Title: I hate to say it
Post by: makarov76 on April 24, 2017, 03:12:04 AM
I bought a hatsan 95 awhile back for a project just because it is .25cal I'm not gonna waste much time
Talking about it. This is the worst airgun I have ever owned & I know how to shoot
& tune. Now I'm gonna break it down & use everything for parts that is useful to me.
If anyone wants a comp tube, cock arm, the stock or maybe a small part let me know.
I'm keeping the barrel because I lapped it & know it will shoot on something better.

That's too bad. I have a 95, in .22, and it's a very nice gun. What seems to actually be the problem?

Vortex, or spring powered?

Mine is a vortex converted to crosman ram.

+1 although mine is a .25. First rifle I bought getting back into air guns and always been a great shooter. Only problem I ever had with mine was my fault, not Hatsan's. I tried adding air to the gas ram and blew the seals in the ram. It's now a springer and actually shoots a little faster than when it was a Vortex.

It's always a bummer when you get a bad gun.
I've heard it said before, and it really seems to be true with Hatsan.   Buying one is a &^^& shoot.  Some are good and some aren't, and you never know until you get it in your hands.  I have been extremely fortunate.
Every one I have purchased has performed above and beyond my expectations.  Including the Model 95/.25.    Mine was good out of the box, but I did a complete tune on it anyway and that has turned into one of my favorite guns.   Smooth, hard hitting and crazy accurate.   I must just live right or something. ;)

Same for me..I have a dozen Hatsan and Hatsan built rifles and every one of them has been great out of the box with nothing more than giving the barrel a good cleaning.

I've been extremely lucky and have always figured my day will come though.

I'm running 1:1, good to bad, on Hatsans so far.  My first, a Torpedo 100x, had a bad barrel.  It was on sale and I only paid $134 for it.  Hatasan's customer service was excellent and the replacement rifle (same model except Vortex instead of steel spring) is wonderful.

I wouldn't be afraid to buy more Hatsans based on that experience.  With solid customer service backing them up, all you really have at risk is a little inconvenience.  And, judging by the Hatsan fans here on GTA, the majority of the rifles shipped are very good, especially for the price.

I have a Webley Valuemax .20 on the way that I think is manufactured by Hatsan.  I have my fingers crossed that it will be a good one!  And once again, I got it for a great sale price: $99.  If I have to return it for some reason, or tweak it a little to get it performing to my expectations, the price makes up for the trouble.  :D

I've had horrible luck with new air rifles from various makers.  An Air Arms and a Diana needed repair, and a Hatsan and a Weihrauch needed to be replaced.  I'm hoping my luck swings the other way and my new Valuemax is a peach!

Tight groups,
Bob

I have also had bad luck with several manufacturers, Hatsan being one of them. My Edge .22 was just "ok," and I sold it after a rebuild, lube tune, and Welsh Willie trigger (though I would likely buy it back if i could...strange). My first 85, bought from Field Supply, was a total piece of garbage. Bad barrel, dove tail cut diagonally across the air tube, cracked stock, etc. Hatsan replaced it with a better one, but I'm not exactly enamored with it. desmobob: I just got my Webley Valuemax in .20, and with the exception of my Diana 460 magnum, it is the only new springer I've purchased that doesn't fill me with the need to strip it down and rebuild it. I pulled it from the box, cleaned the barrel, and just shoot it...and love it! I hope you enjoy yours as much.

I actually got my Webley ValueMax with the green stock and instantly did the trigger screw mod, cleaned the barrel and transferred it to the Hatsan 1000s Stryker stock. Then I took the Stryker guts that had poor lockup and would kick the barrel when shot and chopped about 10" off of it and put that in the green Webley stock. I de tuned it a bit and did some trigger work and it has transformed into my grab and go gun. So balanced and easy to shoot open sights and hits like a mule. As for the Webley.... why don't they offer more break barrels in .20? It has the speed of a .177 and the accuracy and punch downrange of a .22. I am going to go back into it and smooth the shot cycle out some. Probably do Mike Mellick's heavy tar and shrink wrap on the spring guide and maybe a delrin top hat. As far as accuracy... it's right on.

I'm happy to hear that!

I still have a mod 99. Was not much good when I first got it but cutting 3 inches of the barrel and some other alterations made it a very good rifle.
That makes me wonder if the new QE series have a short barrel and a long plastic shroud to give cocking leverage. I know the AirArms Pro sport does. Cardew says 10 inches of barrel is enough or optimum.
The QE series is not available down here.

Just took a little leade tapering, and a recrown. Had to break the gun in, as well. it didn't start to group well, until I put half a tin , or so , through it. ( Did you notice that the gun was a refurb? It has an " R " scratched into the breech block, on the left side ). Oh, yeah, and the rear sight was loose ;D.

I really like my Webley VMX , but it took me awhile to figure out how to shoot it. It does NOT like an artillery hold !! I hold it like I am shooting a high powered rifle. It took awhile to break in too, & now it is smoother.
Have you tried to hold your Model 95 that way ??

My friend has a Model 95 Vortex QE , & holding it firmly, it shoots fine, too !

1.Very poor manufacturing & machining.
2.Rough compression tube.
3.Seal no good.
4.Dove-tail not straight.
5.Bad barrel or backwards(pellets tight @breech fall out of muzzle).
6.Teribble spring.
7.teribble trigger.
8.Plastic end plug(holding spring & trigger in place)
9.I can go on.

Out of the box it would barely hit a baseball @ 25yds, After I addressed all these issues it is very
capable of nickel & quarter size groups @ 50yds.
But now I need another new seal & to make a piston liner, this rifle can be somewhat tempermental.
I bought two hatsans (my first one & my last one).
I'm gonna stick with me HW's & RWS over hatsan its like comparing chocolate german cake to dog terdz.
Like moriarty said on Kelly's heroes (its a piece of junk).

Hmmmm.... I have another Hatsan 1000s Stryker that I picked up from a pawn shop. I did all my home tune stuff to it and it's almost as good as any springer I own. That one is ear marked to Shadow as soon as I get my butt in gear and send him my Mrod stock for the SynBad paint scheme. I'm sure Bro Ed will make it even better than it is. I would expect to see it next to a dead critter in a future posting in her hunting gate.

All real issues, no doubt.  On the other hand, people who love to tinker can pick up some of these rifles dirt cheap, then have fun repairing/improving/upgrading (not that I'm one of them).  And for some, buying one of these inexpensive rifles might be more like buying a lottery ticket... "Hey! You never know!"    :D

I think that's more along my line of thought when I ordered the $99 Valuemax.  I might get lucky and have a great shooter, or I may have to do some tinkering, or I may have to do a lot of tinkering, or I may have to do some repairing.... etc.

Bob

Don't blame ya for preferring the German gals over the Turks. I own some of each, but isn't the comparison sorta like saying "my $13K Kia is junk compared to my $90K Porsche" ?

I've only had a few minor issues with the many Hatsans I've owned and they were all addressed satisfactorily by Hatsan USA. All in all, I think the Hatsans are a pretty good value and a notch above the Chinese stuff I've handled.
