I guess while I was not looking, H&N changed their Wad cutters, maybe in name only. There used to be the pistol and rifle WC's. For me the rifle always had the edge. I don't shoot allot of them so don't replace the often. Wanted to replace and now I find the H&N Sport 8.18 gr. Without going to the higher priced Match pellets the Sport is about all there is in the H&N... The reviews on PA do seem to speak well of this 'new' pellet.. I just wonder if I missed something??

I wonder how far out wadcutters continue to group well. It seems like, with a flat surface; they'd nail sparrows like a sledge hammer.

I have read that at short range they are good for that. I would say out to 30 yards. I generally shoot 20 yard target and they group well there. I don't have to many sparrows and other pests like that so don't shoot them.

Birds up in a tree, wadcutters and my LP 8. They drop like a stone. :D
Great for body shots.

Yea that was my thoughts. I did some tests yesterday with wadcutters at 30 yards in my 177. They grouped a touche over an inch but they sounded much louder that domed when hitting the target so Id think it would be like a 45-70 in powder burners; great for closer up with a good more amount of energy transfer

I always liked the H&N match finale pellets in my P1 when I had it. Not cheap though.
-
I've had success with various wadcutters out to 35 yards. Haven't tried them past that.

With my springers inside 60 feet or so, the H&N Sports knocks the snot out of pests. At that short distance, not much difference in accuracy vs. the high $$ wadcutters. Kinda like a flying frying pan ;D

I have been shooting the H&N Match Rifle out of my HW30s and Beeman R7. I'm impressed with the accuracy even out to 50-60 yards.
With the scoped Beeman R7, on a calm day, I can consistently hit a soup can at 50 yards. That was an improvement from this time last year. I've tuned both rifles and have got to know both of them really well.
Anyway, from my notes of last year, I show a group size of 1/2 inch at 25 yards, 2 inches at 45 yards and 4 inches at 65 yards. Like I said, that was last year. Even though I haven't shot them on paper to measure the group sizes, I suspect there is an improvement as I've vorteked the rifles and adjusted the trigger pull to about 12 ounces.
My HW30s has iron sights and I shoot it a lot at 7 yards inside the house. Without changing the sights the HW30s is dead on at 40 yards. At that distance to about 50 yards I can hit a soup can about 90% of the time.
The price of the H&N Sport pellets is very tempting. So I was wondering, how much of a reduction in accuracy could I expect? Does anyone have experience with both the Sport and Match Rifle pellets? If so, do you notice much difference between those pellets out of the same rifle?

I'll have to try the H&N's. The .22 RWS Meisterkugelns work really well in my Mac-1 2240 & both my 342s as well. I'm shooting them @ 25-30yds with groups of around 1/2"-3/4". Those wadcutters do have some serious smack down. I like em! ;D
