I get bored punching holes in paper and try to come up with more interesting targets. My favorite place to shop for them is the Dollar Stores. For example, Daisy Shatterblast targets get expensive at $9 per box. But Stouffers Ginger Snaps are $1 a bag and fit the Daisy holders perfectly. They are biodegradable, too, so if you get hungry on the range, you can eat what you kill. Crayons (24 ct), chalk (12 ct) and lollipops galore for a buck. I try to keep my disposable targets below $.05. But occasionally I find soda cans four for a dollar, and they make surprising explosions when shooters think they are only hitting cans filled with water. BTW, underneath these targets is a section of aluminum gutter to catch the pieces. Behind the targets is a heavy cloth that keeps targets and pellets/BBs on my side of the fence.
We have two cats so we have an endless supply of cans and lids. Wrap a bungee cord over a hanger and suspend the cans, lids and pop cans. When a breeze comes up, they become a challenging moving target.
For some reason, I have a hard time finding participants willing to let me shoot a cigarette out of their mouth (Only Kidding), but the model below is always ready and holds perfectly still for me. I use suckers and crayons 'cause everyone knows cigarettes will kill you.
My knock-down-target-tree is made up of scrap pieces of aluminum channeling or electric box covers hinged with whatever hinges I can find laying around. Pellets only.
I’ll have more to come, but please feel free to share your target ideas in this thread.

Easter is coming and the $ Store carries Peeps (Yuk!) - just sayin! They also carry things like aspirin for a buck
for about 100 to 150+? That should help sharpen your shooting skills. Also paint balls on golf tees, toy soldiers,
pigeons, ice cubes, animal crackers, balloons filled with water or flour, etc. Just some ideas.
-
Seems like every couple weeks or so someone starts one of these threads and my answer is always the same... paintballs. Walmart sells a box of 2000 for around $20.

You forgot to say the little green army men too, get 50 for $1.50, set email up between paintballs.

+1 on the paintballs. I drilled some holes in a 2X4 and insert golf tees. Then I put the paint balls on the golf tees. You can never get tired of shooting the paint balls.
Empty .22LR casings or any empty cartridge cases are great. You can never run out of these at any shooting range and it's a great way to recycle the brass.

Small cat food cans. Wine bottle corks. Plastic bottle caps. Pellet tins.
-
Lots of great ideas...can't believe I overlooked paintballs. Good suggestion. Keep 'em comin'! ;-)

I have been buying a lot of baby powder from the $1 store and filling everything with it. Makes a nice puff when hit. Bondo dust works really good too, For those that do paint and body work.
-
Well I've seen it all now. A market for bondo dust. Bag that stuff up, slap a label on it and put it on ebay.
-
Baby powder does work great in balloons....POOOOFF! ;D
-
That reminds me I need to get more Cheeze balls...

I got all kinds of junk I could shoot at.
But if I was to buy anything new, it would probably be rubber duckies or some other squeak toys for very long range(60+ yards) shooting
-
More good stuff to eat, er, I mean, shoot...cheese balls of course!
-
"Multi-purpose" ;)
-
My favs are cowbells and homemade spinner targets.

Also, these are paintball practice targets, and they hold up ok to pellets but fly all over. Wish I could find a heavier version.

+1 on wine corks. Colored ice cubes. Any fruit or veg that's gone bad (ie pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten about). Ever hit a rotten orange with a hollow point? ;D
-
NECCO Wafers (I eat them too fast)..
Animal crackers.
Buy a few thousand at COSTCO for a few dollars.
Cheese-its (they will attract the mice for live targets...).
But I like these cause when you buy them you buy too many.

At Harbor Freight they are about $3.00 for many hundred.
Put a screw in, tie them on a string and have at them...
Stay safe

Yeah, too bad they're not those big army ants. Then you could just use the food for bait!

Sour watermelon peep's are the only reason I celebrate Easter.

When we moved onto this property everything horded from the past 50+ years came with it. Some of you have read my posts and even seen pictures. This place would be a good candidate for an American Pickers episode. They wouldn't even have to stage it like they do. The things we find to shoot at are endless.... One of my favorites are shot loads from a Hilti gun. Basically .22 blanks. There are several sink cut outs from Corian countertops. Drill a series of holes in them and load the blanks. Set out to 35 - 45 yds and enjoy. We just know how to have a good time..
