Title: Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph
Post by: Spickus on April 07, 2017, 04:21:07 PM
I purchased a Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph from Amazon for about $76. I couldn't be happier. I'm finally able to tune my Synrod and chrony several different pellets. The chrony came with a storage bag, 15 foot remote cable and sunshades. There is a free app for Iphone and Android that allows you to plug your phone into the chronograph and record shot strings. Unfortunately the standard cable doesn't work with my Galaxy S7 but Caldwell will send a different cable free of charge if you email or call them. The chronograph works great and the supplied cable works with my Samsung tablet. So yesterday I shot hundreds of pellets across it tuning my Marauder for the first time. After I got it tuned up with a 10# hammer spring. I measured speeds with pellets I had around; JSB Kings 893 fps/45 fpe,  H&N Grizzly 793 fps/43.1 fpe, 43 gr Eun Jin 716 fps/48.9 fpe, Benji domed 853 fps/ 45.2 fpe. I didn't realize that a chrony would tire your arms so much.

Cool.

I got the gamma master. Had it shipped to the folks house. It arrived a few days ago and they said it came in a pretty big box.

I haven't seen it yet. But plan or using it to track progress in tuning a few springers to start with.

I got my screwdrivers, little file, dremel and brake cylinder honer ready.

I'm sure a Marauder or something like it will eventually follow.

I figured out why the supplied cable didn't work with my Galaxy S7, lint. Because the S7 is waterproof it doesn't have the rubber plugs in the audio jack and picks up pocket lint. A few minutes with a toothpick and some canned air have it working as intended. Customer service sent me a different style cable very quickly free of charge before I found the lint. The new cable doesn't work.....

I picked up this chrony yesterday but haven't tried it yet. Does anyone know where you can get a power adapter for it? I googled it and checked the company website but can't even find the specs for it.

Do you mean to replace the 9V battery?

That's pretty cool, I guess, if you use it constantly.   How long does the battery usually last?

I don't have any idea how long the 9v lasts.  I've used mine a couple times for a few hours at a time and on the same battery.  I don't leave it installed.  I put it back in my battery drawer.

Thanks! Is that the same voltage/amps as the one that comes stock with the Caldwell model that includes the light kit and tripod? I was looking for an adapter that plugs right in to the unit, not just hook to the battery leads. The one linked looks like it  would plug right in, but not sure if it's the same power ratings as the stock power adapter.

Oh I see what you may be referring to now.  The premium kit comes with a power cord and a remote battery pack. Both are for the lights only.   The chrono does not have a connection for external power.  There are 2 Connections on it. One for the cable to your phone or iPad and the other is USB that is for factory use only.

the other is USB that is for factory use only.

They sent me the USB cable for that other port when I emailed them about the chrony not working with my Galaxy S7. I never could get the new USB cable to work but I did figure out there was lint in my headphone jack..... Works great now, love it. I initially didn't care about the cell phone app but now I don't want to shoot without it.

That's it! Thank you, I guess I could have worded the question better.
It looks like the 9v battery converter you link is the best option then. A 2 pack of 9v costs $7.50 so it's probably worth it.

If I was going to use the 9v adapter I would make a notch in the battery door for the cable to get out.  I would put a knot in the cable and have the knot inside the compartment so if the cable is pulled it wouldn't pull the real wires out of the chrony. I think that adapter had a connector for the cable from the wall wart so taking apart would make it pack easier.

I would probably trip over the extra wire.

I'd just suffer the expense of batteries.

Yeah I had to pick out all kinds of crud out of my phone jack to get mine to connect also LOL.

I guess I got lucky with mine. It's works great with my old phone (Galaxy S3). I even shot two strings indoors with only a ceiling fan light kit on, while sitting on the couch.
