Title: PCP newbie synrod .22
Post by: eezapz2101 on April 03, 2017, 12:37:30 AM
Hello to everyone
So I'm a rookie a newbie at pcp air rifles( the dark side)
I got myself a Benjamin marauder .22 cal synthetic stock
So I got me an eBay 70 dlls pump witch works great
The only thing it's that I didn't remember I didn't have high 11mm scope rings so I had to se what I had at hand I just couldn't wait till the rings arrive, so I installed an UTG droop compensating 11mm to piccatinny mount and a single  piccatinny scope mount rings with gave a a horrible POI ran out f adjustment on the scope.
So today after church and after family lunch my wifee was taking a nap so I went to the backyard and started shooting, testing my synrod
I wanted to do my first string but needed to fix POI and as I tried to run the chrony I ended under the shade so it did not read anything.
So decided to work on POI so after trying a couple of things I ended up shimming the scope in order to get adjustability from the scope. I was able to center POI bug with no more adjustment to one side.
So I shimmed and nothing, more shimming and too much changed the shims to the opposite direction and I was way out of the scope but I finally had adjustability so rushed the turrets and was able to recenter the POI
And then a pigeon landed on a light pole about 20 yards away and well to much of a temptation and took the shot and down it went like nothing.

So I shot, I centered, I gave in to temptation and pumped a lot aswell but I was happy
One thing though I've read that the .22 cal marauder has problems and issues so I've been very worried that I might find the same issues as other people that's why I have not been able to wait the get the correct setup for my scope.

So I shot bottle caps, little stuff and I found a lollipop stick what would it be 1/8 of an inch? Well at 20 yards chopped a piece and then another piece and another one, I found a date seed placed it righ next to the lollipop stick and bye bye.

So I'm happy
Now when I tried to do groups mmmm well I was getting 1 inch groups at 20 yards not happy but why when shooting the date seed and the lollipop stick I was able to hit them?

Sounds like you like reactive targets ? , See what new scope rings do for it , and keep us up to date.

I would remount the scope or try different rings. If the scope was new it should be centered. Look very closely at the point where the ring teeth (for lack of better word) fit into the 11mm groves. Both rings need to set down in there. I have had them jump out a little when tightening the other ring and the scope will shoot really high or really low depending on which rings jumps a little.
I wouldn't worry about the .22 accuracy. Once you get the scope business straight and find the right pellets you'll be in tall cotton.
my .22 really likes H&N field target trophy. The last tin of JSB 18's are like shoot gun shells. They spray.
