I finally built a spring compressor and took my Diana 34 Classic TO6 .22 apart to do a debur, hone, lube, seal and new GRT34 spring. I noticed the new spring/guide assembly is shorter than my old spring. The old spring measures 11 5/16 from the one end of the spring to the other and the new one measures 10 3/4 from the seat end of the piston guide to the other end of the spring with both springs relaxed. From what I've read, unless the spring comes set when requested, the new spring is somewhat longer than the old one. Should I have gotten the GSX-OS instead?

na if its not set it'll set itself the first time you cock it and will be a little harder to install but no biggie

So is the new spring right if it's 9/16 of an inch shorter than the original? This seems like I'm going backwards if I install it. Ok, I counted spring coils just now and the old spring has 33 and the new one has 32 by my count.

Did you get just a spring or the entire kit from JM? My understanding was that he pre-sets the springs in his kits, but does not (unless you request / pay the $1 fee) for just the spring. Either way I would just install it. He may have made it a coil shorter to prevent it from being too long when compressed and not allowing the sear to catch.

Thanks Mark and Nathan, I was getting ready for bed and it dawned on me :o the piston guide added to the spring takes up about a coil thickness so that explains that one. So, first thing in the morning, since I don't work Fridays, will find me doing the rest of the work so I can try it out on some kind of four legged critter this weekend. And yes, I did get the spring kit along with the lube kit.

Well, so much for waiting until morning. I finished everything tonight and it definitely turned out great. The first six pellets dieseled enough to smell it but pretty much went away after that. It cuts holes at 30 ft, cocks smoother and cut way down on the recoil. Yeah, so far it's turned out to be what everyone has to say about tuning. Now let's see how the squirrel harvest goes in the morning.

Good luck on your morning hunt. Ain't these things a blast to play with? Now find another one to work on ;D
