Title: opinion about what's going on with a scope
Post by: renowntwo on April 17, 2017, 04:57:45 PM
Well the scope in question is a Center POINT 4x16x40, it's not a new scope but it has not been abused either.. I noticed the other day while shooting that my zero had changed but I also cleaned the barrel of the AR so throught that was the the problem so I re-zero and did get a second thought. Well yesterday I had the day to shoot and again the same thing So I re-zero again this time remains zeroed until I adjust tthe power from 10 to 16 and thought to my self what the heck. I never had this to happen before and don't know if it me or the scope. I know that wind play with a zero AR but not like this. So my question is the scope gone bad?

Has the scope or base moved?

It is not unheard of for variable scopes to change POI when adjusting the power, especially lower end models.  Shoot a string adjusting the power from low to high and back and see what it does.  You may find it works best to leave on one power setting.

Almost the same as Cliff.

Sometimes scopes become not holding zero when you change the power.  So, just in case, I choose a power in the middle of the way and let it 'fixed', no matter the distance.

A kind of paying my peace of my mind to practice the shooter skills.

There are three models of the CP 4-16x40 that I'm aware of. Which model do you have (picture would be nice)?  The "TAG" version with removable turret caps and IR knob on the eyepiece a few members have posted issues with regard to poi shift. I have three of the earliest models (attached photo) all used, all on medium/heavy springers and no issues thus far.

Benjihunter no the scope or rings have not been moved.
C_m_shooter and mpbby what would be a problem if I was always shooting at fixed distance while hunting but sometime I need less or more mag to get a well place shoot.
Artie the center POINT is the one that you proved a photo off.
It just start this or maybe I just know noticed it
Do anyone know center POINT warranty policy?

Thanks everyone for your advice. I've weighed my options and I've decided not to replace the Center POINT at this time but just move it to a Springer and let it stay at 10 power because must of my shooting with them is between 20 and 40 yards with is good enough.
Now it's time to save for a good old Hawk 4x16.
Thanks again

Yes it good but I just don't have the time to send it off right now. I will later when it goes completely out.
