Baxter. Sure hope you can make it! My Carnivore isn't liking me too much either, and I don't know why. Plan on ironing it out soon, though, that rifle allowed me to confirm a 142 yard kill on a ground squirrel. 2 shots. A one mil correction and he dropped like a stone. It's a sub 1/2" gone at 50 when I'm doing my part. A little under an 1 1/2 was the best I could get at 100 yards on a no wind day at a permission.

Hello All - a quick update and some new info...
A call to Southern California Airgunners (and surrounding areas if you're up to it!), the 2nd Annual Baxter Walton Meet and Greet is taking place last weekend of this month, May 26th, 27th and 28th in the Los Padres National Forest at the Figueroa Campgrounds.
This is an overnight camping trip if you choose or a day trip if you'd like; whatever works. A chance to meet fellow shooters, barbeque and walk and stalk the pests and other varmints okay'd to collect. As of November, 2016, you no longer need an adventure pass to stay and use the Los Padres forest from this campground base. It is now operated by a separate company; vehicles/spots are $20 with a $10 additional vehicle charge per campsite. Campsites are on a first come, first serve basis - you may have to share if it gets too busy or if you'd like to save money.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions; I'm hoping we get a few people out there to show off, shoot and talk about what we love.
I'm excited for a weekend of walking, talking and stalking. Look forward to barbequing, too.
FYI - Nothing is being provided - whatever you'd like to sleep in, eat or drink you gotta bring!
Hope to see you there!

If I could get 1/2 and 1 1/2 groups at 50 and 100 I would be happy. I have over 500 rounds through it and have hit a fair amount of squirrels this year. Protecting my tomatoes and cucumbers. Last year I was over run. The squirrels will take a whole cucumber and run off with it. They hang from the oranges to pull them off. Got 50 last year. I really need the 100 yard plus capability.
I have been filling from scuba tanks and they are below 3000 psi so that may be part of the problem. I cleaned the barrel with goo gone and used dry patches to thoroughly remove it. The first two shots were flyers and then got better. I would like to get some full fills and test it some more. Maybe chrony it.
Hopefully I can make it up. Just have to figure best time to avoid traffic. The LA basin is always a mess. Especially, Fridays and I have to go through it for pig hunt this Friday morning.
Got 2 yesterday at 75 yards on a rock. One came up to check on bro and got the other one. Missed three others due to wind and longer shot.
Hope to meet you.

Good shooting, Tex. Sorry about your squirrel problem and glad you have a tool to deal with it!
One thing to note, when you clean your barrel and are getting clean patches, the next 10-30 rounds you put through the gun will re lead the gun in for that pellet. You may have fliers for a short time until the barrel is "prepped" for that pellet. You should see an noticeable improvement in the accuracy if a dirty barrel was the problem, but you will have to re-dirty it with the pellet of your choice to relead the barrel.
Good luck and hope to see you there. I will be giving folks my cell number as soon as my new phone is in. The last one took a &^^&. Feel free to contact me with questions, etc.
If you have google maps, it will direct you around the traffic hot spots on your journey (hope that helps!).

*************UPDATE******************
The Meet and Greet has been postponed until the last weekend in June. The memorial day weekend was not a wise choice by me and may account for some of the lack of response. So we're going to reschedule the event until the last weekend of June. Same bat place, same bat channel (Figueroa Campgrounds, Los Padres National Forest). Hope you can make it!
