Title: Removing rear sight on Hatsan 95
Post by: RBQChicken on March 12, 2017, 11:19:27 PM
I'm getting a Williams peep sight  https://www.midwayusa.com/product/581929/williams-5d-ag-aperature-rear-sight-rimfire-dovetail-grooved-receivers-aluminum-black (https://www.midwayusa.com/product/581929/williams-5d-ag-aperature-rear-sight-rimfire-dovetail-grooved-receivers-aluminum-black)  for my 95 and am wondering if there is only the one visible screw to remove the regular rear sight, or do you also need to unscrew the elevation knob to flip open the sight to find another screw?  I have a Crosman Vantage that has a rear sight that unhinges when you unscrew the elevation knob.

You may be thinking "why don't you just unscrew the elevation knob and find out?", but the sights are adjusted very nice right now and I don't want to risk screwing something up in case the peep sight doesn't work for some reason. Thanks!

Might be  dumb thought here, but you might get that peep, mount it and see if the rear sight is even in the way of it before you try taking it off. If it doesn't block the view, I'd leave it on there.
Just in case and based on the 95 parts rifle I bought from SpiralGroove having 2 holes where the rear sight used to be, there should be a 2nd screw under there.

I will leave the rear sight on until I try it, but I'm hoping it will be in the way, because if it's not, it will mean the peep sight is higher than I want it to be.  I plan on putting one on my 95 and one on my "Titan turned Vantage", but I only ordered one to begin with, to see how they work.  I figured it would probably work on at least one of the rifles.

Remove the one visible screw and then the allen screw used a set post when the sight is removed.

Yeah, I'd remove the elevation screw and 2nd (more foreward) screw and remove sight; replace them of flush fitting grub screws.
The gun then presents a much cleaner profile (IMO) ;).

No doubt!
I didn't know that existed. I may have to get one myself.
How did you decide between the "High"  70809 or "Low" 70810 version?

I have a williams peep sight on a RWS 48, I know it's not a Hatsan like you have.
But the peep sight works really well, I may add one to my own Hatsan 95.

I decided on the low one just from looking at the sights online, it looks like the low one will still have plenty of upward adjustment range, and I have two guns I want to put these on, the 95 and my Crosman vantage.  I only ordered the one so I can try it on both before ordering another.  I figure between the two guns I'll have a decent chance it will work on at least one.  When I get it and try it out I'll know which one to order for the second gun.
The darn thing is 3 days late getting here, and we've been having really great plinking weather these last few days.  It was mailed by Midway the same day I ordered it. The fault is with either UPS or the postal service. I'm thinking the postal service.  Following the tracking number, it was delivered to a postal facility just over 100 miles from here FIVE DAYS AGO, and it still hasn't arrived.
Tried to file a claim with UPS and their site was screwed up and wouldn't let me do it, so I contacted Midway and they looked into it and said they'd file a claim and if it doesn't show up by Sunday, let them know and they'd send another.  Problem with that is, they are out of stock again and won't have them until sometime in April. Grrrrrrrr................
