Title: shooting different pellets out of marmot militia barrell
Post by: makoda on April 15, 2017, 12:54:32 PM
I got a marmot militia barrel for a .22 marauder and it is awesome shooting the jsb 18 gr.  my question is that I ended up trying a bunch of different pellets with the stock barrel and am wondering if it would cause any problems to the barrel to shoot the other brands of pellets out of it other than just needing cleaned more often?  Don't want to mess up the accuracy it has with the jsb pellets or ruin the barrel.

I have a JG HF .22 cal Mrod barrel on my Prod, it loves the lubed 18g JSB's and Polymags.
Just lube up all of your pellets now before shooting. I haven't had any issues with accuracy so far.
As far as ruining your barrel by shooting pellets thru it I don't believe that can happen, now when cleaning the barrel I could see messing up the rifling using a metal brush. There are some good barrel cleaning tips on GTA.

I know that the .22 cal MM barrel is very tight (~0.213"?), optimized for the JSB Exact series of pellets.... I don't think you would damage it using other brands, but it might require more frequent cleaning.... Let us know how the accuracy compares with other brands, and how they load....

Yup, with a TIGHT bore and even tighter CHOKE .... they foul very easily when exceedingly large or hard pellets get shot threw them.

It is of my HO that you stay with AA or JSB in these barrels & Oil lube the pellets too as recommended !

Has anyone try the JSB 25.4g older and redesigned, JSB 34g and H&N Pilerdriver?

I never tried anything but jsb pellets.  I have tried the redesigned 25.4 and 34 gr out to 40 yds.  Both shot as well as the 18.1 which is all pellets touching.  I did turn the gun up to 41 fpe while shooting them. Not sure how they would do at a different fpe level.

Forgot to add those were lubed, but especially with the 34 gr. they were fouling the barrel back up a lot quicker than 18.1 pellets.  You would for sure need to clean the barrel more often to maintain accuracy.

I tried the H&N barracuda extremes in my .22 MMHF barrel,it wasnt horrible but not as accurate as the JSB 18's.It launches the JSB 16's just as well as the 18's.

I got a lil carried away the last time a cleaned and lubed the JSB's got to much FP-10 on them and I think im oil fouling my barrel. The barrel just wont shoot as consistent now.Looking at the pellets in the tin you can kinda see the oil on them and my fingers get very oily when loading.

Before I over oiled the pellets I couldnt see oil on the pellets, but my fingers would have just a lil bit of oil film on them after loading, THIS was just right, shot great very consistent shooting.

So its time for a rifle break down and cleaning of everything! and rewash my pellets and be more careful lubing this time and all will be well again im sure.

Mine liked most pellets put through it but AA/JSB are King. The Synrod recently got has a pretty good barrel capable of a hair over MOA accuracy consistently but being spoiled with one long ago I received one for it last Saturday :) still isn't on the gun but I will be trying monsters through it

I'm waiting for one of the new ART valves, and going to test some JSB ultrashocks at higher power through my MMHF barrel. Probably test with and without the HuMa regulator.

I will be interested in your new MMHF barrel results and especially with the 25.4gr.  I have never tried them nor the 34gr.  Matt (makoda) says they lead foul the barrel quicker than the 18.13s I shoot which makes sense to me, but for hunting that may be ok as I don't usually shoot a lot then.

I was testing JSB monster ultrashock in my JKHAN ( by using JKHAN/NxWerk barrel and also LW barrel ) . They probably started spiraling approximately at 40-50 yards  because the groups have opened 3 times at this distance.

Y want to test lubing pellets too.  May I use silicon oil for lubing and how much ?

Wasn't someone on here using PTFE dry film lube with very good success?

WAR (Jim) recommends a wet lube, but didn't explain why. I just stick with FP-10 and have excellent results doing so.  Scott (Motorhead) has another wet lube formula he likes to use which includes full synthetic 2-cycle oil and a naphtha mixture.  I don't know about dry lubes, but may be ok?
