Title: 75% though a "Plinkster"/"Varminter" LDC rebuild
Post by: Ribbonstone on April 07, 2017, 12:26:20 AM
4th the way throught the conversion of the MrodAir Varminter/Plinker's  "LDC".

As issued, it's  a way-thiock LDC with a small hole (10MM) though the middle, with a plastic "soda straw) cut out set of baffles inside.

Plan was to cut ion it....trying for twie the internal volume and half the total weight.

OK..started out life with a volume of about 6.8CC's (not counting the soda-straw baffle system).  LDC wegiht of about 104grams (+3.7oz.), bored to fit a 10mm barrel shank.

Goal was to add 50% more internal LDC volume AND reduce the weight of the LDC by 50%.
Caught me 3/4ths of the way rhrough...basically in "gray primer paint" awaiting a couple of day's cureing...then light sanding...then a final finish coat of semi-gloss black.

LDC started out life (without the baffles) as about 6.8cc's of volume and 104grams of wegiht.

Removing the front sight, lathing the outside body from .865" to .72", back boring the front of the LDC from .4 to .56" for 2.9 inches, adding two lite-weight baffels to that larger back-bore.

So it ended up about 50% lighter, thinner, nd about 50% more internal volume.

Is there a real "gain"?  It's a LOT quieter than theissue LDC, so close to a TKO that it's beyond my "ear" to tell them apart.

Does it shoot differently?  Well, had to re-sight the  rifle in, which is likely dure to the shange in vibration due to the change in muzzle wegith.  Had to readjust the 4X scope, but the accruracy didn't change.

Basically, it's what the factory LDC "should-of-been"...snaller/lighter/quieter (at least on the co2 version...I'll give it a try it on the "Varmint" PCP tomorrow (Or will try it after the next coat of semi-gloss balck gets applied).

I've recently started printing baffles for my own LDC's. The design I'm putting together tomorrow for a QB build is going to have ~22cc of internal volume, if my calculations are correct.

It will be interesting to see how yours works on the PCP version. PCP guns move more air at a higher pressure, so their harder to quiet down in my experience.

HAve a good one for the PCP version....might be able to make that one better, but it's certainly acceptable now.

The small one is kind of an experiment in volume...don't need a lot of size for a low powered (8.4foot pound) co2, but I've found some internals work better than others.
