I've included photos of three different models of the CP 4-16x40 AO scope. I have one of the older CP's, looks like the one in the vertical pic. Can someone in the know tell me a bit about the other two? I'm interested in the reticle and durability of the two horizontal models shown. Mine, though old is rock steady dependable and mildot. Thanks, Artie

Ive got the middle one. Its been on a Umarex fuel for a year and a half and it holds zero great. The battery housing did vibrate itself loose, but a bit of loctite has fixed that. The other issue is the objective lens was not set up correctly from the factory, so the scope doesnot properly focus at more distant ranges.

Isn't the middle one what Walmart currently sells? What type reticle is in it, TAG, mildot? Also, at what range in yards did focus/parallax degrade?

It is the one that Walmart sells. The reticle is mildot. It will focus to about 60 yards. I could probably fix that, but I don't make a habit of shooting that far with the fuel. Hopefully not all models are like that.

I have the middle one on a Discovery .22. It is flawless after two years of hunting use. I did use it at night several times and took an Armadillo. The lighted reticle did its stuff and the Armadillo hated that. The price when I bought it was in the $70 neighborhood. Worth it in my book.

Thanks fellas, what I wanted to know.

A little more advise on the CP 4-16x40 please.
I've past purchased three used 4-16x40's of the first generation scope (attached photo). All have performed flawlessly on medium to magnum springers. Presumably I purchased a fourth only to discover upon arrival that it's the TAG version with the IR knob on the ocular bell (eyepiece). The TAG has no windage or hold-under mildots and it does not have externally adjustable turrets. Only under cap, finger adjust only. Also, no zero-lock. Because of that , after consulting the seller I'm considering a return or negotiated price reduction.
My question is: will the TAG scope hold up to a robust springer like my 1st gen CP's?
