I may free up $1500-$1800 to spend on the hobby. Was thinking a new carbon fiber road or mtb but battling the urge to splurge on another airgun.
Was thinking of upgrading my Shoebox but the darn thing just keeps humming along. Mind you it's like one of the first 200 chain drives and originally a 3000 psi unit. Sucker just keeps working with new burst disks and hardened pistons.
Nnot looking for springers as I have a &^^& ton of those. No need for another 10M rifle. Have all the pistols I want. So PCP rifle it is.
I have a cricket std in .22 and bullpupped my Mrod .25 since it was so accurate. Tacticalized a Prod. I converted a .177 Hammerli 850 to HPA. Was my field trial rifle along with a supped up Disco. But I messed with it and can't get it to hold air now.
So my thought was a .177 repeater with a ton of shots. A .25 with more shots and potentially better accuracy than the Mrod. Maybe a .30?
I'd like power and quiet and it doesn't have to be a bull pup although leaning that way.
Anything you would suggest today or is there something coming out I should wait for? Doesn't have to be in $1500-$1800 range. If there's something less like a Kral that's fine too. I just haven't been keeping up with current and future hot products.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd by a royale in .177.. I'd get it in .25 but for you .177.... that laminate stock is so sexy
-
The Mutant .25 is due soon. If it's anything like the .22, it will be worth waiting for

Do you already have a nice bike? CF is just for racers. I might consider taking a mountain bike vacay with the money instead...

Good to know! A quick de-rail, if you don't mind. What kind of airgunner are they good and bad for? I hear they're pretty maintenance-intensive, but maybe I don't shoot enough for it to matter.

You messed up the 850 or the Disco? First thing I'd do is fix whichever one of those is messed up.

How about a BSA R10 in .177 at the 12 FPE level? Or maybe a Brocock Bantam and regulate it to 12 FPE? Probably could get 300 shots per fill at that level.
Another thought, how about sell the .25 Mrod bullpup and the Disco to add to the pot and go all-in with a .25 Daystate Pulsar?
Lastly: spend it on a hunting trip, as it seems you've got a nice selection of guns.
Historically, guys with your level of gun collection seem to usually gravitate to big bore and big game hunting. How about a .45 cal. and a big game hunt this fall?

Man...what a horrible situation to be in! ;D
I see you're in my neck of the woods.
If it were me, I'd head over and see Jim at Precision airguns with check book in hand and fondle a few of the rifles on the wall till one spoke to me.
I'm not much of a thumbhole stock kind of guy, but man! He had a FX Royal in laminate I shouldered and it just felt right! 80 shots per fill he said. Would have never thought till I handled it.
Go touch some lumber if you can.

Come on Andy! don't make it hard on yah...this will complete your collection. ::) :o ;)

Bentong, you're still around? I remember you from the old GTA! Believe it or. It the 1077 was one of the first air rifles I bought when I got back into "BB" guns. Bought it from BBgunbob. Sucker swindled me :-). "dang" if it didn't need a two finger trigger pull. I nearly tore a ligament. Yeah let's HP it and make the trigger even heavier!

Get a Kral Puncher Breaker and a AirVenturi compressor and have moneys left over for Beer and Tacos LOl. All problems solved.

Hmm. Looked at them. 400 or 500? The 500 just looks so long. I have an AZ Rapid that reminds me of the Royale a bit. I'm a small guy at 5'7" so some honking long gun prob won't be my best bet. My AZ has the bull shroud and is about as long as I'd like to go. Plus I know it's tried and true but the Royale has been around for a while. Not sure if it gets me all hot and excited.

Jeremy,
Bikes were an earlier addiction. But my two primary rides are now 20 years old! Still ride better than most bikes today as they were high end (I was single so dropping almost $3000 each was possible!). I'm getting old and the running is taking its toll so thinking cycling more is in order this summer. If I bought a new bike it might force me to ride and not run.
Re: SB...mine is number 205. It was a 3000 psi unit but I changed out the burst disks so it's now 4500. I just pumped my tanks to 4700. It sat a year before I even unpacked it and in that time the cylinders fused to the block. I just have to rebuild seals in place because I can't pull the cylinders from the block. A bit of hassle but not bad, especially after upgrading to hardened pistons and poor mans auto lube felt. I have probably 50 hours on these Orings. I have two scba tanks so it gets a workout. New ones are faster but I'm running this one into the ground.
I just can't get the 850 valve to seal. I'll get to it some day or maybe see if Roald is still doing them.
-
Man, If I had $1800 right now, I would be ordering a 25cal WARP.
-
My post Delete.
Good day.
-
Why not get the Benjamin marauder ft .22 and a gauntlet.22 and 2 nice scopes.
-
1800...Go buy a Miata and do some autocross!
-
1800...Go buy a Miata and do some autocross!
Lol. Not sure I've ever seen a running Miata for $1800! But I already have a Grand Touring anyway. Suppose I have more airguns now than I need but they're much easier to store than another car!
-
RDB.. Id look at the new "evol" in .30 cal from AmericanAirArms! If you want quality and consistency "yea thats right lol" I hear Toms new rifle is getting 20 or 30 shots (cant remember if it was 20 or 30 sorry) with a 5 fps extreme spread and even got "6" 888 fps shots in a row on his first prototype rifle! Then another 10 shots that are within a 10 fps spread! I just ordered his slayer in .357 but my next gun will be the evol .30😎 Call him hes great to talk to!
-
Man, If I had $1800 right now, I would be ordering a 25cal WARP.
Got it in a flex.
Nice gun.
-
I've decided to up my budget limit to $2000.
Here's my leading contenders at this point...
Wait for FX Crown
WAR Flex or warp likely warp with carbon bottle
Huben K1
Kral and buy a new compressor.
Still open for other thoughts.
-
I know you said "No need for another 10M rifle".... but now at $2000 you're in Feinwerkbau 800 territory!
But then I like "Punchin Paper".... almost as much fun as spending someone else's money. ;)

If I was going to burn that kind of money on an air rifle right now I'd probably order me an American Air Arms .357 Slayer.

Let's go back to your original post, bumping the price to $2000. Have you figured out exactly what you want this next PCP for, cuz you're still all over the place. No one gun does everything you want without buying multiple barrels and dealing with sighting in etc. Maybe a better choice is buying a couple with different functions.

Peter, that's the point of the whole post. I know some of what I DONT want. Like most of us there's nothing I absolutely need. If I had an "exact need" I'd just buy it.
I do know I don't need any more springers, pistols, pumpers or 10m guns. I don't need anymore FT rifles either. May be open to a big bore but prob not. .30 prob as big as I'd go.
I don't have a semi auto, .30 and that new FX with interchangeable barrels sounds cool. Don't have a br rifle but not sure I'd get into that.
Just trying to see if anybody else's wish list might trigger something. In particular if there's something new coming out they've been eyeing. So to sum it up, my need isn't as precise as you may think.
-
Very good answer, Andrew. Maybe it is worth holding out for a spell to see what happens with the new semi-autos entering the market along with the new FX. An airbow could be a possibility, too.
Perhaps narrowing it down to bottle-fed versus tube-fed or perhaps semi- versus single-shot mag-fed.... Perhaps a PCP hand-cannon like the Rex pistol? Manny (Nomadic Pirate) appears to be happy with his. I know you said quiet, but with the money you have available, you could hush almost anything up with some custom work.
Though, at that dollar range, why not the full-auto SMG-22? They only run $550 on Amazon, and the remainder of the money will fill the void in your pellet stockpile the firing rate will create. Who needs pin-point accuracy when you're a one-man-hailstorm of pellets? :D

Seems I'm waiting also, + side is I'll have more money the more I wait.
Had thoughts on getting a daystate 303 with carbon bottle.
But seems end of month a new one is coming out and at $100 cheaper than soon to be old model.
And a few others that peak my interest.
May have a go at replacing my old truck. 1999 ford 3/4 with 7.3 power stroke.
Went from getting 20-22mpg to 10-14mpg.
Next truck will be 4x4.

At risk of sidetracking... any time there's a drop in mileage like that, likely be boost leaks, brakes dragging, or you've got a lot of winter blend fuel. Last diesel I owned, the only places I filled up were truckstops and a 7-11 a lot of medium-duty trucks refueled at.
Though I will add that given a choice between driving a vehicle in need of maintenance versus getting a new airgun, the maintenance always wins.

$2000 territory? Hmm
RAW HM1000X .30
WAR COBRA comes out end of this month
AAA EVOL
All American made and top notch!
-
All American made and top notch!
I am a true red blooded American, love my country and am PROUD to be part of it.
But sadly, that statement doesn't mean what it used to any more. :-[

I feel ya.
While I love my country and heritage both recent and ancient, the times are changing. We can buy airguns from Turkey, South Korea, Germany, Spain, or the UK and contribute to their economies as well as ours. Homegrown tuning industries is important. We help companies overseas grow and offer better products, and at the same time, so-called "American Ingenuity" means a tuner in the US can be sent one of these foreign airguns, tune and tweak it, and we end up happy and the tuner makes a little money. Is this a bad thing?

Yeah sadly not that I've heard of.

Now this is what I'm talking about. I haven't even heard of the WAR Cobra. Just looked it up and it sounds interesting for the same reason I liked the FX Crown. Never owned a WAR of FX so there's that going for them too.
I looked at the EVOL and outside it being made in USA and I'm sure of super high quality, not sure what is so exciting about it? Well the fact that it is .30 but then a Rainstorm in .30 with a reg installed might be pretty nice too if I was just scratching the .30 cal itch. Which is getting itchy.
So right now my list is:
Huben K1
FX Crown
WAR Cobra
Or maybe one of these two (or both) and save for a new compressor
Kral tuned
Maybe a .25 Career or Sumatra carbine. I miss my Career II 707 and love the thought of a short hunter with fast follow up options
-
I'd build my own carbine/short rifle.
Probably a custom stainless steel air tube cnc'd for a Prod breech and valve hogged and moderated, length to end flush with a shrouded and baffled Marauder 16" barrel. So about 4" short of stock baffled barrel.
Then I like a single stage trigger, so I'd want a 2300T grip handle
Some type of folding wire stock, or maybe collapsible ar stock.
Woodswalker grips and forearm.
And a Leupy 3-9x33AO scope, or maybe something with a little more magnification, but not a bigger objective for this sleek rifle. And the scope would be custom painted to match the woodswalker furniture.
Add one of those little Crosman 5 pound 4500psi tanks for the road.

I'm just going to get a different truck.
Maybe tomorrow.
I shouldn't have sidetracked with bringing up my truck.
Guess it's a waiting game to see what my next gun will be.

Do we get to pick your truck for you?

Plenty of fun cheap miatas....But yeah if I'm going PCP I would want a compressor and a CF bottle and a gun. So 2k to get in. If you get the compressor and bottle you have a lot of wiggle room to get something good to shoot.
-
Aren't cheap miatas like cheap tools? Yeah there's lots out there that have been ragged on by weekend racers that haven't a clue. I bought mine from a little old lady. Lol. Actually I stole it from some poor sucker who was getting married. It was late fall and I told him his soon to be wife was no way parking her car outside in the Michigan winter! But honest it was his fiancé that had his jewels in the vise not me. I was just helping a brother out! lol
Yeah, there's some thought to budgeting a new compressor but the ancient shoebox hasn't given that big sigh and crumpled to the ground yet. And yeah I have two CF bottles to fuel the addiction.
Now I hear that the Colibre Hummingbird may be coming back in semi auto. That's now on the list!

From what I've experienced they are high quality tools that can take the abuse. Then again mine is a 99 with 40k on the clock. But it's driven hard every day

Did you read my post i sent? Theres nothing like the evol out there. Have you ever seen 6 consecutive 888fps shots over a crony and getting almost 30 shots with a 5fps extreme spread?? Then another ten or so within a 10fps spread? If you know anything about AAA and the quality thats been put into the slayer line of guns theres no doubt the evol .30 and the evol tactical .30 is probably (in my somewhat knowledgable opinion) the best quality regulated .30 cal to date.. Real quality these days is hard to come by wich is heart breaking.. Espeacially when your paying the money for quality. There is good quality out there but mainly mass produced. Ive alway liked buying from the smaller buisness men.. I cant wait till i have the money for an evol!!!!

Oh. And good luck on finding what your looking for!

Got newer truck, sold old truck today.
08 Z71 ext cab in really good shape.
But Airgun funds are back down to 2k now.
I never buy new on trucks, being self employed I like to have paid for or easy to pay for rides.
Makes it easyer to buy toys!
Back up to 19mpg and gas burner now. Money saved on gas can buy pellets.

Wow that was decisively fast! Ok so you and me both $2k. What's on your mind? Semi auto keeps popping into my mind.

I'm more about wanting an amazing wood stock on my next gun.
I'm thinking 30cal......my Hatsan shoots really well but I want something drop dead gorgeous.
I like shooting the 30 cal vs 22,177cal. Bigger the pellet the less careful I have to be at handling them.
And you can still get a good amount of shots at 80fpe with carbon bottle.
Daystate 303
AAA if they come out with a wood stock.
Going to see what the wicked cobra turns out to be.
RAW is also on the list.
Don't think AA has a 510 in a 30 cal, but it's a nice looking gun too.
Think I'm going to let them perfect the semi autos before I try one.
And let a few more brands jump on that wagon.......may be worth waiting to see what comes.
