Title: Just got my Swarm in....
Post by: Dave19113 on March 08, 2017, 02:35:35 PM
Just had Fed Ex drop off my new Gamo Swarm in 22. I ordered a Hawke 2-7 AO just because I figured the scope that it comes with is budget.

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss275/dave19113/20170308_130835_zpszvzyklvc.jpg) (http://s583.photobucket.com/user/dave19113/media/20170308_130835_zpszvzyklvc.jpg.html)

After a quick scopw set up, lube and ran a snake up the bore I worked on zeroing scope.

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss275/dave19113/20170308_130838_zpszqmqkki9.jpg) (http://s583.photobucket.com/user/dave19113/media/20170308_130838_zpszqmqkki9.jpg.html)

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss275/dave19113/20170308_130859_zpsjvd5nyzl.jpg) (http://s583.photobucket.com/user/dave19113/media/20170308_130859_zpsjvd5nyzl.jpg.html)

I have to say, the gun is a blast to shoot. Magazine was a little stiff at first but loosened up after shooting. I tried a bunch of different pellets from 14g to 21.g and it fed them all without a problem.

I havnt messed with the trigger yet but even out of the box its not bad; not as smooth as my Hatsan but definitely not terrible.

Anyone buying this I would definitely invest in extra mags as soon as they become available because even with taking well aimed shots I was shooting much more per string because of the ease of reloading.

Looking forward to hearing more about your experience as you go forward on this.  Accuracy, etc.

;D ;D Better buy lots more Pellets cause even at 10 per magazine you can burn through a ton of pellets in very little time and extra mags just make it easier to eat a tin of pellets in one session

Most definetly. Ive only been shooting it in my make shift range in my basement so "accuracy" is kind of relative considering its stacking pellets into ragged holes at 13 yards.

When I take it out to the range Ill have a better grip on it. ;)

Yea, these guns are really gaining popularity fast.... Seems like all the places that had them in are quickly selling out. I dont currently have a 177, but if this one keeps up on the good output maybe a 177 is in my future... ;D

Paul, I ordered my .177 Swarm the first week of January and it wasn't suppose to be in stock till 3/31/17 but I git it February 24th. May is two month away. January was two month ago. Seems like yesterday to old people like me. But you're gonna' really like it.

Dave, did you remove the factory scope mount or did it come that way?

I removed the factory, or should I say never mounted it.... I have a shorter LOP so I hate craning my neck. I just run that base with Weaver Grand slam rings and it gets me closer.

Im sure the factory mount works fine it just gives me another half inch closer to my eye.

Someone needs to make about a 40 pellet extension for it.

That would be sweet.

Good hunting!

No, cant even see it and that is with a 2x7.... I have high rings on it but you can see from the one picture that it sits about half way up.... I think it was Rick Usler's vid that he says the scope doesn't pick up anything until after the attachment.

Title: Range time outside with the Swarm
Post by: Dave19113 on March 09, 2017, 12:23:29 PM
I was able to get out today to see what kind of groups the new Swarm would put out.... Here comes the excuse police but there was some seroius gusts this am so I did have to contend with them. I tried to shoot in between them but it didn't always work out so good.

All shooting was done at 25yds from a bench and both groups are 10 shots

Here is 1st grouping with Crosman Supreme HP 14.3 1.12 group

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss275/dave19113/20170309_104431_zps7r7la0ty.jpg) (http://s583.photobucket.com/user/dave19113/media/20170309_104431_zps7r7la0ty.jpg.html)

Next up was JSB 18.13 1.495 group

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss275/dave19113/20170309_104549_zpswlrxjnrp.jpg) (http://s583.photobucket.com/user/dave19113/media/20170309_104549_zpswlrxjnrp.jpg.html)

Even though it was gusting and I didnt always catch the lull in the wind but it seemed like I was getting vertical stringing. Im only at around the 200 pellet shot count so Im thinking that the gun still has time to settle from what I have been reading about break in time.

Im not unhappy really because its still a new gun and its definetly a blast to shoot. It is just not quite up to the shooting my Hatsan 95 was doing....

try cleaning up the trigger or go for a CDT trigger I am not sure which one will fit your rifle but the 4G made a world of difference to my Whisper fusion .177 it went from 1+ inches at 10 yards to a single ragged hole ~7mm edge to edge

Do you think that vertical stringing could be the result of the trigger? I just wasnt sure because the gun really isnt broken in yet.

As far a a trigger clean up do you mean doing a light polish on the connecting parts?

When cocking the gun, is it easy to tell that you have cycled the magazine? I've  got an older BSA Goldstar that I like but if you don't pull the lever past the cocking point it doesnt always cycle which has led to dry fires.

Yes a gentle polishing with 600, 800, 1600 grit wet dry paper on a piece of flat glass then some dry lube on the moving parts and contact surfaces. Every thing we as the shooter do affects the POI and springers are the hardest rifles to master but once you do the rest of the rifles out there will become that much easier to shoot accurately. Also there may still be a little dieseling happening which can cause significant POI shift shot to shot . That is where a Chrony becomes helpful .  ;D

Yes there is a positive click and you can also see the shot counter on the mag.

Dave without the Chrony there is no way to determine if the SD is tight shot to shot and a couple hundred fps could give vertical shift. Usually a bad trigger (heavy) will be causing lateral shifting and scatter gun pattern

I was just able to run some of the crosman 14.3 HP over my crony ( Its an older one so I cant incorporate it into shooting on target at my house but from what Im seeing its velocity deviation.

7 Shots
737
719
718
695
749
724
706

Im also seeing that this is new as of today because even at my indoor range of 13 yards Im getting the vertical stringing vs yesterday it was ragged holes. The horizontal shift was from the wind today so Im not too worries about that.

Im ony a little over 200 shots with gun, should I wait til the 500 pellet point and see if it levels out due to being new?

I saw that happen with my Diana 350 I had; it took right around 350 shot count before it settled but when it did it never changed.

I would not stress untill you have at least 500 pellets down range the other thing is make sure none of your stock screws have worked lose

Well as a plus after about another 200 pellets through it the groups shrunk back down to ragged 1 holes at 13 yards..... Ill be able to get out next week to the range to do some more 25 yard testing... :D

Yea, that was my way of thinking because the only bummer about the mag is that when you load the pellets in it, there is a spring that goes under tension. My initial thought when reading about the system was that the gun indexes the pellet, like on a pcp, but its the magazine that indexes the next pellet after the previous is loaded into the gun.

My idea was to just re load them after each shooting session to have them ready to go. Im afraid that those little sprigs wouldnt last too long doing that.
