Title: MODEL 34 ACTION SHIFT
Post by: Labboy on May 04, 2011, 02:17:26 AM
Noted that the barrel/action on my model 34 shifts very slightly backwards and forwards. Tried tightening the side frame screws on each side of the rifle but there is still movement. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any suggestions as to how I might rectify this matter?

Check the screw at the trigger guard too. Mine loosens up all the time. Little loktite helps.

That should not happen if action fits in stock properly. Is this a new 34 or older one?

I purchased this rifle about 10 yrs ago. The side screws and trigger guard screws seem tight enough - I've "snugged them up" but did not want to force them. I wonder if the wood has shrunk over time? I live in the Pacific NorthWest so the air is generally quite moist.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried to tighten the side screws even more but there was still some movement and I was concerned re: stripping screws. I'll look into the kit and see if it does the trick.
