Title: air force condor ss problem
Post by: boonez40 on April 06, 2017, 04:38:49 PM
I have a friend that has a SS and when he shoots the rifle, it is quiet for a couple shoots, then gets really loud for a couple shoots then gets quiet again. An idea what could be wrong?

I have not been present nor have seen the rifle yet, but my guess is it may be going supersonic on the power curve maybe?

Those are pretty powerful.

I'd try extra heavy pellets.

Try reducing the hammer preload

Or heavier ammo.
Shoot 20 shots over a chronograph and look at your fps.
Is it loud when the feet per seconds are at its highest?

My at44 gets about 7 quieter shots at 850fps
Next 7 shots are louder and in the 910fps range
Rest shots are quiet and drop in the 800's again

If the feet per second is too high, use heavier ammo or reduce hammer preload

Sounds like the tophat grub screws are loose and it's adjusting itself.  I had the same problem one time.  A little blue Loctite on them will keep them from getting loose.  Make certain he doesn't tighten them down too hard as they will dent the inside of the tophat.  Gook luck and happy shooting.

sounds to "ME" that the gun is shooting way too hot.  check the top hat for tightness, try and "screw it in and out".  if it moves without some serious effort, its wrong.   Now, a ch ronograph would really tell you whats going on.
