Title: Benjamin Bulldog barrel is cheaper than I thought
Post by: Rob M on March 31, 2017, 10:18:59 AM
part number R3571A003 is 120.49 ... I had to call crosman for other parts and was really curious because id previously guessed it was 180 or so being the most expensive part of the gun.Not bad for a custom big bore project.

I wonder if that is a Green Mountain barrel like the Mrod.

Given the low production, most likely someone else than crosman makes it.

The Bulldog is one of the PCP rifles I'm considering....one of the MANY I'm considering. So many desires-so few dollars.  :(

i actually think the bulldog sells more to the powder burner crowd.. When i read all the reviews, a lot dont speak like seasoned airgunners. ( we have our own lingo.. I think the bulldog was a huge success for crosman..

But if you compare it to 25 cal Mrod and 25 cal break-barrels, it must be a smaller number.  Crosman doesn't make any 25 cal barrels inhouse.  I think it is very unlikely they have invested in the tooling for 357 cal.  The bulldog price has been dropping over time, which is usually an indication of not selling well.   Regardless, seems like a good price for someone to tinker with.  :)

certainly no comparison to mrod 25 sales , but agreed, the barrel is surely outsourced.. To who is the question.. Im sure its green mountain... Also , as for production , id love to see some serial numbers of theyre sequential.. even if they sold 1000 rifles , thats 800k in revenue which aint bad.

For a few dollars more you can buy a TJ barrel which is a much better barrel with a better twist rate more suited for most airgun applications - just as an additional option.

I've been seriously thinking about getting the Bulldog too, if I do I'll get a mold for bullets for it without a doubt.

Rob, the last one I bought (April 2016) was $4.75 per inch plus about $12 for shipping. It arrived within a week and the bore was excellent... highly recommended. They are blanks, which may or may not be your preference.

The problem with replacing the Green Mountain barrel in the Bulldog is that it measures 11/16" for the first three inches, then tapers down to 5/8" over the next three inches.  I checked with TJ and he can't do that.  Trying to sleeve a 5/8" barrel would be difficult as the wall would be just 1/32" thick.  Regards, Tom

I have a bulldog.  I have written a little about it.   Still holding judgement on it; only about 200 rounds through it so far.  Keep in mind 200 rounds equates to filling it about 40 times with air.

Yes, tell me about it Bob, that gun is a work of art except for the twist as far as I am concerned.  Easy to modify, the way the barrel is sealed to the transfer port is just perfect.  Regards, Tom

The bulldog does have a lot of potential.   Out of the box mine would stack the JSB at 50 yards. But farther than that it was all over.  I then drilled out the valve and barrel port to .25 and turned in the hammer spring.   While I was at it I polished the barrel with JB bore paste.  Now with the Mr. Hollow point 120gr I get under 2 inch groups consistently at 100 yards.  I couldn't believe how well it did with that little bit of work.  So my friend did the exact same thing as well.   He can hit a 2 inch spinner almost every time at 125 yards.  It is a awesome gun for the price with a little work.

thats incredible , especially for a barrel that people claim has the wrong twist.

I'm very happy with the Green Mountain barrel on my Mrod, very accurate shooter.
