Title: Anyone need ANY parts off a RWS 34p?
Post by: RWS-4-Me on May 05, 2011, 10:29:03 AM
I have a RWS 34p rifle that the barrel actually snapped off on.  I sent it to Umarex and they said that they won't be able to repair it under warranty(cause the barrel was broken off when it was "my" fault).  So now, I can either have them fix it all up and ship it back to me for $202.19, have them ship me the gun and a new barrel for $175.19, or just have them ship me the gun for $24.95.

Soooo, (Gene, David, ect.) Do any of you people out there need any parts off the RWS 34p? Cause if you do, you can send me a check for what you think it is worth(after some dickering through PM's), and I can have Umarex send the whole gun to you.

Anyone? Cause a brand new 34p from PA is $216.85........only $14.66 more than having them fix and ship me my gun.

Conor

not worthy they cant fix it. Didnt think a barrel and breah block would be much more than $50 or so.

Still amazed it snapped the barrel off.

Might pay to check with friends and see if anyone knows a friendly lawyer who will write to them on your behalf.  'Defective' is a nice legal term. 'Liability' is another one.

'dangerous design' might be one as well.

'breach of warranty' and such on their part might play into this one.

Both Umarex and the company you purchased it from should work to make things right here. It will pay them to do so for good will if nothing else.

Personal injury lawyers might find this interesting. A Department of Consumer Affairs on the State level may as well.

No rifle barrel should snap in two.

Check and see and maybe you will get things repaired or replaced by them or the company you bought it from.  BOTH have a duty to make you whole on this.

it was coner's little brothers fault sooooooo i don't think a law suit is right. We have enuff of these in America these days. this would just JACK up the prices of a future gun from RWS. Un-heat treaded steel barrel's and pretty brittle...its suprising but not out of the realm of possibility to have it snap like that. Umarex is a questionable place to try a return....from what i understand.

so back to the topic...is dave(furseeker) gonna fix it for you or is he buying it straight out?...EITHER WAY DAVE'S A GOOD GUY...Bart

Sorry Bart, but a rifle that has a barrel snap in two is defective from the start. Snapping in two while in hand is not a good thing and the kid is lucky he didn't slice off a hand or get hit in the face.

Can you say "defective design, materials and workmanship'?

He does not need to file suit, just have an attorney take a look at it and write the letter for him.

Just like the McDonalds hot coffee suit - I bet few on here have read it, just heard the news stories without the facts. McDonalds had years of complaints about the temperature as well as the flimsy lids. Their coffee was almost 30 degrees hotter than any of their competition and the had complaints and burns all that time. The multi-million dollar reward was the profit from coffee sales for one day from the McDonalds chain. It sounds crazy when you hear the dollar amount - but one day coffee sales? Once the facts are in things make more sense.

A rifle barrel snapping in two is a sure sign something was wrong with the rifle. Bent, I can possibly understand. Though how you could bend one just from cocking it without some inferior product is a mystery to me. The barrel is supposed to be hand cocked - isn't it designed and made from materials that won't bend? The kid did not use it as a lever to jack up his car, just cocked it and pulled the trigger. Maybe even pulled the trigger by mistake - something that can happen to anyone.

So get an appointment to see an attorney, get a letter written and do the next guy a favor in putting Umarex and Co on notice that something is wrong and they should make it right. That costs a lot less than wasting time denying liability.

The barrel looks good. I'd have someone machine the broken end and remaining piece in the block and repress the shortened barrel back in the block. Anyone with a lathe can do this for you. Ed, Gene or @@$$$&^( is taking in work again. Rich might even have some LW .20 blanks left. Worth the $50 someone would probably charge for machine work.

If you were hard pressed you could do it yourself even with hand tools at home. Slowly drill out the barrel stub. Or even use a dent puller or self tap bolt. Slightly heat block and see if you can yank it out. Of course you'd disassemble the rifle first. If no joy drill carefully.

Chop the barrel until you get a clean face. Ease the leading edges you can start it into the block. Drill a right sized hole in a 2x4 scrap and place over muzzle. Slowly tap it in noting progress by marking barrel with tape.

What do you have to lose?  Look at it like a $24 project to make basically a Pro Compact!

Let us know what you decide to do and if you don't have the desire I'll buy it from you for $50.

Diana barrels are put in at an angle. You will never get a barrel machined and installed cheaper than buying a new gun.

That is what Dave is going to do.

Thanks,

Well I think a new one is about $200 and my hourly rate is $150. Not sure if I could Get r Done in an hour so maybe you're right.  But I'd like to give it a try. It would be a labor of love! :-q

Good luck Conor. Dave's a good egg!

Holy &^^&. Warren is that you?  Letter carrier?  What the heck you butcher!  When did you start hating M34s?

Any M34 deserves better than to be unceremoniously chopped up for parts. This is just bad karma and I refuse to be party to such barbarism!  LOL
